I have a title block i want to edit the text in, but it's locked! Don't know how this happened, nor how to unlock it...

AutoCAD 2010 :: How To Unlock Automatically Locked For Editing
Mar 1, 2013My colleague made some drawings using AutoCAD 2011. Somehow the sheet status in Sheet Set Manager says all the drawings are locked for editing - it was unintentional. The drawings can be fully viewed only from the computer, which created the drawings. In other computers, we can only see the text. The model view and the bottom of the drawing which contains drawing number and other info do not show.
We need to deliver our drawings to the customer so they can see the coordinates in the maps/drawings.
How could we change the status or unlock it so the customer can view the entire drawings? If possible, we still want the drawings unable to be edited.
In our computer, we have AutoDesk Vault - did it somehow kicked in automatically?

Aug 16, 2011Create a command (macro) to unlock all locked layers and remove the fade effect. I know how to unlock them by using the command LAYULK, selecting the entities on the locked layer. I have been trying to automate the command so I don't have to select entities.

Mar 13, 2013one layer in a photoshop document has a padlock on it; no clue how it got there. I can't make it go away; perhaps the method is different in CS6 than in previous versions...
Any clue about this? I can't fill a selection on this particular layer...don't know why. The layer in question IS selected, and the selection is active, etc.

Sep 19, 2012I was on a tight deadline. I got a massively layered, -- nested folders everything -- .psd. I'm using Photoshop CS 5.5
I only needed the visible layers. So, I go to "Delete Hidden Layers" right? Ooops it was grayed out, I could not use it -- that was because of the locked layers...
Then I realized -- in the complicated layer structure I had to go through every single folder, open it, look for a locked layer and unlock it (nested folders inside of nested folders etc.). If the layer was not visible and it was locked, I had to first turn it to visible, then unlock it, and then turn it off again.
I was on a deadline, and I just didn't have time -- but I had to do it anyway. This was a painful experience... I'm telling designers from now on NEVER SEND ME A PSD WITH LOCKED LAYERS AGAIN
It would have been so much easier if I could just search for "locked layers", and "unlock all."

When I go into block editor, edit the block then close it out. My cursor is really jerky in model space. Especially bad when I go into a command and try to select something. The only way to get rid of the jerkiness is to close auto cad and restart it. Is there anyway to cure this?
I have 2010 and am experiencing this exact same problem. It is intermittent and will sometimes 'go away' after a few minutes. Block editing is definitely related as a cause. I use SDI = 1 predominantly and it seems to be session independent. In other words one drawing session is experiencing the problem but jumping to another concurrent session exhibits no issues.
Task manager shows off the chart 99% plus on process ACAD when it is occurring.
Palette transparency is off globally. I have installed the latest NVidia driver for my Quadro NVS 285 video card. I am running a 3GHz P4 with 4 Gigabytes of ram - Dell Precision 380 workstation. Block Editor background color is default.
Restarting AutoCAD does make it go away - for the moment - but it is soon back. Even closing all tool palettes has no effect.
This does seem to be drawing specific - 2010 seems to be sensitive to something in older drawing blocks - prototype drawings from hotel vendors for instance - most likely inherited from a third party DXF process exhibit the issue heavily - and blocks from these drawings to a lesser degree. I have to constantly purge, audit, and wblock/replace my drawings to keep them clean. My default file type is 2010 which 'seems' to work, but it still happens. Audits show constant drawing errors cropping up, and repeating an audit, shows the same errors until a wblock replace is performed.

Nov 15, 2013I know that in ACAD you can use the xref manager to see where the actual file for the xref resides on your computer/server/etc. What I'm curious about is whether or not the inverse action is possible. Can you somehow access the file (not the output sheet where it's being xref-ed) and see what other files are using it as an xref?
I've come in on a project that is nearing completion and have been assigned the task of "cleaning up the project folder." Unfortunately, there are a ton of files in the different folders that are no longer in use on the final output sheets and I need to keep the ones still in use and archive the ones that are no longer needed. What I've been doing is going through those sheets and reviewing the xref manager for each sheet to see which files are actually put onto those sheets and making a physical checklist from which to organize my findings. Once the checklist is made, I then archive all the files that are no longer being used.

