GIMP :: Can't Get 2.8.10 To Operate Correct After Building From Source

Nov 30, 2013

I have tried to upgrade my gimp2.8.2 (default in debian distrubuted version at the moment) to 2.8.10 since I read through release notes and realized I could be an even happier user with this version.During installation I found that I missed quite a few bits and pieces, but I installed them when required. (babl, gegle, glib2 e.g.).Eventually I reached the make install stage and it seemed to work ok. However when now opening gimp I can't open files and I lack quite a few filters possibly other menues missing I havn't walked into everything yet. It seems like a folders supposed to be created and refreshed in /.gimp2.8 was not.

I am on debian wheezy linux (7.2), xfce4 deskop.

GIMP :: Save Image As C Source?

Dec 4, 2012

I have two questions about saving an image as a C source file.

1) In what orientation is the image saved in the C source (row-by-row or column-by-column)?

2) Why does GIMP only export to C source but not import? And as a follow on, any program that will read in C source images and display them?

Just to make sure we are all on the same page about which format I am referring to, here is an excerpt from one of the images I exported as a C source file.

GIMP :: Make GIF Using WMV File As Source

Mar 3, 2012

I'm trying to make a .gif file using a .wmv file as the source. It needs to be small, about 2 mb or less.

When I first finished the .gif (about 150 frames), the file was much too large. I resized it, used the "optimize" feature, and made it grayscale, but it's still too big.

Now I want to try cutting frames to make the file size smaller. How do I cut every other frame in my .gif?

Alternatively, is there any way to choose the number of frames I want in "extract videorange" (for ex: I want only 10 frames from mark 3:00 to 3:30)?

GIMP :: Heal Tool - Set Source Image First

Oct 4, 2012

I am using Linux Mint 13 and gimp 2.8.2 and I keep getting an error message "set a source image first" when trying to heal a dust spot. I choose the tool, I select the area I want to use to replace the dust spot with ctrl click but when I release the ctrl button and click the area to fix I get the message "set a xource image first". Strangely after I release the ctrl a animated radar appears briefly on the screen. Do not ever recall seeing that in earlier versions of gimp. At any rate I can not do a simple heal.

GIMP :: Drop Shadow With Nearby Light Source

Nov 17, 2012

When you apply a drop shadow, the shadow is cast in the same direction from all parts of the object. E.g. the shadow is projected to the right and downwards from the object. In other words the light source is far away and it produces parallel rays of light.

Is there a way to cast a shadow where the light source is quite close to the object? For example imagine the light source was just above the object. Parts of the object on the left would have their shadow projecting to the left and down and parts of the object on the right would have a shadow projecting to the right and down.

GIMP :: Source Contains No Colors - Importing A Palette (2012)

Oct 11, 2012

Have an open image in gimp 2.8 on suse 12.2, I call the "import palette" function, I set 64 colors, step 32, check the "from all layers" etc etc, and in the preview I see the 64 color palette I'd like. Looks good.

BUT: underneath the preview it says "the selected source contains no colors."And continuing the palette is indeed empty.

GIMP :: Create A Correct Resolution

Aug 18, 2011

I am trying to create a 30" 24" poster that contains (12) 3" x 4" photos. I have resized all of the photos from 2.5MB, but the completed poster is only 850kb. I do not think that if I were to print this out to 30" x 24" that it would be 'poster quality'.

when I have the file open I noticed that at the bottom left it has (53.8MB) in parenthesis. create the correct resolution that I need to make sure this poster looks like an actual poster?

GIMP :: How To Correct Orientation Of Image

Jan 9, 2012

What is the proper way, using gimp, to correct the orientation of animage?

For example, I just took a shot with one of my cameras where I was holding the camera in a vertical (portrait) orientation. But when I transfer the .JPG to my PeeCee and view it with gimp (or ImageMagick)it is laying over on its sid, in landscape orientation.

To fix this, should I be using Tools->Transform Tools->Rotate or is there a better way? (Actually, I did try doing it that way using gimp, and the results were distinctly unacceptable... some parts of the image got cropped out, and some new transparent parts were added.)

I did try googling around for gimp and"orientation" and/or gimp and "rotate" but didn't find anything enlightening. I also checked the Gimp FAQ and again came up empty.

