I just installed 2013 2.2 and the Match function, both the hotkey and right click, still crashed my system?? I've tried a new user. Anything else I can try? It did this in the previous version and I was hoping it would work in the new release.
View 4 RepliesI've tried Match Source, Match Content and Match Frame and while they do different stuff, none of them are doing what I'm expecting.
To be clear, if I organize my clips into bins for an edit, I'm hoping to hit match on a cut sequence and the Smoke will take me to that clip in the media panel, and then I would be able to look through alternate takes of the same shot. It's more useful to me for finding similar sources than making a copy of the source which is already in the timeline.
Is there a match frame function for Smoke on Mac 2013 ?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI use pr5. I got a clip (.mov with audio) and imported the clip and enable the cache source media so it will be transcoded into stone. Now after i edit the clip into the timeline , i want to reveal the master clip. so i select the clip and the audio as well (sync) and try to do match frame (F key). I got new clip reveal in my desktop but only the video, it got no audio. How to get the audio back from the original source ? why the match-frame is ignoring the audio ? so far i have to do silly steps by re edit the source clip back to the timeline to pair back with the audio. is this a bug ?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI might be being really thick but my old method of managing clips and handles in a master was to perhaps conform from rushes with 75fr handles, save that conform but then in my wip master I would consolidate all sees down to 10fr. This way if I was sharing shots around the facility you could match a shot out (using the old match to segment preference rather than match to source) and it would respect the handles you had set in your master.
I can't seem to replicate that old behavior in 2013 smoke. It will either match to source or to just the segment without handles. How can I get it to match out with the handles I have consolidated?
When matching a source clip from the new sequence area it appears that you now have to have the widget on the clip you wish to match rather than just select the clip. Is this a change in the way 'match' works or is it a bug?
It was always nice to just tap the clip and press match rather than now having to scrub your widget to the right layer and clip before pressing match.
Can't seem to find a EDL or XML import function - aren't that in the pre release ?

Is it possible to use the Timearp function in the same way as Time Remapping in AE?
I just watched Grants video for a third time and it doesn't really touch on this kind of time manipulation.
specifically i need to add keyframes at specific events then be able to move those keyframes to match up with other moves on a different video layer, and have the "time" between the two keyframes react accordingly.
I set up a sequence that is HD, but I have source material that is 2K (2560x1440). When I try to insert or overwrite said source clip to the sequence, it should insert and automatically add a resize node. Instead, it changes the sequence size to match the source size. Bug?
Also, I can't seem to find a way to resize the output of my connectFX node to match the sequence size. For example, lets say I want to comp a bunch of shots that are 2K in action, and then output an HD sequence matching my sequence size. How is this done? I have changed the comp size in action and linked that to the connectfx node, but it just puts the smaller comp size in a black box which is the size of the source material (in this case, 2K).

In Combustion, you would draw a selection and then apply an operator above the selection to achieve this. I don't see a similar selection tool function in Smoke, but I imagine you could achieve the same effect by duplicating a layer and using a Gmask via the Wipe timeline FX.does Smoke not have a selection tool similar to Combustion?

It uses all the available RAM that is 4GB.
Same experience with Smoke 2012 on my MacBook pro 13"".

I have RED footage which I exported as EXR. When I import them back in, they look exactly like the RED footage. But when I import the EXR in Fusion, export it back out, and then import that EXR into Smoke, it looks brighter, although I didn't change anything in Fusion. (when I compare the EXR from Smoke and the EXR from fusion in my finder on my desktop, they look exactly the same). So what is Smoke doing with the "foreign" exr on import?I was also playing with the LUT settings. I get a result which is close, but I need to be exact.

I converted the h.264 files to uncompressed 10bit. Bringing in the footage and XML was fine, but as soon as I resize to PAL (the timeline was changed to PAL, as was the output on the AJA) the picture starts anti aliasing in detail areas. I have processed this with every filter in Smoke with no satisfactory result.
I am having issues for a long time regarding importing XML into smoke 2013. Will try and explain you in breif.
First When we try an import XML into smoke it just doesnt do anything, in the message history box it comes up saying FOUND 0 SOURCES.
Nothing gets imported at all. No footage is imported, nothing is shown in timeline as well.
Second For a different project when the XML does get imported, the videos get imported but then again nothing is coming up in the timeline and in the message history box we get the following error.
XML Validation Failed.
Cannot process unliked media.
we have checked all the import options to make this work, including max up level and the rest but nothing is working.
I must have changed a setting because today my interactivity in CFX has taken a hit, specifically when making Axis moves. The move doesnt register until after I have made a change in the Axis field.
I know there is a setting for this but cannot remember. Am not having the same issue grabbing Axis in viewer.
I'm currently trying to conform an XML from FCP 7 into Smoke 2012 (Linux). The issue I have is that the files I want to conform with are MFX, however the files used in the FCP timeline are PRORES, therefore have a '.mov' extension. This means the Smoke is not seeing the MXF files due to the extension & the only way around it I have found, is to edit all of the '.mov' extensions to '.mxf' extensions in the actual XML. This works well, but is a complete nightmare, particularly as I'll have to do this for 13 half hour episodes!!!!
I have tried all the different combinations of Filename, Timecode, Tape, etc, but none work due to other metadata issues from the filming of the footage to it being delivered to our edit suites!!!!
Any way of making the Smoke ignore the file extension?
