View 1 RepliesAfter pasting a new object in order to create a new layer, in thelayers menu there should be Floating Selection ("pasted Layer") like Burnie wrote. Forme, I right-click the "pasted layer" and select "New Layer", and the pasted object showsup as a new layer. From there, I make sure I deselect everything (SELECT > NONE), andthen use the move tool (making sure the cursor is over the pasted object) to click onthe object in your new layer in order to move it.
You can move it first too though (then press ctrl+shift+N to turn itinto a regular layer). I find that quicker, but whatever floats yourboat. Layer. Whatever.
I want to stretch the content of a floating selection to fulfill a path completely. For example, in the image below, how to automatically scale/distort/stretch etc... all pixels inside yellow antline to make it fit to the circle path outside.

I don't know if what I am asking is allowed because I am trying to make something adult oriented...
I want to turn a dragon picture into an adult furry picture by adding a ***ina to it, I have selected the part from another photo but I want to adjust the color of the part to match the dragon's skin color..
pasting new layers happens so often it's getting a bit redundant to always move my cursor over to the Layers panel, right-click and select New Layer (just the way I have been doing it) to get around the Floating Selection behaviour.
I'm wondering if there is a keyboard shorcut, or if I can change the default behaviour to automatically paste it as a new layer and not as a floating selection, or if there is some other trick people here like using to save time.
As stated I'm using Mac OSX (ML) with GIMP 2.8.3.
I do realize this is probably a trivial matter for experienced users but I really cannot figure this one out by myself.
I dragged another GIMP image onto the main one, then tried to enlarge it (it worked) but the visible portion remains within the boundaries of the unscaled image..
I have been working on a large number of sketches. At this stage I am just using the path tool to make the outlines of my cartoons.
I have got fairly confident with the path tool now, however on my first 3 pictures my paths were a mess. The first 3 pictures I stroked the path at 10 pixels, I would like to reduce this to 6 pixels. I am not able to go back to the original paths so I guess I need to select lines from the completed pictures and and convert these to paths, then restroke.
I have been trying to select by colour (it is all black) but that gives me the outline of the black, ie, a double path. I have tried selecting the back ground and expanding it by 2 pixels, this worked but not in tight corners.
I need to create an outline map for another application. The world is demarcated into areas, separated by black lines. The map must only have black & white pixels.
Some questions about using GIMP for this.
1. Is there a tool I can use to make every non-white pixel black?
2. Is there a tool I can use to eliminate isolated pixels of the wrong color (that is for me a black pixel with all neighbors white or vice versa)?
3. Is there a tool I can use to make the black lines thinner? It is desirable in my application to have the lines be only 1 pixel wide
I have 2 layers and I want to mask one through the other. I've attached a png showing what I want. I tried to attach an .xcf file, but it won't do it, which seems strange for a gimp forum. Anyway, one layer is the text (black outline) and one layer is a colorful background. In the xcf, the background layer is entirely filled with the colorful stuff, but I want it to only show through the interior of the letters (as shown in the png).

when I use the shape tool and text tool I'm getting a red dotted outline instead of the usual black outline. If I draw a rectangle it's empty, instead of shaded in? How do I put things back to normal?
View 3 Replies View RelatedThis is something that I could do very easy with PS, just CTRL + click in the layer and the object get a selection around it. How I can create a selection for an "floating" object? Sometimes I need to remove some pixels around the object I cant find a way to select the contour of the object again.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a black-and-white outline drawing that I want to color in using the "Bucket Fill" tool. There are two things I'd like to do to make it easier:
1. Is there a way to prevent Bucket Fill from leaking through small gaps in the drawing? Usually what happens is, I fill in one region, and then suddenly a much larger region gets filled in. I then have to examine the borders of the region for a small opening, close the gap with black, and then try again. Is there a feature that lets me say e.g. "Don't fill through gaps less than 4 pixels wide"?
2. Once I'm done coloring, I want to remove the black outline to make a more realistic, less cartoony image. However, it's tedious to go and paint over every segment of the outline with the color of its adjoining regions. What I want to do is essentially: Replace every black pixel in the image with the color of the closest non-black pixel. Is there a feature that does this?
Also, if there are third-party plugins that do these things, that would work just as well.

