CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X5 :: How To Continue Drawing On A Line
Feb 6, 2013
Say I've drawn a few curves on a layer with the bézier tool, and I want to go back to some that I did earlier and add to them. I'm trying to do this and it won't let me; it wants to start a new line.
I'm having problems updating.I downloaded the update, but when going to install, is still on the screen and the update does not continue the upgrade process.
I'm trying to get a clean line drawing from a bitmap. I've attached a cdr with a picture in it. I just want the picture to look free-hand drawn with simple lines. When I traced it, it makes jagged edges and seems to be too detailed no matter how I set the trace properties. I cannot draw free-hand myself at all, or I would just re-draw them.
As an exercise I'm trying to recreate the leaf image in the X5 guidebook ( pages 127 & 128). No problems until I came to drawing the yellow "veins" on the face of the leaf. I need to create lines that start off thin, get thicker in the middle and go back to thin at the other end.
I managed to create the effect by drawing a closed , filled object, and then playing around using the shape tool to achieve the desired result..
Is there a better, quicker way to do this. I tried doing it using the artistic tools but no luck there.
how to draw and big fat line - about 24 pt - with rounded ends, then give that line an outline of its own so I can change the 'fill ' - the original line colour - and get an outlined line?
And just for fun, I want the 'fill' to be semi-transparent!
How can I make an imported scan of a line drawing "transparent" and add color fills to various sections, using the freehand tool ? I have done this many times with an older version of CorelDraw, but in CorelDraw- x5 the
imported scan includes a white background (even when I select NO FILL), so that my freehand tool selections are either on top of, or hidden behind the white background.
how to mirror about a line, but the line was outside the object.
I now have a need to mirror about a line but the line is partially inside the object (so after mirroring the object would be overlapped). When I select both objects and try to create the mirror, the "axis" of the reflection is simply the edge of the object, not the line.
When the line was outside, that worked simply because when you selected both objects the line brought the outside of both selected objects to that point so it simply mirrored / reflected at that point (the line). So the line was not truly acting as a point of reflection. Hope that made sense.
I think I'm about to buy Cadtools from Macromonster but I would like to know if Draw has a way of acheiving this. Hey I may find out Cadtools can't reflect when the line is inside the object.
I would like to add the effect of hand stitched thread around some of my designs. The line tool can change a line to dashes but this is a bit too uniform for hand stitching. I have seen a tutorial on doing this in Photoshop where a brush is made with a few small different length strokes. this is then spaced out and made to follow a path. how to create a hand stitch effect using X5 that looks like natural hand stitching...
I'm out of practice with Corel since it has been several years since using it. I'm trying to create a point on top of a line without adding a point to an existing line but for the life of me I can't figure out how. I know I can create a new line and drag the points to where I want them on the line but I just simply want to create a point on top of the line.
i´m using CRD since X3 so I think i´m quite experienced with all the crashes and uncompatibilities but now I have a problem which I can´t solve.
I made a graphic project which is quite large (2,6m x 2,0m @ 300dpi) and including raster grahics. The CDR file itself has about 400MB. When I tried to export this graphic to the png or jpg at the current size Corel X5 always crashes. I tried almost everything on many computers but always the same problem.
It looks like the project is too large for export. At this moment I desperately need to export the file to jpg or png at full resolution. Maybe X6 is more stable when exports or I have to simplify the project somehow but...
FILE IS UPLOADED here and I need to have it 2,6m x 2,0m: [URL]
Here I have some blue line features. Then I drawn another red line passing through these features. I am trying to cut blue feature wherever red line intersects. how can I achieve this?
Ive got Coral draw 12. What I want to do is to change normal text to a line so that my laser cutter can pick up the fact that its a line to cut and not an engrave. Or is that not possible? if so what program would i need?
in earlier versions of draw you could move one end of line with the pick tool by moving the cursor over the end node grabbing it and moving it where ever you wanted. With x5 it seems that you must go to the node editing tool to select the node. Is there a setting I'm missing that will allow the pick tool to select node?
I am making a 1/4" line around the building number sign I am trying to design, I would like it to be around a 1/4" in from the outer edge and have rounded corners like the sign material.
