Jul 19, 2013I'm running Gimp 2.8.4 on Ubuntu 13.04 Linux (64-bit) and I'm trying touse the "Bevel and Emboss" layer effect on an image which I copied fromanother image. Here is what I've done:
1. Loaded image 'A' into Gimp
2. Selected a portion of it
3. Used "/Edit/Copy" to copy the selection
4. Used "/Edit/Paste As/New image" to create a new image from the selection
5. In the new window for the new image, "/FX-Foundry/Layer effects/Bevel and Emboss"
6. When the "Bevel and Emboss" window opens, I accept the defaults and click "Ok"
The filter starts to run and then stops with an error message. Here is the message I get:

Jun 29, 2011it is possible to remove a reflection (that is basically a duplicate of an already existing image, if the angle is good) from a photo. I have a feeling it might be possible, and involves layers and cloning, however I do not know how to get this done. Almost like a reverse-cloning tool. Sample picture provided.
Obviously a lot of factors are involved like glare and angle, but say you could see through the glass, and the reflection angle is a perfect 45 degrees or almost a exact duplicate of existing image, just flipped, is it possible to remove the reflection image and obtain more of the other side of the glass?

It is the highest to the top photo that appears to be Carlton from the fresh prince of Bel-air.
The website uses a blackish color for the background and when you roll over a comment it turns a bit brighter.
When I view the image source it shows the image being completely white with the facial lines shown.
I got very close to recreating the effect but to no success.

For the background image halfway down, there's a totem pole sort of "merged" in with the color. But it's not simply an overlay blend mode or opacity change. It has essentially seemed to adopt an entire palette based on the background color itself.
I think I recall a way to create this effect in Photoshop, but in GIMP I'm stuck. How would one go about making that "color overlay", given any regular picture and a colored background? I'm doing this for a website, by the way.

Jul 5, 2006I'm having a nightmare in creating a realistic reflection of the cut-out white car I have attached to this post - as if it was shot in a studio with a shiney floor. I have scoured the forums and tried distorting the picture but can't seem to get it right. I have attached another file showing an example of a disasterous attempt.
The third file I've attached is an example of what I am trying to achieve. I understand that the underside would have to be recreated to make it realistic, but that can just be black.
