GIMP :: Filter Levels Of A Picture Depending On Its Color
Jan 27, 2014
I'm in the process of making a command map for the free video game Wolfenstein Enemy Territory.
The games allows to generate a TGA file called Tracemap, which is used by the game to detect which places are outside or inside, for precipitations and artillery. It is commonly used as a base to make command maps, such as:
Other examples:
[URL].......
To obtain a comparable result, I have decomposed the making in 4 steps (4 layers):
- The terrain (background);
- The buildings (in shade of grey);
- The roads (a tool drawing white lines bordered with black and doing the junctions automatically would be neat, if it ever exists...?);
- The "foldings" (that's the Reverso translation, I think it can be guessed from the pic).
So, I exported the terrain in a separated map, compiled it, generated a Tracemap, and I have it in GIMP now. I would like GIMP to detect and do some lines between the different levels like Paint Shop Pro seems to do:
[URL]........
This way, I can draw the height lines accurately, and then color (I already made the palette with required colors); Does this exist in GIMP? Tried few filters but never came close to something like in the Warchest forums.
If it isn't possible I will do it manually ^^'

I've just started organizing my photos by adding albums and keyword tags. I add the album to all the pictures and get a green album icon on the thumnail. Then for most of the images when I add a tag the album icon is gone and is replaced by a beige tag icon. But for some of the images, when I add the tag I get separate green album and blue tag icons. Why do i get different icon combinations depending on the image?

I want to make a basic color filter over my image that, for instance, filters out every color that isn't red. so everything that was red would show up as normal and everything that was blue or green would show up as black.
How do I do that in gimp?

I'm using Photoshop CS6 on a desktop running Windows 7 with AMD Radeon HD 6750 and I noticed that when I zoom at 66.7% or 33%, the pictures edges look "jagged"/blurry, etc. and the image only has a smooth rendering at 100%, 50%, 25%, etc.
Â
I wouldn't ask about this except, I have the same exact version of Photoshop on my laptop, running Windows 7 with Intel's HD 4000 built-in graphics, and this computer displays smooth rendering of images at any zoom level, no matter what. So why the difference? The settings in the Preferences > Performance section is identical on both computers.

To me, an easy and non-subjective way to make an image color-neutral is through Levels.
I leave the RGB channel untouched and use strictly the separate color channels (ctrl 1, 2 and 3), adjusting the black and the white sliders so that the blanco parts (non-information) on the edges of the histogram are excluded.
I was wondering if there exists a shortcut for this, since it is a verifyable action based on concrete readings. When scanning a large amount of images, it seems unnecessarily exhausting to repeat this action time and again.
The Auto Levels or Auto Colors commands don't work subtle enough, because they usually discard the outer parts of the histogram.

I don't remember this being the case before but now when I have several layers I can not go back down the list, highlight and make changes or paint more on the lower layers. Is this the norm or am I doing something amiss?

Okay so I'm trying to take the white background off of a picture using the select a color on white, but it takes out a lot or the fur and eyes(it's a picture of a cartoon cat) How can I remove the areas of can from the selection without removing the pieces of cat too.
It's creative commons, so I guess I can post screen shots...
The cat is from [URL]...
A general idea of the selected area
What happens when I take out the selected area
So how can I take the pieces of the cat out of the selected area so when I try to delete the background I don't get an invisible cat?

whenever [on any photo] i apply auto levels or auto contrast or auto color from the image>adjustments tab, the entire photo will completely white out as if i had added a new white layer over my active layer (which i am not doing). however, it only does this in 'auto' changes. so if i were to manually adjust my levels or my contrast or color, the 'white-out' effect wouldn't occur.
i really need this feature. i have already uninstalled/reinstalled photoshop cs2 and that didn't seem to fix the problem.

I'm trying to get the pressure levels for my tablet working right. I want it to increase hardness when I press harder, but instead hardness DECREASES. Is there a way to flip it around? The matrix just seems to be booleans, with only checkmarks or no checkmarks.
Actually, scratch that. Now the pressure levels aren't detecting AT ALL. I have the tablet enabled in Input Devices, and the pen is Pressure-Opacity but nothing changes based on pressure.
I tried this video but the fix did not work.

