AutoCad :: Controlling Pen Styles With AutoPublish To PDF
Feb 7, 2012Can a user control pen styles when they are plotting pdf using AutoPublish? Seems like I can't get it to Auto publish to the correct *.ctb file.

View 1 RepliesI am having layer control issues when dealing with Point Styles. I have a Description Key set up that will put the specified point style on a certain layer. For instance the point style COMH will be placed on the V-UTLY-MH layer upon insertion. The point style that I have created will have the Marker associated to the V-UTLY-MH-SYM layer and the Label associated with the V-UTLY-MH-LABEL layer. I also have the check box at the bottom of the Object Layers Tab in the Drawing Settings Dialog box checked that says "Immediate and independent layer on/off control of display components" checked. With all of this set up, I still cannot independently layer on /off the label of the point style without having to create a Point Group Style and have no label style selected within the Point Group Styles Properties.
While I understand how to do this and can set up multiple Point Group Styles and push them up and down to get the visuals to do what I want, we have to deliver our drawings to clients who are not the most CIVIL 3D savvy of people. Any work around that does not involve duplicating and exploding the cogo points just so that clients can layer on/off or freeze/thaw the point lables in a drawing? I have included an image of the settings with the code used for the COMH point style and description key settings.
I am trying to control the visibility or visual style of the model but through the linked arch file. Everything is wireframe or simple black and white lines and I can see all my devices and equipment for the entire length of the building when I only want to see the devices in the room or where the camera is. It seems when I switch to hidden only my devices change no the linked arch model nor do any of my devices on the other side of the wall go away. I am sure for some the answer is simple but it is escaping me entirely. where I can better control the visual styles in my views of not just my own stuff but the other disciplines as well. Do I have to do anything to the linked files? Going through the Visibility Graphics Links tab doesnt seem to work either.
View 5 Replies View RelatedUsing the autopublish command, I'm getting PDF files that display just fine on my monitor, but then when I try to print I get this series of error messages:
"The document could not be printed."
"There were no pages selected to print."
"A drawing error occurred."
But the most frustrating thing is that it only happens for some .dwg files, not all. It seems that the larger they are and the more pages involved, the more likely they are to produce this error.
EDIT: I just went through and tried to print page by page. It turns out of the 22 pages, the only two that won't print and give the errors above have no viewports and are just two large tables filled with text. Is there anything I can do to these tables to make the pages print?
How do you apply certain contour label styles to certain surface styles (i.e. When I have an existing surface i want the default contour labels to be an "existing contour" style). Right now the default is a "finished contour" label style for all surfaces.
View 4 Replies View RelatedHow do update the styles library to keep from getting the Styles Conflict error box. I have used the Standard.dwg file that loaded with Inventor 2012 but everytime I change styles and save the changes in a new template in reverts back to the library definitions.
I used to be able to select 'NO' in the LIbrary option of the Projects Folder but that optiion no longer exists.
We've created a new parts list style for a border.When the border tempalt file is on the c: drive...everything works hunky dory...parts list, revision tables, etc.But as soon as we copy and paste that border into the template library folder for new drgs...the parts list style is missing from the local styles?
So to make it appear on the new document...the style manager has to be set at all styles and the new parts list style has to be saved to the document?What aren't we doing to make it appear on the template?
Also note that because the drawing border template is in a template folder as part of the design projects...it is NOT editable...so it has to be edited outside the template folder.
Is it possible to change a drawing using named plot styles (.stb) to colourdependent plot styles (.ctb) within the drawing itself? The variable'pstylemode' comes up as read-only.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAs a background....I am coming off of 10+ years using Catia (that's the software the company used) and have moved to a company that uses Inventor instead. I have used inventor for the past year.
In the past (Catia) it seemed pretty intuitive to create the vertical and horizontal during the creation of the sketch in such a way that would reflect the way you would want it defined as a view in a drawing. As well as controlling the preferred screen view (vertical +’ve to the top of the screen and horizontal +’ve to the right of the screen)
As per a previous post....I have tried the "Edit Coordinate System" but find it difficult to control the Vertical and Horizontal axis independent of each other.......
I understand that "functionally" there is no issue...but it becomes quite disorienting in a complex model when going to edit a sketch and the model spins around, showing the sketch in an orientation that doesn't relate to the models features, or "sketch related" features.
It becomes especially difficult/confusing when modifying/checking other peoples models as well.
I just wanted to support the need for this functionality. In the end it just enhances the flexibility of the software and maintain some amount of definable company standard work procedures for modelling.
Maybe it hasn't been included in the software because of proprietary reasons? I would hope there is a reason.....it seems like there are people out there who would utilize it.
If I want to control a mechanism assembly, like an excavator, on screen with a couple of joysticks, how can this be done?
The idea is to test the suitability of mechansims and their controls.
I have many layers of data being FDO / SDF and Native Autocad Layers in the Display Manager which controls the DRAW ORDER. I also have 2-3 XREF's attached which when inserted create a separate layer in the Layer Properties. I am trying to separate these XREF layers from the Map base layer and have a new layer created in the DISPLAY MANAGER for each of the xref''s. I right click in the display manager and go DATA>ADD DRAWING DATA>DRAWING LAYER and select the Xref layers. They successfully get inserted into the DISPLAY MANAGER but when checking them on/off, it doesn't control its display. It appears they are still on the MAP BASE.
View 3 Replies View RelatedProblem: I need to be able to control the size of toolbars (ICON size) via the worspace.
More Details: There is a department in our company that has a very specific function they need to perform in our ACAD drawings.
I created ONE toolbar that has the commands they need and set this toolbar to be the only thing that is displayed in their workspace.
Since it is just one toolbar I thought it would be good for the tool bar to use the large icon setting. But I only need to it to change when when using this one workspace.Other workspaces need to use small icons.
Is there a way to control the icon sizes when switching between workspaces?
How do I control the width of a palette?
ps = New PaletteSet("MyPalette")
ps.Size = New System.Drawing.Size(164, 266)
ps.MinimumSize = New System.Drawing.Size(215, 150)
ps.TitleBarLocation = PaletteSetTitleBarLocation.Left
For some reason changing the Size and MinimumSize doesn't seem to have any impact.
Also..I've been basing a project on the width it allows me but on a lower resolution screen it loads cutting off the right hand segments of the controls.
How do I make the Qleader retain 3 vertices when I stretch the vertices? It's fine if I do not enter any text with the command and then create separate MText, but I'd like to use the command as it's written. However, if I start stretching the endpoints around on the screen, I will end up with extra vertices in the line, and I cannot get rid of them.
View 3 Replies View RelatedWorking in 2012 (but saving to 2007 DWG format), I created an MLEADER text box with a frame and background masking on. Everything seemed to be OK onscreen in 2012. But when we opened the drawing in 2008, the frames did not show on screen or in the plot. Is there a simple way to fix this, e.g., via a system variable?
I’m attaching a test drawing containing an example of said MLEADER. While not new, this is a new technique for us. BTW, the masking part seems to work, though it does not perfectly match the frame.

