AutoDesk Smoke :: 2 Second Delay When Making A Selection?

Mar 31, 2013

Ive recently started having a problem w Smoke 2013.

Whenever I select ANYTHING (click on an item) there is a 2 second delay before it actually selects and hi lights the item. Its a really annoying delay.

Ive never had this issue before. Happens with just about any command I have Smoke do. Moving the timeline and zooming have the same issue.

This only happens with Smoke. Not with any other program I use. This happens when all the time. Even when Smoke is the only program I have open.

Currently TRYING to LEARN (key words): SMOKE for MAC
Currently using: Final Cut Pro 7, Photoshop/After effects on CS6
Current system:
MacPro5,1
12-Core Intel Xeon 2.66 GHz
RAM: 12 GB
ATI Radeon HD 5870 1024 MB
OSX 10.8.3

AutoDesk Smoke :: How To Delay Computer Monitor Video

May 22, 2012

In our edit suite we have the usual video delay from the output of the Kona card through the suites monitors. We also have an audio delay box to correct for this. Our client monitors are all in sync. In Final Cut there is a control to delay the computer monitor video to have it in sync with the rest of the system. In Smoke we cannot find a similar delay. We see the audio delay in preferences but that changes the wrong offset. how to adjust the computer monitor delay so we are all in sync?

AutoDesk Smoke :: GUI And Broadcast Sync - Playback Delay Or Offset

Nov 8, 2013

The GUI and broadcast monitors in all 3 of our Smokes (Mac) are out of sync by 2 frames.

I know there is a Audio offset, but that will always throw one of the monitors out.

Is there a playback delay or offset that can be used to sync bother the UI monitor and the Broadcast Monitor?

Currently having to use the shortcut Shift+B+F13 to switch between Sync to Hi-Res and Sync to Broadcast depending on the situation.

AutoDesk Smoke :: Making Clip Names Stick

Feb 15, 2012

I am usually in the position of taking an FCP edit, relinking it to the hires and putting it out for desktop computers to work on. So as part of this process after I relink, I match source out the clips, rename them from whatever A016_C015 name they have from the footage to our naming structure, something like plate_SC030 or something, and putting it back into the conform and saving the shots separately.

The annoying this is this name doesn't stick. If I match source it out again, old name. If i relink a new XML to this reel of renamed clips, all old names. This turns into a real problem when I get successive new versions of the cut and i would love to just relink to the renamed clips and see at a glance what the changes are between versions. Instead I'm stuck staring a timeline full of A00x_C00x.

AutoDesk Smoke :: Contextual Font Selection

Would love the ability to select fonts contextually. That is, I want to look at my text on screen and use the arrow keys on my keyboard to cycle through fonts (Photoshop style).

Going into a new window to select a font and then back out to view the result is absolutely maddening. Really hinders the creative process.

AutoDesk Smoke :: Making Layers Not Respond To 3D Camera In Action

Dec 11, 2012

I have a 3d scene (FBX) with a 3d camera, rendered 3d elements and filmed elements that need to be comped in a way that required some layers to respond to the 3d camera and some need to stay 2d. Because some of the 2d layers need to occlude layers in 3d space it is not practical to pre comp.

Is there way in Action to get a a layer to ignore a 3d camera or respond to a different camera? In AE for example you would toggle the 3d layer setting.

Also is there a way to make a layer auto orientate towards the camera?

AutoDesk Smoke :: Use Selection Sets To Quickly Pull Up Kfs

Jul 17, 2012

I'm struggling with Selection Sets in 2012 Adv..I have a batch fx with 3 Action nodes in it. Each has a lot of stuff so I was hoping to use Selection Sets to quickly pull up the kfs I needed to tweek.

I set up about 4 sets but once I exit and go back in 3 of the sets (the ones in the action node I'm currently working in) have cleared. ie, they're still there but empty. The one set I've defined for the other Action node is ok.

I have tried setting them with 'Define' and with 'Add Selection to'.I think I must be missing one trick here, like not saving correctly?

Photoshop :: Feathering A Selection Outwards After Making A Selection

Dec 26, 2003

If I have mad a selection with say an ellipse marque, of say 100px and now I want to fether that same selection outwards, ie to start the feather 10 px outward of the 100px selection so that the 100th px has a 100% transparency and the 110th px has a transparency of zero, thus making the new selection 110px, how could I go about doing it. With the current feathering of the selection, it feathers only in the marquee already selected, not outward, and you cannot place negative feathering px. I know that there is most likely some sort of a ration where you would expand the selection by a certain amount of px, and then apply a ratio of feathering to it to enalble it to feather outside of the 100px marquee.

2. If I have a QuickTime in animation format or Pro Res4444 format with an embedded alpha, how can I import that file to show and cut it on a top layer to animate above my video?

AutoDesk Smoke :: Selections In Smoke As In Combustion?

Jul 10, 2012

Does Smoke have selection functionality similar to that of Combustion? As an example, you might want to selectively blur part of an image. In Combustion, you would draw a selection and then apply an operator above the selection to achieve this. I don't see a similar selection tool function in Smoke, but I imagine you could achieve the same effect by duplicating a layer and using a Gmask via the Wipe timeline FX.does Smoke not have a selection tool similar to Combustion?

Photoshop :: Making A Selection

May 23, 2009

I am trying to make and save a selection to then manipulate.  (I am following two different books.)  In my attempt to make and save a selection, I've used several of the selection tools.  I can easily get to the point where I have the 'marching ants' around the selection.

But when I try to save the selection a little window comes up that says there are 'no pixels selected'.  I get to the point (using, for example, 'load selection' and 'save selection') that I name the selection but when I hit 'OK' the 'no pixels selected' notice pops up.

I've created a new layer and tried to save the selection in the layer.  Same 'no pixels selected' notice comes up.  I've tried to simply 'save the selection' - same 'no pixels selected' notice appears.  I've tried 'copy as new layer', I've even tried to drag the selection over to the layer - nope, doesn't work!

Oh, and the really frustrating thing is that when I click out of the 'no pixels selected' notice window, my marching ants are gone and I have to start all over.  How do you 'get' the selection into a layer?

I am using the lasso tool.

Photoshop :: Making A Selection Around Multiple Layers

Jun 26, 2012

Before I start looking for work on transforming PSD's into working websites, I would like to learn some of the functions and features of Photoshop Creative Suite 5.1.

I recently learned:

Ctrl + Win + Click on Desired Layer… To make a selection around the layer

Then I clicked on, "Refine Edge"… I was able to make a perfect selection around what I wanted using this feature. Very nice, by the way.

There were multiple layers, I merged the visible ones to make one layer. All of the stuff that makes up the banner, at the top of the page. My question is:

Can I make a selection around multiple layers, i.e. buttons, other pictures, etc.?

Side note question:

Does the document size have any effect on the overall size? Meaning: let's say that banner up top is 775 pixels across & maybe about 450 pixels tall… That's about the size of the image (the selected layer). The document size is laying on, is also 775 pixels across… But, 950 pixels tall. Will that document size have any effect on load time for a webpage?
