View 1 RepliesHow do you delete saved image files from Gimp once you are finished with them ?
My 'Document History' is so cluttered with unwanted files they are now appearing on my Desktop ! I have used edit - clear ... but the files remain as a blank transparency & I cannot find a way to remove them entirely.
I 'open as layers' an image (a .bmp if that matters), use the rectangle-select tool to outline a portion of the image, then press Delete (or click Edit/Clear), expecting that my selection will be erased, but instead it deletes the entire picture.
I've been at this for an hour. "They" say that doing the same thing again and again and expecting a different result is evidence of insanity...
How to delete a brush I made ( Watermark.png) that I used the 'paste as' new brush command to install. I have tried deleting it from my Brushes dialogue without success, & it doesn't show up in my brushes folder ... so how do I delete it ? .
View 2 Replies View RelatedI can't find a way in Gimp 2.4 to delete all invisible layers, is there one?
When working with a slightly complex file I use to have multiple layers which I show, hide and duplicate as needed. After a while my layers dialog gets cluttered and I need to delete layers I don't need anymore, most of these layers are invisible and going one by one to delete takes much time, an option to remove all invisible layers would be great.
There's an option to delete invisible layers on "Image > Merge Visible Layers" but this, as the name says, merges all other layers.
I want to delete a layer in a banner. I am a novice with gimp and looked to a tutorial to find out how. It says:
Go to File > Dialogs > Choose Layers or just hit CTRL-L. This opens up the Layers Dialog (or window).
The problem is there is no dialogue option in file. I do not know what to do.

I created a new unit using “Edit” and selected “Units,” then clicked on “New” and entered the info and saved the info. However, I mistyped info on the unit which created 2 units with the same name. How do I delete the incorrect unit?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI'm working on a very small scale, and need to find a way to make an image which consists of 4 colors, randomly spread around the 16x16 pixels.
I have not been abel to get the desired affect with any of the noise filters, so I was thinking I could make 4 layers, one with each color, delete the parts I don't want and just merge them down.
Now, with such a small scale, I could do the work by hand, but I have to repeat the process at least a dozen times, and I want it to look truly random.
When I right click downloaded brushes the options Duplicate Brush and Delete brush are greyed out and when I click Edit Brush I can't change anything. That is a problem because from the more than two hundred brushes I have right now I only need/like about 20 or 30. Those options are available only in brushes I created myself, by the way.
View 11 Replies View RelatedI edited some photos today using GIMP 2.8.
I am now unable to delete the edited photos, rename the edited photos, or move the edited photos to another folder. Basically, they are stuck in their spot. I'm not even able to pull up the "Properties" selection from right-clicking the edited photo.
I tried to open them using IrfanView, but when I go to delete the photo using that program, it makes it not respond.
I can open the photo up in Paint, save it as a different format, and delete it - but the original edited photo is still there.
How can I move and delete edited photos? I've never ran into this problem in all the years I've been using GIMP.
I would like to modify a text on a picture for a friend. Let me explain : here is the picture I'd like to modify :
[URL]....
I'd like to delete the facebook thing and replace it. But I don't know how to do it. I thought I would select and delete but the result is terrible because the color is not uniform, take a look at this :
[URL]....
The top of the sheet is okay, the rest is not...
Second question. How to make a text looks "real".
I have thought : let's take a picture of a someone holding a blank paper and add a message.
[URL].....
It's not bad but it doesn't look as if I had stamped the message. So I was wondering is there any tool to do so ? Or to make the text fit the picture. As you can see, the quality is not perfect, the first thing coming in my mind is "pixels". It seems we have two different kind of "pixelisation" (I don't know if it's the correct term for what I want to say) : an "old" picture with a new text...I tried the pixel filter it's not working fine.
I want to delete the default brushes in Gimp, like the famous green pepper and others that I find not useful to me. I know how to do this but is there's a reason why the pre-installed brushes cannot be deleted with the brush editor?

