Having a problem in Gimp 2.6.11 on Windows 7 x64 system. You can watch the video, linked below, but the basics are: I do a selection, scale the selection, make a new layer out of the floating selection result. I try to run a RGB Noise filter on the new layer and no preview shows in the filter dialog or it doesn't show correctly. If I anchor the floating selection into the original layer, instead of making a new layer out of it, the preview shows correctly. Is this a bug... or?
Searched three fora: this, General, and <I forget>. I looked for a Developer thread thinking this might already be a requested feature, but did not find one.
When I have a filter window open, most often there is a "preview" window--of fixed size--which I can pan, but not so far not figure out how to zoom to see detail.
I wish I may I wish I might: - be able to resize the "preview" window - be able to zoom in to see the effects of the filter better
So, yesterday I was trying to halftone an image. Everything was working fine, but I couldn't figure out how to use it the way I wanted to. So I found a tutorial. I read it, figured out what I was doing wrong, went on my way. Everything seemed fine.
Then I went to use my newfound knowledge, and lo and behold, the Newsprint filter stopped working. No matter what I tried, the preview image looked just like the original. And when I tried applying the filter anyway, figuring maybe something was just up with the preview panel, nothing happened. The filter pauses to load when I change something, acting like it's working, but nothing happens. The closest thing I've been able to get was the image completely disappearing when I change a certain setting (switch to luminosity, in case you were wondering). I tried googling my problem, but all that gets me is tutorials and the how-to-use guide.
When I used to use the liquify filter, I was able to see each move/drag as I made it. Now it doesn't show any change until I click 'OK' and only then can I see the result of each 'drag'... So I am sort of having to guess, more or less, where the section I am altering/dragging will end up... Very difficult.
I am using CS6 Extended and am taking a class on photoshop. Â I am trying to apply the wave filter to some type, but not sure what all the options in the dialog box are for. I do see that there is something changing in the preview box, but the image is so incredibly tiny I can't really tell what is happening. I don't see any way to increase the size of the preview box.
The new filter gallery takes forever to preview. I assume this is because the preview area is so much bigger. I personally find it much more advantageous to preview a small portion of the image until I get the settings right, then run the filter on the entire image.
Is there a way to run the filter functions in "classic mode", or reduce the size of the preview area so I don't have to wait forever each time I try a new setting?
I'm using Photoshop CS5.5 and I've placed a layer with my watermark. I'm trying to apply a plastic wrap effect, or many different artistic effects. But I cannot preview what it will look like prior to carrying out the artistic filter. Â I think I may have to rasterize the layer or something like that. Basically I carry out the filter. nothing changes.Older versions you could see what was going to happen before you carried it out.
When I open Cs2 Illustrator up its already set to outline view. If I click preview or ctrl Y its goes to preview but only for a split second before going back. Even if I go to document setup It says that it's not in outline view. Is there any way I can permanently set it to preview mode?
Lighting Filter is not working. When you run the filter the circular ring/point does not appear to adjust the light. It is totally missing. You can adjust the settings but the filter never runs. After attempting to run the filter I tried to go back to my workspace. It would not reset to the default Essential workspace.
The other workspace were OK. I closed and reopened the application and my workspace was restored. I tried running my GPU settings in advanced normal and basic. None of the settings worked.Â
In my CS6 Photoshop I can access the filter-gallery but as soon I click on a filter to choose it close the window and I get the error message: the process coulnd't finish. I tried it with several files and and it's always the same message.
I use Photoshop CS4 every day all day, as of this morning my liquify filter has stopped working and I am pulling my hair out trying to figure out why. I have already checked the obvious; I am working on the correct layer and 'show image' is indeed checked. I have already trashed the preferences and restarted both Photoshop and the computer. I am attaching a screen shot below (just in case I am missing something). The tool itself is working (I can see the brush and move it), it is just not doing anything. Nothing has changed from yesterday, there are no new software updates to install, I just sat down to start work and it wasn't working.Â
The CS6 oil paint filter is not working. The error is: "The filter you were using encountered an unknown graphics processor error that caused an unexpected exit. Check the manufacturer's website for the latest software."  I have the latest graphics driver software. I have the latest update for CS6. I have followed various community support recommendations to no avail. In the Advanced Graphics Processor settings (preference, performance) only "Basic" is available and I can't select (grayed out) "Use Graphics Processor to Accelerate computation" and can't select "use OpenCL".  My System: Windows 7 (64 bit), HP Pavilion dv6-3250us Notebook with Intel(R) High-Definition Graphics Driver. Here is system information (from CS6):

how to make coloring pages from own photos for my son to color. It has worked fine. First I import my picture and create a duplicate layer. Then I go to Filter>Sketch>Photocopy to ajust detail and darkness...and all I have is a white screen...nothing to ajust. WHY is it not working...I have the same problem with some other filters too but not all of them.