I am new to Coral Draw x5, and we have just purchased a Roland VersaCamm vs-420, I have an eps file, once i am ready to create a cutline i click shaping > Boundary thats all good, then i can get my cut contour line which is around the image, how can i increase the cut line so i have a 1/2mm white gap around the file im cutting?
I used polyline to trace a tree trunk. I wanted it to be just a series of line segments which I was going to export to AutoCAD and then to Sketchup. However, each segment I drew said it was a curve. When I exported to AutoCAD it came in as a spline. If I convert that to lines, where I had maybe 10 lines there are now 100.
I also tried to 2 point line tool. I started each new line from the end of the previous. It gave me the same result.
Is there a way for me to end up with just the 10 line segments? No spline. No curve. Just 10 straight lines.
I am using CGS12 along with my Epilog laser. The Epilog treats all line-widths up to 0.003" as vector (for cutting) and anything above this as raster (subject to DPI settings).
I have been using 'Hairline' as my vector but recently hit a problem and would like to guarantee that a line defined by a label such as 'Hairline' will always be below 0.003" in width (and therefore a cut-line on the Epilog).
In CDraw X5 I can choose line styles. But I would like to add some more styles (and to remove some that I never use).I only found a possibility to create new styles based on a kind of a pixel approach: A one-by-many array of single squares can be marked to be coloured of white, producing dashed lines with any kind of dash length. Also, the dash "frequency" seems to be dictated by the line width only; I do not manage to make thin dashed lines with a reasonably visible dash frequency.
However, I would like to make line consisting of other shapes, like circles, triangles, diamonds, etc., either filled or "open". Or make thin dashed lines with user-specifiec dash and space lengths that do not change when changing the line width. Is this possible?
Also, multi-colour dashes – with e.g. odd-numbered dashes in one colour and even-numbered ones in another color – might be useful.
In the current version, however, the number of dash schemes available is big enough to be confusing. Especially when the line is made relatively wide – say, 0,5 .. 1 mm or so – and I want to make more lines with the same shape, than it is difficult to find again the same shape the list of standard shapes. Is it possible to add names (or numbers, but not just running numbers!) to the shapes, so that a shape can be found again easily?
I know this has been in Draw for a long while, but I wish they'd make the arrow tip start at the end of a curve.
steps to reproduce:
F7, draw a curve
draw a line
change both to have an arrow on one end
change both to 16px thickness so you can see the arrow position well
This problem comes up when I'm doing a detailed diagram and I've got my arrows going around all over the place. I need to tweek one so I convert to curve... but in doing so, the end of the arrow sticks out farther than it used to... and that forces me to change the postions and angles of possibly a few nodes.
I'd like the arrow to end at the node so there's no change in it's position when you do a convert to curves.
This is one of those... "that's not a bug, it's been around forever" type of things I know, but it should be changed IMHO.
I should mention that this is also a pain when you go in with the node edit tool when the line isn't selected and you can't see the nodes... you click around at the end, and eventually find it hiding in the center of the arrow/triangle part.
I recently purchased Graphics Suite X5 and find I'm having difficulty in getting an accurate sizing to my text height. When I set the text height to be 3" and then start typing, the letter height comes back to me around 2 1/8". I did find another place to set the height but that is only after I finish my lettering. How to resolve this so I don't re-invent the wheel each time I set the lettering to my designs?
I am also having some difficulty with line spacing. I need line space in inches and the software seems to be set on a pt setting with no way to change it to inches.
I create some curves with freehand or 3point curve or else (image on the left). Then I use the artistic media docker to convert it to artistic media. But the artistic media fill is empty.
So I right click on black to fill it, but it fill between the first and last node (image right). Weird.

I have an object that I need to print . It is a cartoon man and a cartoon flag with text next to it . I have printed the whole thing without a cut and it worked fine .
But now I need to print it with the images cut out. I believe I will be able to put a contour around the font easily however the problem is putting it around the flag with man in front of it . right now it makes contours on the inside of the image. Its hard to explain ..... the flag is supposed to be white with blue and red in it . and when I printed it on a big sheet with no contour it was fine .. but now that I need to do it on its own the contour goes inside the flag because there is no rectangle shape around the flag .(no outline around flag) How do I put the rectangle around the flag as well as put a smooth contour around handyman?
I would like to mark the outline of an object with a dotted line/ the outline should be a dotted line to show that this object can be cut out. But I see only where to choose the thickness of a line.