I have got a similar routine from earlier posts but it doesn't work if any xrefs inserted in paper space (works fine on model space). could change this routine allowing to change the layer of xref in paper space too.

Oct 2, 2012I am using (trying to anyway) a :VLR-xrefSubcommandReloadItem reactor. My only question is how to get the xref/block name from the 'reactor callback data' Object ID.
I am ultimately trying to pass it to (vla-get-xrefdatabase ....), but I cannot figure out how to turn the second parameter from the reactor callback data into something I can use - for example the second parameter returned may be "65" or some other number.

is it possible to bind an xref, but preserve that link in the xref manager? i realize that will lead to two copies of the same object in the drawing (one xref, plus the new block). everyone's okay with that happening.

Oct 30, 2012I have 102 layout tabs and many more to come on this project. Each layout tab is a different scale (I know, awesome, right?). Is there a quick way to lock/unlock the viewport? I'm ctrl+dragging to create new layouts and it's simply annoying to click the little lock button to change the scale. (**** first world problems.)
Tried messing with the hotkeys but I can't even get F1 to disappear with LT like I can with full version.

Oct 14, 2009I have imported an image into AutoCAD 2007 education version. The aspect ratio is a little wrong, so I would like to stretch it in one dimension. In another version of AutoCAD (LT 2008 ) I can simply right click on the picture to open the properties where there is an option to lock/unlock the aspect ratio. However, in this version there is no such option in the properties. It appears that by default the aspect ratio is locked, i.e. any stretch in the x direction is simultaneously copied in the y direction.
How to unlock the aspect ratio in this case? Is it because of the version I am using? Is it in another menu instead of properties? Is there a keyboard command to unlock aspect ratio?
To complicate matters a bit further, this is the Japanese version, however, I am fairly sure that is not the cause of the problem.

Jul 30, 2011When I right click on a viewport I no longer get the menu that includes the lock/unlock choice, or anything else. I can select the viewport but I have no control over it. Also when I select objects the layer information is not displayed. Until today I did not have this problem. I'm thinking it might be a settings issue, because if I open this file up on another computer I can control viewport as usual. The only think I can think of that I may have done different is I was experimenting with rotation of view ports.

Jun 17, 2013Just got upgraded to version 2013 by IT. Seeing that AD still can't maintain consistency from vers to vers. This version replaced 'Color Styles" with 'Appearances'. But, not just appearances, you have Document Appearances, the Autodesk Material Libray, the Autodesk Appearance Library, and the Inventor Material Library.
Why would the Material libraries show up when clicking the Appearances button when there is another button right beside it to get to Materials.
I mean, who is really going to use several dozen different types of flooring. And why is some metal in the metal category and some in default Category. And then some is in the metal Type and some in the generic Type. Is there really a need for two fields for organizing 'appearances' ? If this were a graphical design program I couls see some of this but it is a cad program. Seems like a case of trying to tailor one product to too many markets.
To the question. How do I unlock the Autodesk Appearance Library so I can get rid of all the junk I don't need and add some really obvious ones that are not there.

Oct 16, 2013Just upgraded to 2014. I have a custom tool palette set up and Content Browser pointing to right catalog. Custom tool palette was copied from 2012. I was able to modify all tool properties within that palette to point to right content file but one. Can't change the property in one tool on palette.
Patette is locked (I locked it when I created it in 2012) and I have Right Access to all of the network files in Architecture (this is sitting on a network). Why is it the Tool Palette won't Unlock?

Nov 28, 2012When I first created my surface model, any point I moved would snap back to its original position like a rubber band. I had to do some edits so I unlocked this by .... Survey Tab>My survey database>Survey Points>Points, and then picked "Unlock In Drawing". This command unlocked All points in the drawing so I could edit them.
Now that I am done with my edits, how do I reverse this command globally, so as to get ALL points locked again (so they snap back to their original position like a rubber band if moved, like before) ?

Sep 16, 2012I lock my viewports in paper space then I start drawing and editing in my viewport. All a suddenly I will noticed that the image is moving. It seems like the view port image moves out of the port. I then have to unlock the viewport and pan the image back in the port. I have noticed that this is worse in 2013 than 2012. What is the problem here? Is it a program flaw? Is there a way to fix this?