I have followed this tutorial [URL] To delete the background which is white in this case. The area was selected with fuzzy tools, then transparency added. Deleted background. All worked well. Problem is, saving as a jpg will not include a white background, which I DO not want.
I want to import this image into Inkscape, and have the background on my business card to show up to the edge of the jpg image I have on the card.
So what can I save this image that had its background deleted into another format that does NOT add white as a background and imported into Inkscape?
Is it possible to delete/clear contents outside visible work path easy way?
Sometimes when you create stuff, move stuff, import and cut images something is left outside visible work path. For example, in Adobe Photoshop it could be easily deleted with select tool + delete. Even non visible leftovers that is outside work area.
I started using Gimp yesterday and sure some things are SO irritating after long use of other image editing softwares.. I just can not figure out how people get used to it (Gimp).
Long way would be to move layer contents so you could see those "leftovers" and then it allows you to select them and delete. Then move back image where it was previously. But even after deleting those lefovers why the hell GIMP would select layer size according to "what it was at first" not what's acual dimensions of non transparent area?
I want to delete a solid white background from an image and I have been following different procedures but none works for me.The last procedure I followed is the following[URL]...Deleting a simple background.
I have been following each and every step carefully but once I open the saved jpeg file, the image is still shown with its solid white background. The source file is a jpeg file. The destination file is also a jpeg file.My Adobe Photoshop version is CS6 13.0 on Windows XP SP3. What am I doing wrong here?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am working on this book cover in Illustrator, and I am having problems deleting the background of this one image (in ps). I use the magic wand, but it doesn't look smooth me.
I have this image of some rings on a white background I got from stockx or one of those sites. These rings need to sit on an image (which is a large monogram M). I am trying to make the background transparent, and my attempts....well, they are ok for the average eye, but for something going to print, it just is not good enough. I am still learning illustrator, so I am trying to delete this background using photoshop. I used the magic wand to delete the majority, and then tried to use the eraser to clean up. Still looks like garbage to me.
I became so frustrated I thought about about a diff approach from deleting the background. I would just create the "M" in one layer, dupl the layer, crop it, etc etc. Only prob is when I try, transferring back to Illustrator makes the image jagged. And trying to crop in Illustrator? Well that is like calculus to me.
Each are can be individually selected in AI. I can change colors, strokes add images pretty much anything except what i can do in ps. In ps i can have the background as a specific layer. Then select the areas of the jersey then invert and delete the remaining portion of the background from the background layer. I CANT FIGURE OUT HOW TO DO IT IN AI cs6. I have to do this in AI because there are certain images and backgrounds i need to image trace to blow up to size of jersey. I make it work by importing after editing as much as possible in PS.
View 13 Replies View RelatedI'm really new to Illustrator, and I'm trying to print an image that will have a CutContour swatch around it, with a bleed outside of the CutContour line. You'll see that I set up the bleed by creating an offset path outside of the CutContour path. However, I would like to delete the rest of the image outside of that, but I'm not sure how to do this. I don't want to print the entire block of the photograph, just the image inside the tracing, leaving the outside white. I thought I could select the offset path and make a Clipping Mask from that but it says it's "too complex" or doesn't do anything at all. I've attached an example since it will probably make more sense to have something to look at in addition to my explanation...

View 9 Replies View RelatedI know that I can delete anchor points but I was wondering if there is a shortcut to do it on a larger scale.
Can you automatically delete anchor points when a new image is placed on top - so that it 'replaces' the image, only on the parts obviously that you cover with the new one.
If I delete an image from my library it is not appearing in 'Trash'. I am pretty sure it used to, and this may be since the upgrade to LR4.1, but I am not sure. I am on an iMac with Lion.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have created virtual copies of an image in Lightroom 4 and I am wondering what will happen to these if I delete the folder containing the master image and its virual copies from the LR4 catalog? Will the virtual copies be automatically deleted? If so, is this reversible in any way? Will i recover these virual copies if I add the folder back into LR's catalog later on?
Also will Adobe Bridge be able to read these virtual copies in both before and even after the folder has been removed from LR4? Or is the 'virtual copy' functionality specific to LR and that the only way to preserve it is to keep the original image within LR and never delete it?
So I am making digital color prints at 24x30. the photography work is about color fields and gradients, so I need super high res files. I enclose a screenshot of the project. 'Transform-tools-crop' only cuts in straight lines so I wonder which device I should use which can cut out an odd bespoke shape? You can see in the uploaded image from the project how the image currently cannot fill the frame without covering it.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI have a PNG image with only one layer as a start point. It has a faded map on it.
I have a second PNG image with a hex grid on it. I do colour to Alpha to establish transparency on the hex grid for white filled hexes (others are not filled with white).
Now, I wish to overlay a portion of the first image with the faded map with the non-transparent part of the second image.
So I select by colour (for the hexes not filled with white) on the second image (the overlay) and I then paste to the first image (after creating a transparency layer and selecting it to receive the overlay).
I see the desired overlay section (minus any transparent stuff as expected), however it is centered over the map in the first image, not where I want it to be. It is a floating selection and must be anchored. So I select the anchor icon in the layer dialog and I think I anchor it into the transparency layer on the first image (that's what I'm trying to do anyway).
And then my problem:
I want to move the thing I just pasted in to the right place with respect to the underlying faded map. I attempt to use the move tool, but all I move is the background map (pretty much the opposite of what I want).
Nothing I do seems to let me reselect the pasted-in overlay so that I can move it.
Why I can't ever reposition the pasted in overlay? It should be in the transparency layer I created but even if I select all, I don't seem to be able to move anything other than the background image.
I'm running Gimp 2.8.4 on Ubuntu 13.04 Linux (64-bit) and I'm trying touse the "Bevel and Emboss" layer effect on an image which I copied fromanother image. Here is what I've done:
1. Loaded image 'A' into Gimp
2. Selected a portion of it
3. Used "/Edit/Copy" to copy the selection
4. Used "/Edit/Paste As/New image" to create a new image from the selection
5. In the new window for the new image, "/FX-Foundry/Layer effects/Bevel and Emboss"
6. When the "Bevel and Emboss" window opens, I accept the defaults and click "Ok"
The filter starts to run and then stops with an error message. Here is the message I get:
------------ START ------------------