This is a closed polyline, how can I delete the edge? Is there some sub object selection mode for polylines?

This was the initial situation or problem, two control points lying on eachother, instead of dragging the edge and removing the extra polyline, is there a way to collapse or weld the overlapping elements?

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have an assembly drawing which requires a break in the drawing view due to its height. The drawing view scales accoring to the change in height (so it remains the same physical height on the drawing), however I need to be able to increase/decrease the height (or value) of the break linearly to the height of the assembly.
I had a look at the ilogic 'break sample' and tried to adapt it to my needs, however, i couldnt get it working. I am using Inventor 2012.
For linear features, expand the Advanced settings and specify Fixed to show labels at fixed locations relative to the feature. Select Repeat to repeat the label at intervals along the feature.
Using 3D Map 2012 this is a really great way to handle Labels for Linear Features..but is there a setting that allows the end user to set a Distance or Limit to control the spacing of these lables....?
1) I have assembly containing pipe and a flange. I want flange size to correspond pipe size. In other words, when parametrically change pipe size, flange size to be updated automatically. ( do i need to have two parts - pipe and flange, or it can be one assembly without need to create parts?)
2) Is it possible to control type of flange (slip-on, weld-neck.. etc) by parameters or need to make different assemblies for different flange type?
3) Then when flange and pipe sizes are updated would like to make overall length of that assembly whole number (since hub length changes with the flange size). how to round that overall length to integer?

