I am having a hard time trying to add a logo to a picture. I open the picture, then I open the logo as a layer and it pops into the center of the photo. Problem is, I don't want it positioned in the center, so how do I select it and move it around to where I want it? Even when the layer is highlighted I can't figure out which tool will let you grab it.
Long time gimp user, but for basic tasks only. Now I would like to get my hands dirty a little more. I'm trying to setup a workflow that involves CAD, Inkscape and GIMP. Basically I did some architectural drawing in CAD, used Inkscape to clean up and convert DXG into SVG, so that I can use paths into GIMP. I did a script that for every path creates a new transparent layer with a layer mask using the path, so I can add fills and textures quickly. Now to the problem: say I want to add a texture from another image, i paste the image into the appropriate layer, then I want to transform the texture a bit (scale, rotate and perspective). the result is that the layer mask is transformed, too. I tried to disable the mask during transform, but didn't work.
Is there a way to workaround this? maybe some layer mode instead of layer mask?
I'm creating a drawing with multiple layers, but I keep dragging the background layer by accident. I've tried selecting the layer I want to move before dragging with the move tool, but this doesn't stop it. I've tried selecting the chain in the layers toolbox, but this just locks the layers into one group which gets dragged off the edge of the canvas. Is there any way to render the background stationary?
I'm trying to learn Gimp so I can use the art I made with it in my games later on but as a formal Photoshop user I feel like that I have a hard learning curve.
I'm trying to move things on my layer without effecting the layer boundaries (just like the way move tool works in Photoshop).
I know that this is possible using selecting the part I want to move on my layer, then holding Ctrl+Alt and dragging with my mouse, then it creates a floating layer what I have to convert to layer in the layers panel.
I want to select part of an image with just one layer. Say I just flattened the image and have to move one part of. I select it with the rectangular select tool. It seems intuitive that I could then just move what I selected, but when I drag the selection, the selection itself moves without moving what is inside the selection.
If I then remember to click the move tool and try to move what's in the selection (seems to work sometimes, maybe when there's multiple layers?) the entire image moves.
The only way I can move part of the image over is if I make a selection and then cut it (ctrl X) then paste it.
How am I supposed to move part of the flattened image, is there a way I can set it to default to "When I select something, I can immediately drag that selected area around."
I have two photo's of the same cat, in one of them the eyes look a lot better, so I'm trying to select and move the eyes to the other photo. Should I extract the eye and move it?
I am trying to move my sig layers which are just a jpg into the correct position, I also have a gif image which is not visible as it is hidden behind the layers. When I move some layers it does not move it on all the other frames (the frames are there cos of the gif file so they each are seperate).
Does anyone know how I what options or what tool do i select to move the layers in all the keyframes to the position i want?
I'll try and get a screen capture if u dont understand
Is there a difference between selecting your layer and clicking Add Layer Mask Icon versus having that layer selected, hold down ctrl and select Add Layer Mask Icon?
Also regarding working in Lightroom, if I modify a jpeg, select another image from filmstrip to work on and then go back to the first image for more work, are those actions degrading image even though I never physically save and close.
I used to be able to select a layer (getting the Marching ants of a layer on a image) via the Layers palette (I think I used to press ctrl + mouse-click) but now, in Photoshop CS2, I can't get it to work.
We are just trying out Maya 2014 and seem to have found a little problem that we cannot seem to work around!
If we say have two object and we select one of them, if we then try to move that object along one axis, it moves a very small amount and then selects the other object, but neither move any more, if we unselect the second object and then try to move it again the same thing happens.
We are using a Wacom Tablet as the main pointing device and all three butttons are set right, and we have also tried a mouse and this does the same. We do have a 3Dconnexion Space Pilot Pro also connected but this has been disconnected to see if this caused the issue somehow but without it connected the issues is still aparent.
Works fine on 2013 no issues at all, but the problem just seems to effect the move tool in Maya 2014.
I have checked that soft selection is disabled and it is? maybe I have inadvertedly hit a shortcut sequence to switch something on or off, but cannot find anything else amiss.
Any way of selecting an individual bezier handle and moving it by increments using the arrow buttons on the keyboard, (in a similar way to moving an individual point)? At the moment, I have two handles on different adjacent points selected, and am able to move them incrementally using the direct selection tool and the arrow keys, but I don't know how they originally came to be selected (I discovered that they were accidentally), or how to transfer the selection to another handle. I'm using CS6.