How to create a black outline around a text? For instance, a black outline around each letter of a word or something?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI would like to make a thick black outline around the shape of an image. To illustrate, when you click the magic wand on a solid background Photoshop finds the shape of the object and separates it from the background. Where that animated dotted line is tracing the shape of the object I would simply like to make a black line. Is there a way to do this?

View 6 Replies View Relatedhow do I draw a transparent rectangle with a black outline?
In Fireworks, this is very easy. Just select the rectangle tool, set the fill color to transparent, and select black for the outline color.
How is this done in PS 7?
I have a greenscreen shot, which I keyed using the modular keyer inside action. The key looks good. Then I export the front (on black) and the matte. When I now grab the just rendered out files, and put them back into action, I get a black outline....
I tried to render out the front on white, but then I get a white outline.
I also tried dividing the clips before exporting, but I still get an outline.... what can I do?

i'm using phothsop and i'm trying to give an existing picture a border.
what i do:
ctrl-a
select->border->2px
edit->fill->forground colour(white)
the 2px white border appears ok, however, the border goes beyond the selected area (dotted lines) by about 1px. The extra, unwanted part of the border was a semi transparent white border.
I've noticed that in the past, there have been times where i've selected a part of the picture and used the brush tool to paint in that specific part, but i always ended up painting a bit beyond the selection outline with a semi-transparent colour
how do you create a square with a transparent fill (it has to go around part of a photograph)? I am using DP7. I can create the square with no fill, but how to get a black outline around it (to show that it's a square).
View 7 Replies View RelatedI am using Xara's Photo & Graphic Designer for the first time and slowly getting acclimated to the program after using Ulead's Photo Impact for 6 years.
Just one really basic question. I have three elements in my final design: two seperate lines of text surrounded by a black outline. To save this as a single graphic (.gif format), what do I need to do? With Ulead all I had to do was select all, right click and select merge as one, then simply save in whatever format I wanted to the destination of my choosing.
Is there a similar "merge as one" command in Xara or do I select each element in my graphic, then choose save from the file menu?
I'm experiencing this incredibly annoying behavior in PS over the past 10 days. Dragging with a selection tool (or shape tools) used apply a thin dotted outline only when the mouse was depressed—very useful for knowing what area would be selected. Now I don't see that outline until I release the mouse button (or stylus) at which point the outline persists (see attached screenshot). The behavior is sometimes corrected with a restart, other times not.

I have the colored logo in vector but I need a crisp clean vector black and white outline.
View 4 Replies View RelatedRight after one makes a selection, say by using the Rectangle SelectTool, is presented with handles that allow altering the selection.
If one then selects another tool without deselecting is being deprivedof these handles while the selection remains active thus rendering himunable to alter the selection in that fashion.
Thus forming my question: is there a way to make these handles to(re-)appear on a non-freshly created selection?
I know how to blend selection edges of a selection in Gimp 2.8.2, but if I have only one side of a selection that needs blending, what should I do?
Lets say that I have a grey box on a black background and only want to blend the left vertical edge into the background.
Every time I make the second selection in a picture with the lazo the first selection disappear. what can I do to fix it?

I can't find the option to do it.
This is my text tool options when I have it open. I can't find the "Create Path from Text" option.
I have successfully created curved text, however when I have my text completed and move my layer around it leaves the 'purple outline' in place after I am done. How do I get rid of this purple outline?
View 2 Replies View RelatedTotal buffoon when it comes to getting GIMP to do what I want to do. I'm just practicing with making maps, black lines on a white background, and I've run into some issues I'm wondering if I can get rectified.
1) For whatever reason, the line weight of everything has shifted throughout the file, ending with some lines lighter and grayer than others. Is there a way I can get GIMP to trace all the lines in a uniform black, with uniform thickness?
2) I have tried locking the white background, but often when I select and move my black lines, if I don't click in just the right spot it moves the white background instead, which is really, reeeaaaly aggravating. How Do I get that background to be completely untouchable?
3) In trying to colour the image, I've run into problems with their being a white outline between the colour and the black lines. I think I need to sharpen the image or somesuch? How can one correct this issue?
4) Is there anyway to convert the black dotted lines of the paths tools into straight black lines, in regards to an older file? If not, is there an easy way to trace them?
5) I find the scale too tends to make my image too jagged. I want to take a section of my map, move it too another file and enlarge it to do detail work - what's the best way to do this in order to have a clear image?
6) Any way to translate an image from a MErcator Projection ot a Winkell-Trippel projection, one that works on a Mac?
