View 9 RepliesI am trying to draw 3D models for the first time, and something is confusing me. Sometimes when I draw a rectangle and it asks for a length width and height it seems the width means something else and the width means something else. I think the width means the distance from the z-axis on the XY plane, but then sometimes it is the distance from the Y-axis on teh XZ plane. I am just wondering if there is a good way to keep that a constant, or to remember which the length, width, and height is referring to at any given time.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI migrated to 2013 last week (from 2012). I have a welded part which consists of only two items: a hub and a plate. I brought in that welded piece into another file which is going to take care of the machining. I machined one side without any issues. The second side refuses to machine the back of the plate. It does everything else but will not cut into the back of the plate.
Please find attached the part I am trying to machine 60077B which is made of 60077F which in turn is made of 50176 & 50204. The final thickness of the plate is supposed to be 1" currently it holds its ground at 1.063".
I have been using AutoCAD to create product designs (baby bottles) for the last three years. I am normally drawing lines, arcs and splines to create the shape, then I use PEDIT to create a closed polyline and REVOLVE to create a SOLID 3D object from that shape.
Couple days ago, AutoCAD is not longer creating 3D solids when I use REVOLVE as usual (even using older files and/or the same shapes or polylines that I have used before to create 3D solids). The result of REVOLVE is "SURFACE (REVOLVE)" (I got that from properties). But, the most uncommon thing is that AutoCAD is revolving fine one or two times per day after many many tries. (normally I am closing and opening files and trying to revolve some stuff many times, using the same process and suddenly it revolves the sahpe as a 3D solid)
I attached a picture showing two objects created using the same group of lines, splines and acrs. One is a solid 3d object and the other one is a surface (revolve) as result of using REVOLVE command. WHY????
I am trying to do the Merging Geometry section of the Revolving Door tutorial. I have completed the first section up to the point where I saved "my_revolving_door_animated.max". The next step is the merge. I chose Import>Merge from the Application menu. I can't find startupentranceway.max anywhere. I opened my Documents library on the HD I downloaded everything from Parts 1 & 2. The entranceway folder is there. Is there any way I can import from there to merge with my scene?

I want to disseminate which walls are currently modeled to deck and which ones stop short so I can selectively coordinate this.
This seems completely logical, but I don't see the option to allow this.
Why does Revit allow me to schedule the Length of a Wall, but not it's Height - am I missing something?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI have 4 layers (background, layer1, layer2, layer3-text). They fill all 300 x 600 pixels that comprise the .psd/future image. What I want to do is use a rounded rectangle to encompass all of the other layers, so that the surrounding pixels (around the rounded rectangle) are transparent.
I want all of my current layers to be the content of a rounded rectangle.
I saw that the Rounded Rectangle properties were not available on the regular rectangle (to change corner radius).

I am trying to change the height of the points. "pntelev layer" all at one time. The drawing was giving to me by our surveyor, and I am having a hard time finding a command to edit multiple points at the same time.
I can select one point and utilize block editor to change the height, but is there a way to select multiple points and edit all of them at one time?
I am using AutoCad 2012 and I believe that is one of my issues, b/c in the past when using Civil3D I had a points tab, and that is where we went to edit things like this.
I attached a .dwg

View 4 Replies View RelatedSuppose I have a rectangle 10 x 8 and then I join the middle points of the widths with a line ... so I will end up with 2 boxes of 5 x 8. Now what I need to do is to stretch the side by 2 units to become 12 by 8 but I want the middle line to move automatically during the stretching process so I end up with two boxes of 6 x 8.

Trying to model a curb height transition in my corridor. Over about 15' I want to go from a 6" curb to flush.
The only way I can seem to get it to show accurately is to leave a void in my corridor. This allows the surface which is created from the corridor to model correctly and give me a transition of my curb height from 6" to flush. Here's the object viewer showing it correctly:
However, there are a few problems with this approach. Mainly I've come to like the way the relatively new "extract corridor solids" tool (toolspace, toolbox, miscellaneous Utilities, corridor solids). I use this to create a fairly nice looking Navisworks model. With the void, now my model has a void. It seems to me that there should be a way to have a subassembly that can target both the back of curb profile and the edge of gutter simultaneously. I've tried with the standard subassembly "UrbanReplaceCurbGutter2" but with no luck. Any successful modeling a curb height transition within their corridor?
is there any way to make all the rows in the BOM/parts list on an IDW the same height? I did a search on this and saw nothing new on this. the reason we need this is for a program we use after export to dwg. it is a program we use in autocad that is a txt copy lisp program to populate attributed customer title blocks.

Is there any place in Inventor which shows the dimensions width / height / length of an object?
Please take a look at the attachment M3.jpg first.
I want to measure the overall height of this object. This is just a simple object to show my problem. I want to use the ruler tool of Inventor 2013 to measure the height, but I cannot make it.
I click the bottom line of thy cylindrical part, then I want to click the top most point of the half sphere, but I cannot.
Inventor always highlights the whole half sphere so I cannot specify the second measurement point exactly.
Why I cannot measure what I want to? The only solution is that I put the object in front view an draw a sketch and measure the sketch. What for I have a measurement tool?
how to change the MText Height property in vb.net, i used the below code, Dim mytext As New MText mytext.Contents = txt mytext.height = 130 mytext.Location = Pt mytext.Attachment = AttachmentPoint.MiddleCenter But it is showing an error that Height is an invalid method.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've set up a load of dim styles for varying scales i.e 1:1 through to 1:50.Now the text height is set to 2.5 on 1:1. However when I have changed a dimension string to the dimstyle the text changes to 0.625!?
But if I draw a dim from scratch it's correct. The dimensions are not annotative. When I open properties bar the text height is stated at the desired 2.5 but when I double click to edit text it says 0.625.
Now I can't be bothered to go through my drawings and double click to edit the text hieght or redraw all my dims I just want to 'matchprop', but it's matching!
When I export .idw in autocad .dwg, the tolerance text height of dimensions with 'Limits/Fits-Show tolerance' change, becoming the same of the dimensions text, while the tolerance text height of dimensions without 'Limits/Fits-Show tolerance' remain the same of the .idw file. Why? There's something I can do, to ensure that text height no change? See the attached pictures that show the problem.
I use Inventor 2011 with SP1.
I have a wall that I want to be 34' in height. Right now the default is 9' so when I select the wall & go into Properties, I see under Dimensions where I can change the Height but I have to select two points. I'm unable to type in 34'. Same thing with the Length. Where do I say I want this one wall to be 34'?