GIMP :: Can't Get Image To Print At Correct Size

Mar 8, 2012

I'm a very new user to GIMP but have been using paint shop pro for quite some time - I still use version 7

Here's the situation: I received a pdf that I want to print so I imported it into gimp. It's 8.5x11 at 100dpi & two pages. So I imported it as two images (not layers) at same resolution settings. White out the unnecessary images go to print and then to printer preferences. 300 dpi is the smallest resolution on my printer so I also select 8.5x11 paper & 'sale to fit.' The resulting image is so large that approx only the top-left quarter of the doc prints.

OK, so in GIMP I go to 'Print Size' change the image resolution to 300 pixels: same result, exactly
Print size isn't it, lets try 'Scale Image' at 300 pixels. Same result again...

I tried both settings above with 'scale to fit' (printer) on & off with absolutely no changes to the printed image... very strange. Is gimp overriding my printer settings? If so how do I correct this?

Interestingly, when I re-sized the images in gimp (or thats what I thought I was doing with 'print size' & 'scale image') the size of the view-able image on the desktop in the application window did not change... the size of the window stayed the same, the zoom percentage did not change & most importantly the image did not change.

Finally, I checked if the original image prints correctly in Adobe Reader: No problem and it prints fine. Unfortunately, while I have what I need, I'm not one to give up that easily and want to know if the issue is the printer, gimp.

Why I can't get the image to print in GIMP at the correct size?

GIMP :: Correct Feathering By Subtracting White

Sep 7, 2012

I have some round PNG icons where the pixels are either fully opaque or fully transparent. They look fine on a white background but are no use on a dark background.

E.g. see the orange icon attached. Ideally, the edge of the round icon would be semi-transparent orange so that it would merge nicely into either a light or dark background.

So, is there any tool in the GIMP that can correct the feathering? I.e. subtract the white from the pixels to leave a semi-transparent orange.

I.e. convert...
pure-white -> fully-transparent
light-orange -> semi-transparent fully saturated orange
fully saturated orange -> leave unchanged

GIMP :: Correct Free Selection After Finishing A Photo?

However the original cut picture has the borders of the selected area brightening but doesn't show any longer the points that I could correct.

Any way of forcing it to edit, allowing me to change slightly the borders?

GIMP :: Resizing Picture (19x7 Inches) With Correct Proportion

Feb 22, 2013

I have a picture that is approximate 5 inches, by 10 inches. I want to blow the picture up to approx. 19x7 inches. But my question is, after I blow it up, and place it on a new image template, how will I know the "final" product will be proportioned correctly (with exact correct proportions as original pic) when I print it out.

Does GIMP "automatically" proportion the image correctly, or is there some mathematical equation/something to figure out the correct equation.

AutoCAD LT :: Get DDATTE To Operate On Double Click?

I followed the Help guide and got all the way until it told me to "drag the command you want to add the double click action in the Customizations In <file name> pane", but I cannot find the DDATTE command in the Command List.

Photoshop :: Can't Get Brush Effects To Only Operate Over Content On Specified Layer

Aug 1, 2013

As you can see from this screenshot I am trying to use the brush tool to complete the shadow of my planet however if I select the planet the brush tool I'm using does not cover up the atmospheric glow. I am not sure how to select the glow effect independantly of the planet. If I do not have the planet selected then the shadow is applied to all the layers including the starfield layer even though it is completely locked which is very annoying in of itself. So I guess my question is how do I get the shadow to be applied to the planet and its atmosphere but not the background stars. I am using a 3600px brush with 0 hardness for the shadow. Check the installation of the support files and try again.nil" I checked thru my programs and there is NO geom3d.lsp, exe or arx file. There is in Program files/autocad2013 folder a geom3d.CRX file.  I attempted to copy the original geom3d.ARX file from release 12 into the same folder, went to place the folder in the working directory via the options menu but the directory wouldnt load from the Support File Search Path to the Working Support File Search Path so I placed it in the Program files/autocad2013/support directory and loaded this directoryinto both the Support File and WOrking Support directory which loaded but the following response showed "Command: _align Initializing... ARXLOAD failed" How can I get this command to work as it was fine in Autocad 2012 before I upgraded.

Illustrator :: Get Vertical Move To Operate In Conventional Direction?

Jan 19, 2014

Ever since CS5, the move function has operated normally in the horizontal direction but backwards in the vertical direction. In other words, entering a positive value moves objects down, entering a negative value moves them up.

At first I thought this was a bug, but it has continued in CS6 and CC on every computer we have. Yes I'm getting used to it but it's opposite of every other software package we have or have ever had, including Illustrator up to CS5.

I can't find a user control to correct this. Is there a way to do it?