I created a gradient and tried to save it for web, but the preview only showed me a dark orange color. That was the foreground color, but I don't know why that became the entire picture. Â Also, I saved it anyways, and when I opened the image using picasa photo viewer, the gradient showed up just as I wanted it to. However, when I placed it on a webpage, there was only a dark orange color. URL..... Â How do I 'resync' those settings? I'm completely new to photoshop so I have no clue how to do that.I also tried changing the foreground color to black, as he suggested. The preview still showed an orange color.
I've searched around for an answer to this, but a question for the same problem doesn't seem to have been asked anywhere that I've found, so I hope someone here might know.
I am running CS on Windows XP. I previously used the Liquify filter on a large picture with no problems. Now I want to do a new one, but the preview of Liquify won't work - the picture comes up, but I can't see the real-time changes. When I hit OK the changes show up on the picture, but since I couldn't see what I was doing, they're not what I want.
I have found where someone has had this problem, but it seems like they always had it and was never able to see the preview, which isn't the case here. I have tried updating my video driver, like someone advised in that case, but it did nothing. I made no changes to the computer's hardware since it last worked (May). I have also tried using a small file to see if it was the size of the file, but the preview didn't work then either.
I have an external drive where my file resides, with 74.5 GB free. 12.5 GB is free on my internal HD, which is where Photoshop is installed. 931 MB RAM. Since it worked before, I'm hoping it's something like clearing up more memory space on my HD.
when you create some text, highlight it, then go to the font chooser dropdown menu and use the arrows to scroll through the installed fonts, the highlighted text will change in place to the fonts you are selecting.
Is there some setting you can use to turn this on/off, because I have never seen this work once, and i'm REALLY aching for this type of functionality. So far this is the one thing about Photoshop CS that kills me is choosing from my many fonts... I always end up having to open flash, in which that feature does work for me- but it's not the same when you don't have all the rest of the design right there to be able to see the difference.
Last week I updated my mac to Lion and encountered a problem with lightroom 3. It wont let me preview the print in print mode now! before it did! now when i try and print, it just prints a white blank print?!  Luckily i used my macbook pro, the same problem happened in the lightroom too but it printed the image rather than blank printing  Any reason why i cant see the print preview any more?
In LR4 i didn't get any problem but with LR5 some functions linked to the slideshow turn to a "blank" screen.The problem appears when I try an impromptu slideshow in the library or a play, a preview in the slideshow section. Â I reset the default setting in LR, I download the last driver for my graphic card but without success. With LR5.2 RC this is the same. Â My O.S: Windows 7 - 64
my Wind Filter is not creating the "tracers" or "trails" that I am used to seeing.My goal is to create a motion effect on white text. The "tails" are not growing in length when I duplicate the filter over & over like it should.  Example: This is the text after applying the filter once.Here is an example after the 3rd time of applying the Wind Filter.  the streaks are remaining within the text. It's not creating the trailing streaks that I need.
I had the lighting effects filter working briefly on CS6 - it stopped. I had getting the driver changed, and it worked again for a couple of weeks. Then there was a problem with windows 7 on the startup - and suddenly something was changed within the computer and the filter no longer works.
I've been using the offset filter for years to create seamless patterns with predictable results - I choose "Wrap around" and when I enter the distance the parts of the image that go off one side show up on the opposite side.Now, with CS6, sometimes it works as expected and sometimes parts of the image go missing when (if) it shows up on the other side. I've discovered that when this happens if I go to Image - reveal all that often times those lost pixels are outside of the viewable canvas. However, sometimes reveal all doesn't show anything new and the pixels have just been lost.I know there are not extra pixels outside the canvas are before I run the filter so I don't understand how this is happening.
I have found is to select all and crop the image between every offset. Sometimes I'm offsetting 20-30 layers in a row (because you can't apply a filter to multiple layers at once, so annoying). Otherwise, if I'm not careful after I've offset everything I go to check the pattern and realize i lost parts of my image.
where the upshot of the post is that the filter isn't working because the the map wasn't saved with compatibility turned on.
The 2nd person to reply, Terri Foster, said "maybe the map is buried too deep in your file structure" - she is absoultely right.
I spent 2 days reinstalling Photoshop (CS2) and trying to get the effect I wanted without the displacement filter. My file was buried 8 folders deep and I tend to use square brackets in folder names, too. Once I'd saved the map to the desktop instead,
I tried to install the optional extract filter on CS4 Extended by dropping it into the photoshop filters folder. When I tried to open it a message comes up that says "Could not complete your request because it is not the right kind of document." When I restart photoshop it says the filter is not designed to run on windows or it contains an error.
where my hue/saturation filter just quits working. I use that filter religiously so it has to be fixed each time it occurs. I've only had the Adobe CS3 for 3 months and I've had to resolve this 3 times now. Each time this has happend I've had to uninstall the entire CS3 design package and do a complete reinstall which takes almost 4 hours because my download uses the Adobe server. My product download was purchased online so I do not have a disk but rather files that I downloaded from Adobe with product serial numbers. I've used Adobe for years, as far back as Adobe 5, and never had such a problem! I've checked in my preferences and have ample RAM available for the settings. I use Dell inspirion and have 2 GB of RAM total on my system.
