GIMP :: Graphing Embroidery Patterns
Jan 17, 2011
Given the poor support for straight stitch counted embroidery (aka Spanish Stitch, Holbein Stitch, Punto Scritto, double running stitch) in commercial targeted-purpose stitching chart creation programs, I came up with a GIMP based solution. I've posted a seven part tutorial on a way to do it. It's aimed at absolute beginners because most folk doing this type of stitching are not conversant with graphics program concepts or methods. Long time user, first time poster. I'm curious if there is any way to graph out a series of color swatches in Photoshop? The way you can create a bar graph from a series of columns in a spreadsheet software, for example. Reason I'm asking, is that lately I'm doing more and more fine tuning of skin colors on photo closeups, and using the color sample tool to measure HSL across skin surfaces.
I've used gradient mapping in some occasions to smooth out color tones in certain areas. Having some visual tools to graph out things like saturation or luminance across a series of sampled points would be very useful imo. Sometimes I do this already in a spreadsheet software, but that can get time consuming.

I have three large numbers
2,729,895
2,735,986
2,741,965
How can I graph these using Illustrator 3? When I enter them, I get this message Also, when I try to override the override the value axis numbers, it won't let me enter a number that high.
I need to do this soon and I just need a method that will work with such large numbers and maintain the accuracy of the data relationships.

I am using the newest version of Gimp. Everything is great, it runs smooth and not many crashes..But! I cant make brushes or Patterns. in the older versions all you had to do was select what you wanted as a brush/pattern name it, and it would appear
Now, I get this
Error: (<unknown> : 18850791) Procedure execution of file-gbr-save failed: Could not open 'C:Documents and SettingsNorseman.gimp-2.8/brushes/mybrush14.gbr' for writing: No such file or directory
Am I missing something? Do I need to reinstall Gimp?I havent loaded any new patterns or brushes, so I dont know why its not working?

I cannot seem to organize my patterns. I save patterns under specific group names, i.e. Leather Fabric (1), or Denim Fabric (1), but when I refresh my pattern window, those patterns may or may not be grouped together. When they are not grouped together they scatter all over the place, which is very frustrating. I have not figured out how to group categories of patterns, I guess...or even if it's possible.
Another thing I am curious about is the initial patterns supplied with the GIMP program. Can we delete those? I used to be able to black them out and save them that way, or drop a different pattern in and save that, but I don't seem to be able to do that with the newest version of GIMP.
With the newest version of GIMP, another issue I'm having is saving patterns. I can no longer go to SAVE AS....and save a pat file. I have to go to EXPORT. which seems weird to me.

Have to Graph some data that involves the population within an age group. The lowest number on the graph needs to be 3,700,000 and the highest 4,800,000. I plot the data BUT how to adjust the settings to get the lower number I need. Divisions should be "11" but
- Object; Graph; Type; Graph Options; Value Axis - but then I can not enter 3,700,000 as the minimum.

Is there a way to select a portion of an image, and create patterns/textures that fill the selection?
If yes, is there the option of using my own images as the pattern/texture to be used? And is there the option to fill the selection either randomly or pattern-like? 'Noise' is not what I'm looking for.

What I am trying to do is import a PDF that contains a graphic of radiation patterns from RF towers, along with all roads and other geographical data. Once imported, I want to remove all of the roads and unwanted data and keep the radiation pattern. The radiation pattern is in 1 color that dominates the image, and "covers" most of the other unwanted info, almost as a 50% transparency. I then want to export the radiation pattern, and use it in Google Earth. Additionally, where the radiation pattern is not, have it become completely transparent.

Just got my new laptop and X4 to run. Now i have a problem, i can´t install Embroidery effects? It needs CDGS 12 or X3
Why why why, doesn´t it install over X4? Is there anyway that i could install it? My previous version was CDGS 12 and Embroidery + KPT installed and they worked well.
X4 seems to be much better than 12 at first test...

I have received a new logo from our brand developers. The spec is
C - 0
M - 98
Y - 75
K - 22
or Pantone 1805
or R - 191
G - 49
B - 26
I get a different colour depending on which spec I use, and if I sample a digital document, a fourth variation on red. Am I just not understanding these colour specs? I want to be able to reproduce the logo on printed documents, and use it for embroidery on clothing. I also need to produce adobe pdf files and jpegs to email copy to advertisers.

there are different patterns all over this graphic. And on the bottom, there are the cubes, and they sort of dissapear towards the left of the image. Is this done using the selection tool to select exactly where the patterns would go?

The geological community has recently standardized fill patterns that we use for geologic maps and illustrations. The U.S. Geological Survey has put out .eps files that can be used to create a swatch library in Adobe Illustrator (see Section 37 at [URL]). find a way to import these .eps patterns so that I can use them to fill objects created in CorelDRAW.

I created a pattern of concrete block coursing that I want to apply to a picture of the side of a building. The pattern is clipped so that it will repeat appropriately when filled into a large area. The problem is that depending on where I fill in the canvas, the pattern never fills in with the same start point. I want it to always start at the bottom left corner of the pattern (which is the bottom left corner of a block). Is there a way to set the point that a pattern moves out from? Also, does the pattern radiate from its center point or one of the corners?
In Autocad there is a snapbase command that lets you choose the start point for a pattern. This is exactly what I'm looking for in photoshop.