Gradient and color banding are very apparent and exaggerated until I zoom in to 66.6%. It even hangs for a split second as if it is solving a new render at a higher quality. This is getting frustrating as I've found myself manually trying to clean up issues that actually aren't there when I zoom in close enough. These issues are expecially obvious when working with skin using several degrunge techniques and dodge and burn on a softlight layer. It does not seem to matter what display I use.
Â
If I commit all adjustments to a new layer the problem goes away. I'm working on a Eurocom Panther 3 running Windows 7 64 Ultimate. I have a hex core Intel processor and 2 Nvidia 580m in SLI, though I am aware that is not used in Photoshop.

I entered the following key sequence: Adjustments Panel | Levels | Alt-Click Auto | Find Dark & Light Colors | Snap Neutral Midtones | Midtones After keying in this sequence and making adjustments to my photo, I inadvertently hit one too many OKs as I was exiting and PS changed my defaults. They now read: H: 55, S:0, B: 0, R: 128, G: 128 and B: 128. How can I reset these values to their default settings?

I take a lot of underwater pictures usually quite badly . I am looking for adjusting the color levels.
I am guessing I have to create layers to adjust them properly as just fiddling with the Red on the main image isn't really giving me great results.

Is there a relatively simple, automated tool in gimp to apply one picture's environment lighting properties to another picture?
So for example if i cut out an object from one picture that has pretty warm lighting environment, and put it in a cold light background it will look pretty out of place obviously, and this is what I would like to resolve.

What I want to do, is take the path tool, make a pattern around a picture (which is rectangle) placing it on a picture of a board like this...and then pull the picture horizontally, and vertically, to make it circular, to fit the perimeter of the board. If I understand it correctly, when you use the path tool...it allows you to make an image round (from rectangular) is that true?

I cannot get a color balance adjustment layer to come up. Every time I do photoshop creates a levels layer. Selecting levels makes a levels layer. All of the other adjustment layers seem to be working normally.
How do I fix this? I have a deadline and no time to be reinstalling photoshop.

make this filter on the picture? The left side pic is the normal one and the right side pic is the filtered one by the way, this filter is called "instant" if you have iphone with new iOS7 (you will find the filter in camera or while editing pic from photo)
filter makes pic a bit sharper, yellowish a bit with keeping the textures of the pic..i tried to play with levels and brightness but couldn't really get it..if you have iphone with iOS7 you might wanna take pic and try the effect to see how it changes the pic.

When I attempt to use a new grad filter or adjustment brush in LR3.6 the picture goes blank i.e. totally black. The history does not update and I can do no other edits until I Ctrl-Z or go to the grid pane or move to the next image. I am running on Windows 7 64 bit and I have re-installed, twice, (repaired) using the latest downloaded LR3.6 off the adobe site. I have done several integity checks which are successful and the problem occurs no matter what catalog I open, small or big. However, my LR 4 beta works perfectly!? This problem came out of the blue and the only software that I have installed on my machine recently was some Windows updates and Firetower which checks changes to my Startup processes.

Is there anyway to transform a 4-color picture into a 2-color one at reasonably good quality?
The problem I met is at the galley.I could, or migh, only be able to get a 2-color printer at reasonably good price.
The original design is 4-color. But the actual detail is not very important. They are book covers, which only need to protect the book.

I have a color picture which I took, of a red berry bush. I want to remove all the color except for the red from the berries. I know how to lasso the berries, but I can't remove the color from the bush/background and leave the red berries.
Note: I did this once a couple years ago, and can't remember how I did it..I have some memories, but probably remember just enough to make me dangerous. I have done some searches but obviously the results are numeorus and I haven't found what I am looking for yet.
I know the solution involves selecting the berries and then inversing it and then setting all 3 colors to 0 for the background.
What I can do is
1) lasso the berries
2) inverse
what I can't figure out
1) it seems like there was 1 step about layering which enabled me to get started, but I don't remember this, it does seem like I am missing something very basic when I try to do this
3) Where is the color scale, the only thing I can find is the grayscale option which switches the entire project to black and white.

I have a color picture, and I want to convert it to B&W, and then I want to add another color to it (for example – red). I don’t want to paint some areas in it, I want for example to keep all the red parts of the picture, or only part of the red parts.
It something like in the movie Schindler's List, in the B&W scene where you see a little girl with red coat.
