Jul 23, 2012I got a unitless model! So, I changed it to Inches (Format/ Units). However, it does sound like nothing has been changed!

Sep 11, 2013If you insert a Unitless block into a drawing with the units set to mm or inches via the interface, AutoCAD will automatically take care of the scaling for you. By looking at the properties of a Unitless block after insertion it appears as though all CAD is doing is scaling the block in accordance with the units in the drawing.
How CAD is doing this calculation and how to get the same effect using the .NET API at the time of insertion?I could setup a function that examines the units of the block being inserted and the units of the drawing the block is being inserted into but how would i be sure i'm using the same conversion value as CAD?
e.g. I might decide 1 Unit = 0.0393 when i do the insert, whereas CAD might use 1 Unit = 0.03937007.
It would be nice to either use the same value or a function that the API provides that i'm not aware of to do the conversion
AutoCad :: Convert PDF To DWG But Units Are Off?
Apr 7, 2013I was able to convert the pdf to a dwg but the units are off. I know that some things need to be redone, but I was wondering if this drawing can be made accurate. For example, the top line is supposed to be 30.500 m but in the converted file it only comes out to .11 m

Jun 13, 2012I am attempting to bring a DEM into Civil 3D using the "create surface from DEM" function. I am successful with this, but the units for the DEM appear to be correct for X-Y and incorrect for elevation. The original DEM has metric X-Y coordinates and English elevations. I would like all to be in English units in the Civil 3D file.
The elevation values and X-Y values have been reduced by a factor of 1/3.208 as I have set the drawing units to English. This is correct for the X-Y, but incorrect for the elevation as the original DEM has metric X-Y coordinates and English elevations.

Sep 10, 2013Our school rercently updated to Inventor 2014, When working starting a new assembly we seslect the standard mm ipt icon, however as soon as you create a new compont it defaults to inches, we can change the units using styles editor, but this only changes this componont when you create another part it also defaults to inches.
Can you change the setup so that it will always be in mm.

I know how to add normal Point3D line:

But not sure how to do it with an angled line.

I am trying to create an alignment from existing polyline that I had recieved from another companies drawing. It was alignment in their drawing but only comes through as linework. That's not the problem. The problem is that when I try and create a new alignment out of the existing polyline, the units are way off. the existing drawing had ticks every 100 feet obviously, but after I create my alignment, I get like 400-500 feet in before the existing one gets 100. Trying to find a scale issue, but not seeing one.

Apr 6, 2013I have been trying to draw in mm, i.e, when i draw a line 1000 i want it to be 1000 mm. but currently when i do that i'm getting a line way too long, cant even zoom out to see it fully. i can only draw shorter lines (ex. 30) to be able to see it fully.

Okay so I tried this, and I change it to feets. The problem is, that whenever i draw a line, it would always be in inches. I want to find a way to draw in feets, so how I can do this.

AutoCAD .NET :: Determine Units Of A Property?
Oct 24, 2012I am selecting items and grabbing their DBObjects, and then reflecting on those objects to inspect properties of the object. For example, I might have a DBObject that is actually of type Pipe, Duct, DuctFitting, Line, etc, so I am using TypeDescriptor reflection to handle various cases in as abstract a way as possible.
My first question is this: Is this the smartest way to grab all of the attributes of a give object? Is there another call I can make the retrieve all of the attributes for a Pipe and a Line (to very different types of objects).
Second, when I see a property named Length and it is a double I know it has to be a length and that I can use the units from the drawing. Is there a way to programatically discover this other than the name of the property and its type (double)? In other words is there some metadata I could retrieve about any given property against which I am reflecting, or is there a smarter way to get these attributes which might provided said metadata?
AutoCAD LT :: Drawing Units Scale
Oct 12, 2011I am experiencing with an old drawing I am trying to open. The problem seems to lie in that there is a hidden scale factor being applied to the dimension.
I draw a line that is 1.27 long. When I dimension the line the resulting value is .635. I have double checked that my primary units are set to a scale factor of 1 and the problem still persists. Even more strange is that if I set the primary unit scale to 1.5 the resulting dimension value is correct at 1.905, with primary scale of 2 the dimension is 2.54, etc. I have used AutoCAD for many years and never run into this issue.I am dimensioning in the model space when this occurs and using AutoCAD LT 2012.