View 2 Replies View RelatedExploring a new field in LT here, was wondering if it's possible to use a flip-grip kind of parameter to control the scale of an object, kind of like an on/off switch.
In this case I have a straight line that is about 15mm. What I want is to be able to click a grip and it disappears ( scales down ) and when I click it again it reappears ( scales up ).
I know that this is possible through a lookup parameter or just a similar effect with a stretch grip, But I want to be able to just click a grip like the one for Flip and it re/appears.
I've been running into issues in IV 2010 with the shading where I need to show a part in a perspective view on my IDWs and depending on the angle I rotate to the majority of the part is shown in shadow. It's frustrating because I need to show a feature in that particular orientation, but the whole part looks dark.
Especially when I am showing left and right mirrored parts. One side always seems to end up dark. FYI I almost never show the material as a texture map in my part drawings so I use white as the color default because I am simply trying to get across the shape of the part in a shaded 3D view. These don't really serve as renderings to me per say. Is there any way to control the light source direction for custom views in terms of shading? Could I make it more of an ambient light or similar to the Global Light Style in Inventor Studio.
I have a browser display issue that occurrs sometimes when imported parts are inserted into an assembly model. Before dropping some imported parts into my assembly model I changed the filename to something corresponding to our part numbering system. When the part is dropped into the model, the name of the instance displayed in the assembly browser is the same as that originally used by the originator of the model.
I know I can change the name in the browser by editing the name field in the occurrance tab; but I'd need to do this for each instance. What iproperty field (or other property field) should I edit at the part level so that the revised part name is used in the assembly browser whenever that part is inserted into an assembly?
just got my boss to agree today to use cad's dimensions instead of the way he's always done it... which is dimensioning everything (everything!) by hand. Clearly that's just nonsense. But what is important is that I make sure these new autocad dimensions look exactly like the ones we do by hand.
I think I've pretty much got the basics down, I just have one major problem: tick orientation. When doing horizontal dimensions, the ticks run from bottom left to upper right. When doing vertical dimensions, they flip. This would drive my boss nuts... to the extent that I doubt I could get him to buy into this if I can't figure out how to keep the ticks running in the same direction.
I understand I could just dimension with no ticks whatsoever, and then just go copy them in by hand, but that reeks of the old, laborious way of dimensioning... and it really seems like there should be an easy answer to always keeping the ticks running the same way.

I have made a family of weldments. I am having trouble controlling the visibility of the weld symbols when I place one of these members. On some members the welds are shown and on others they are not. I know that I can turn off all the welds (View>Object Visibility> Weld Symbols) but there are other weld symbols in the assembly that I need/want to leave visible. In the image below all three weldments have the same welds, but the weld symbol of only the one is shown when I place it in an iam.
In each member of the iassembly, I have unchecked the visibility under the Welds node, but some are still visible when i place them, so that must not be controlling it. Sure would be good if visibility of welds were controlled by view representation.

I'm trying to figure out where to control the section label sets that are attached to the section "entities" when I create multiple section views. It seems to default to 'standard' for all entities sampled. I have created the section label sets that I would like to use for each entity, eg. subgrade, finished grade etc., but don't know where to select it when sections are created. I can get desired results by selecting each entity in a section view individually, but it's very tedious since I will have over a hundred sections views to show with 3 entities sampled each. These sections were created from sample lines across multiple surfaces and not from a corridor. It seems logical that the section label set would be tied to the section style, but I don't think it is. The only thing the section style seems to control is the layer and a name, it's nearly useless.

I have been off playing in the Inventor world for awhile and now that I am back in the 2D world, I find my memory fails me. I am trying to create a dynamic block for terminal boxes. Some of these boxes are round so I need to control the diameter from the lookup table. Just how do I do that? Placing a diameter constraint parameter gets me the various diameters I need but I cannot get those into the lookup table.
