AutoCad :: Placing Viewport On Top Of Another?
Jan 14, 2008Is there an option to make a viewport stay on top of another and not have the underlying one shine through? Or do I have to line up their boundaries to prevent this?

Jan 23, 2013Problem: When I create a new viewport, another viewport's paperspace blanks out or disappears. When I copy a viewport over, the new VP doesn't show anything and you can't maximize/"enter" its paperspace; it's like a simple rectangle, but the properties box says it is indeed a viewport.
Ex. Viewport 1 shows the top view of an object, Viewport 2 shows the right side view... as soon as I add Viewport 3, the top view in VP 1 blacks out. I attempt to ReDraw, Regenerate, etc, but it doesn't re-appear. I've run Plot Preview to see if maybe it's just a fluke with the graphics card on my screen, but alas, even in plot preview the viewport is blanked out.
It almost seems like there is a limited number of viewports I can use.
Solution: Run the MaxActVP command and set the value to a number greater than the number of VPs you actually need. This particular file had that value set at 2; hence, why a new, third VP blanked out the first one.

Jul 12, 2012I have a drawing with a viewport that fits to the page. And I created another smaller viewport over top that just shows the legend. Now when I try to double click inside the smaller viewport it always goes into the larger one. I have tried bringing the smaller one to the front but that didn't work. I know that I can clip the larger viewport around the smaller one or bring the legend right into paperspace or slid the smaller one off to the side work in it and slide it back. This is more out of curiosity of how to get into the smaller viewport.

the odd thing is it never finds the frozen viewports on the first viewport. It catches the others fine.I cannot see anything odd either, the counts of viewports and layers are all correct, and the drawing has no problems.Is there something that must be done to initialize the mechanism that reads viewport overrides?

i think this is because the point is not associated with the cloned (from xref) object? any thoughts on how to get it to work with the single object selection/insertion point prompt? in the meantime ive re-written to have a second prompt for the insertion point, which works on the cloned object.

Problem:
When placing an Ipart into a project Assembly it will make a copy of that variant and place it in the same map as the Ipart.
So when variant B of Ipart A is selected it will make a copy of variant B in the same folder where Ipart A is located.
Question:
Is it possible to make a “save as” option or another similar manner to save those copies of variant B in a project map of a project assembly?
Instead of saving all the Ipart variants to a single folder. So each time a new project is started they have all the parts in the same folder.
Reason:
I am making a local library for parts that are used for repairs. These parts have many variants and some times need to be customized for a repair.
The current system keeps polluting itself causing the users to loose their parts and accidentally delete the original parts etc.
I contacted Autodesk support and theyrecommended to post this question on this forum. They did mentioned that vba programming could achieve this. I have no knowledge of this type of programming.

Maybe i have this mixed up. Are we talking about a virtual label or a real label (textbox describing label)?
I would like to add a 1-12" plastic covered adhesive label at each connector to identify the connector. Usually we place a text box with an identifier and a table with the label data on the drawing.
This is what i am trying to do. Is this not right? Is this the nailboard label that inventor is talking about or am i out to lunch?

AutoCad :: Placing Spaces In Block Names?
Sep 18, 2012I am renaming a bunch of blocks that had non-descriptive code names with new descriptive names for our power substation division. Example: 2002 -> Strain Clamp U Bolt.
I am debating whether I should put spaces in the new names or use the under-bar '_' for spaces. If I use spaces the names will look nicer and may word wrap better when I put these blocks into a tool palette. But I'm paranoid about using spaces because of the nagging feeling it might be a problem down the road, say with parsing in lisp code or something.

I can make any size assembly with no problem but as soon as I go to make an idw the program crashes and shuts down. Mar 13, 2013I have been working with macros basically making user forms to control the models. The program calls on a part that I use as an actuation template (its just a part with parameters that are then linked to the assembly contraints) then the macro will change the parameters and update the model.
What I need to do is to put in some code in the userforn initialize sub that gets the actuation template from the disk, for example: C:Other StuffActuation Template A.ipt. Then the macro places the part into the assembly. The userform then manipulates the actuation template (and the assembly model). Then when the userform is unloaded the part is deleted from the assembly.

Nov 21, 2013I have a long, serpentine, 3D solid that also changes elevation. It's "S" shaped from the top and "U" shaped from the side. I need to place objects perpendicular to one surface and at a specific increment. The 3D Solid is about 3000 feet long and I need to put the perpendicular objects (3D solid or a block) at 4' increments (this is the linear dimension and not an aligned dimension) and they must always follow the orientation of the long solid. Imagine a railroad track twisting and turning as it goes through a valley and trying to put a post, aligned to the bottom of the track, every 4’ as seen from the top.