Is there a way to move a layer mask from one adjustment layer to another adjustment layer (within the same file), without removing the mask from its original layer?Â
(I can move a mask to a different layer by clicking and dragging the thumbnail, but the mask then disappears from its layer of origin). I'm using Ps CS5 on Windows XP.
I have CS 2 at work and home...at work I can select multiple layers by holding down shift and clicking the mouse..and I can link them in the layer pallette but on CS2 at home I cannot do this..
Is there a setting I'm missing somewhere. If I have a psd file with 10 layers, sometimes I want to quickly move an element around but, regardless of what layer I'm working on, or which layer is selected, my "selection tool" will grab whatever layer is the top one, or the whole "group" is the layer is in one, instead. So, usually, I have to reorder my layers to make the adjustment and then reorder them again.
In <CS6, you could click down on the eye-icon in front of a layer, move out of the layer tab group, move up a couple of layers, and then go back in, to deselect that layer too. Â In CC, when you do this, it'll deselect all the layers in between as well. I'm sure this is working as intended, but it was a ridiculously useful "bug" (feature!) when it wasn't working this way. Â Use-case: to instantly switch between one set of layers and the other. I know there are other options to do this with, but there's just no real reason to "remove this feature" (correct this bug?) because you already *had* the option of deselecting everything you move over in the first place.
I'm used to photoshop on a PC, and on them ( at least the versions older than CS3 ) if you want to make a selection of something on a layer you just go cntrl click.
But on a mac I'm told you need to select that layer then go select all then use the magic wand tool, which probably won't be 100% accurate.
In photoshop seven when you clicked on a layer and pressed i think it was control.. it automatically selects the layer outline. For example if you rasterised some text, and then clicked in this way it will select the outline making it easy for you to put a stroke on it, or to put a gradient or whatever u wished but applying only to the relevant area on that layer not the full canvas space.
This was a simple yet so useful thing and for some reason it does not work in cs3 (also could not find it in cs2). Im sure this function must be there with a different method?
I know you can use those magic lasso things but its much less efficient, takes longer and less accurate than this way...
When I have a masked layer and try to drag-select other items on other layers outside of it, it still gets selected if the image area happens to be located within the selection range. Or in other words: why would anything outside of the masked area get selected at all, when the point of a mask in not just to hide what's outside, but also to 'deactivate' it,so that the masked area is all we are working with. This didn't happen before, may be those were older versions of photoshop.
i am using Acad 2005 for two years. since now i started to use acad 2010. i did find the difference in layer isolation in 2005 if you do layer isolation, only the particular layer visible. then can be select all of them in one window. without disturbing other layers. but in 2010 while i isolate a layer, other layers also visible in the backround. when i select the isolated layer in one window, also the backround layers also getting selected.
i am facing problem in selecting the isolated layer all objects in one window.how to do selection or how to work on that?
Consider this simple document with 2 layers and an adjustment layer: Â Note the eyedropper targets. They read as expected:Â
Now, observe what happens when I click my adjustment layer (this is a new Levels adjustment that has NOT YET BEEN TOUCHED - so there should be NO CHANGE)Â
It doesn't matter whether the adjustment layer or its layer mask are selected, the results are the same. Here are my eyedropper settings: Â Proof Colors is off. I can't think of any other setting to play with. This looks like a pretty huge bug to me, and it's not something I remember from earlier versions.
What i do is use the direct selection tool and click an anchor and then click the eyedropper tool on that anchor point What is happening is the the outline color is being selected. So i found out Illustrator CS6 you have to hold shift while clicking the eyedropper. I tried that and still can't get the color of the underneath layer, the fill color stays white? Here is pic:  As you can see in the navigator window, the shade of red is that of the outline and not the apple underneath the outline. I tried shift+eyedropper and white is the only color that get's sampled.Â
How can I select all objects in a layer and copy and paste the objects into a new document? We are having issues with the copy and paste method. Is this because it uses the operating systems clipboard?
Using it to design minecraft textures. The textures are quite small, each block being 32x32 pixels and arranged in a 512x512 pixel sheet. Basically, I'm making a lot of small icons. Now, what I want to do is select an area, and change just some colors within it - like changing all greys for green or all reds for blue. I cannot find how to do this, apart from using the Wand to select the parts by themselves and change - it is possible, but veeery time-consuming (due to low resolution, every pixel that goes wrong will be noticed).