Oct 10, 2012I am familiarizing myself with the existing drawings here. I am working on version 08 (was previously on 07). I opened a dwg in 08 and received an error message "Newer AEC Object Detected" stating that some commands would not be available. With no other option I opened the drawing and discovered it was in metric. I went up to the Format tab as I normally would to change the Units to Architectual and discovered that there was no option to change the units. Even typing in Units in the command bar didnt do anything. It seems as if this drawing was originally created in 07 and now OPENS in 08 but you lose commands? It used to be that you couldnt even open something it was created in a older version, no? Luckily a PC in the office does have 07 and I was able to open it there to change the units over but I cant do this every time.

Jan 7, 2013I have drawn a couple of small buildings. I'm using meters and plotting to A3. For some reason the in the layouts I have to put in a scale of 15:1 and 8:1 to see the building when I print.
I have looked at some other buildings that people have drawn, they are of a similar size in real terms. However they are plotting to 1:25.

Dec 15, 2011I have this problem with units. I am using 2012 Autocad drafting. I want to work with millimeters, for instance usually when I type 1000, that is usually refereed as 1 meter. Now in the new model space when I type 1000 the line is so long, I even have to press regenerate so that I can see the line. I checked the units, they are set to millimeters, I also checked from options - user preferences they are also set to millimeters.
When for instance I will open an older file that I worked on in autocad 2010, in autocad 2012, it will work fine, when I will write 1000, it will actually come up as one meter. The settings in units and options - user preferences are the same.
I also copied a table from the 2010 file to the new one, and the chair comes up very big in the screen, so again I use regenerate to zoom out.
Also every time I open a new file, I have to go to units and change it from Inches to millimeters. Is there a way to do it once, so that you don't have to do it every time you open a new file in autocad? I know you can customize your workspace, and I have, but that doesn't seam to do it.

At first i used inches to draw 5 inches line and the get the dimension of it, second i drew again a line using the millimeter in units, but when i measured it still it is exact to the first line that i draw.

Dec 13, 2012So we have started some work overseas and I have been trying to make sense of the metric units in CAD. Metric units in general, make way more sense then imperial units but how they work in CAD has been confusing.
I am familiar with the UNITS command and have changed the drawing units to "decimal" and the insertion units to "unitless"
I know that when you draw a 1 unit line in model space it could represent a 1 millimeter line or a 1 meter line and that it is up to the drafter to decide what it will be. I also am familiar with setting up dim styles to dimension correctly based off of whether you are drawing in meters or millimeters.
I have set my Adobe pdf printer to A1 23.4" X 33.1" (594mm x 841mm). when I draw a 1 unit line in paper space and print the layout the 1 unit line measures 1 inch?
AutoCAD 2013 :: Dimension Primary Units
Apr 9, 2013We are having an issue with Dimensioning and the Primary Units not maintaining the correct value. We use metric so the multiplier of 25.4 or .039370079 for Dim Scale Linear would be used in our Dimension Styles depending on if we are drawing in model space or annotating in paper space. We have created specific Dim Styles for Model and Paper space. Every so often some of us will us the Dim Style for paper space and a metric unit would be shown. When we go into the properties of that dimension and change the Dim Scale Linear to 1 it shows as a different dimension then it actually is. After looking at the correct dimenion, we noticed the Dim Scale Linear shows .9449 but gives the correct dimension.
Note: We are drawing in Metric a multiplier of 25.4, our dimensions are done in english. A scale factor of .039370079 is used to accomplish this.
There is a simple fix with Match Properties but it still doesn't answer why our dimension show up wrong with a different multiplier for Dim Scale Linear.
AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Scaling - Units In Drawing
Oct 16, 2012I have a drawing that was given to me by an architect with a scale 1:250 (0.004 in viewport). The architect drew everything in millimeters and it's a Site Plan, why ? I do not know. The units in the drawing are decimal-millimeters.
The page set-up for layout 1 was for 24x36 drawing size (typ.)I know need to make a layout 2 for a sheet size 11x17 but I can not get my viewport to scale correctly. So, if a 24x36 sheet size had a VP with scale 0.004 (1:250) then what is the scale for a sheet size 11x17 ?
