AutoCAD Inventor :: Unfolding The Tube To Provide Flat Profile?

Sep 23, 2011

I have tube that has been generated on frame generator and notched to run into the side of another tube.

Is there anyway of unfolding the tube to provide a flat profile.

What i ultimately want to do is print the flat pattern off at 1:1 scale, cut it out and wrap it around the actual steel tube to be able to trace the profile onto the tube so i can cut the profile roughly before offering the two tubes together.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Calculating Tube Length (not Tube And Piping)?

Mar 16, 2013

I have a question about calculating the maximum tube length. Why do i ask this, because you can just measure it on drawing?

I'm building a parametric model for building simple storage tanks, and the goal is to get a complete BOM out of the model without any difficulties.

I have 4 possibilities of tube positioning on the tank. (see image)

1. A tube that stands in the center of the axis of the main tank.

2. A tube that stands in the center of the axis of the main tank, but under an angle

3. A tube that doesn't stand in the center of the axis of the main tank.

4. A tube that doesn't stand in the center of the axis of the main tank, but under an angle

These 4 possibilities can be flush with the inside of the tank or not.

Is there a easy way to determinate the longest point from the front of the tube? This longest measurement will be the length i need to get into my description for the BOM.

How do I repair a tubing constraint?

I use tubing in inventor, I always attached tube to whatever fittings I am using and everything is fine but if something gets moved that the end of the tube loses its contraint I'm ready to jump off a cliff!

Is there any way to get the end of the 3D sketch contrained to the fitting again?

Up until now I have always had to deleted the route and started over. Inventor Pro 2014

When I add flat pattern sketch entities to the mix they do not overlay properly.  What matrix would I have to push the sketch entities through to get them to the same coordinates as the flat pattern?

AutoCad 3D :: Dim To Edge Of 3D Tube / Pipe?

Jun 12, 2012

I have made some 3D railings in AutoCAD 2013 and I am trying to dimensionthem, but am having trouble. When I create it I can snap to the center of thepipe, but am unable to snap to the edge anywhere along the pipe. This is anissue because one of the dimensions I need to show is the distance from theground to the top of the railing. When they are verifying everything it's verydifficult to measure to the center of a pipe when it's all welded together, soI need to get the actual edge. I know I can use FLATSHOT and create a 2D viewout of the 3D model, but I am hoping there is a way to do this without havingto convert it. The main use of the 3D view is ease of creating projected andsectional views without having to manually redraw each view.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Tube And Pipe Constraining

May 10, 2013

I'm just getting started using the Tube and Pipe environment for some of my work, and I've got what I'm hoping is a simple question with a simple answer. In the picture attached I've got a 1" pipe dropping down into a 8" pipe which I've disabled because it's a standard part right now and I want to replace it with a tube & pipe run. The thing I seem to have the hardest time doing when routing my pipes is aligning/offsetting my nodes with existing geometry in the assembly. In this case I want the end of the 8" pipe to be 12" offset from the centerline of the 1" pipe, and for the 8" pipe's centerline to be 12" below the bottom of the mezzanine's I-beam (as the standard part it is now). What's the best way to do this in the Tube and Pipe environment?

I tried "Include Geometry" from the "Create" panel but that only lets me create planes, which won't work with offsetting from the 1" centerline. However, SOMETIMES (it's a big sometimes) ALL of the options in the "3D Sketch" tab are available. When that's the case, I can go to the "3D Model" tab and create workpoints, axes, and planes. Sometimes, though, they're not all available, and I'm not able to place anything but planes. How I can change it so I can always use all the geometry of my assembly?

Also I'd like to know if constraing fittings and point-snapping routes to my assembly geometry in this way is the best way to do Tube and Pipe routes. Will doing this allow my routes to update if the assembly changes?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Copy Tube And Pipe Run

Sep 24, 2010

I have just completed an assembly and in this assy. I have a tube and pipe run. The original frame holding this pipe was 1m*1m*2m. We are now building a smaller unit with the same design. The pipe run is exactly the same except for the pipe diameter.

I tried to save as the pipe run to a new name and change pipe diameter but it gives me this error seen below. Do I have to make the whole run again? If i change run I have now to what I need for smaller frame I lose original sizes for first frame size.

Problems encountered while saving the document.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Tube And Pipe ISOGEN Via PCF

Jan 18, 2012

Inventor Tube & Pipe can output ISOGEN files (*.pcf) for manipulation into piping isometrics via 3rd party software. I have done this and the pcf format is very poor on detail that it contains about each fitting. It required hours of manually re-writing the pcf file to get it to produce a result that was "good enough".

The Alias Isogen tool is rubbish - it crashes often, it does not make the changes that one has told it to etc. etc.

I eventually found Autodesk Plant 3D has an amazing piping capability (but it is 2D pretending to be 3D - so it cannot save as parametric solids) - however - it produces great piping isometrics. On studying the pcf from Inventor vs the pcf from Plant 3D for equivalent routes it is clear that Inventor is years behind in their piping functionality.

1. Does Inventor have plans to e.g. make their pcf compatible with Plant 3D so that we can process isometrics in that?

2. Any handy tool to manipulate pcf's to add e.g. welds, supports, notes, insulation, bolts, nipples/sockets/weldolets etc. to produce a comprehensive iso drawing?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Changing Tube Size

Nov 6, 2013

I am having a problem changing my tube sizes. Basically when I create a new route and populate the route, I want to be able to change the size without adding hundreds of sizes to the library. So I right click on the tube and select change size. The when I select a different size and select apply nothing happens? I push update and still nothing happens?

When I try to change the tubing size again it shows the size that I change it to but the tube doesn't visually change? I have noticed the same with the hose. What I also noticed is when you change the size on pipes it does change. How it is possible to change the piping sizes by right clicking on it and select change size when this function doesn't seem to work on the tube and hose?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Best Way To Insert One Tube Into Another Which Has Holes?

Jul 15, 2013

If I have a "large" tube with a series of holes along it, say 9mm diameter...

I have another component (an 8.9mm solid cylinder) which should be inserted in those holes......how is the best way of doing it?

I thought about adding a work axis in each hole, but can't find an easy way of doing even that!So how would you do it?

If I make a hole in a rectangular block it all works out, the toroid appears and I constrain the small 8.9mm to the axis of the hole in the block. That does not seem to work with holes in the large tube.

AutoCad 3D :: Creating Tube Miter Correctly

Mar 9, 2012

To draw the cope end I subtract one tube from the other, this creates a taper from wall thickness t at the intersection of the inner tube face to zero at the intersection of the outer wall face. This loss of wall thickness is not ideal. To get rid of this less than full thickness material I create a slicing plane through intersection of non-cut tube 1 and the inner wall of the tube to be cut, I establish this point by drawing a 2D cross section.

I realize this a bit of a hack and it never works out spot on as the slicing plan never seems to match exactly the intersection point of the 3D tube inner wall.

I have tried to get a work around. i.e. :

- drawing a tube inner radius only subtracting from that then shelling-this only re creates the taper.

-offsetting the intersection edge of the inner wall and trying to project onto outer at 90deg-this does not offset correctly due to the complex geometry.

2. How to create a mitre maintaining full wall thickness. Non 90 degree intersections.
3. How to create a mitre maintaining full wall thickness. Tubes angled in 2 planes i.e. : for triangular space truss.
4. How to create a mitre maintaining full wall thickness. Tubes angled in 2 planes centers lines not coincident ie internal members offset to enable 2/3 to meet at same node.
