AutoCad 3D :: 3D Lines To Surfaces?

Oct 24, 2012

I regularely work with CMS (cavity Monitor Survey) data that is typically provided to me as a collection of triangular 3D faces that represent the interior surface of an open cavity within rock.

These files typically have 30,000 to 80,000 faces.

The last time I requested a survey the consultant indicated that their scanner was out of the country for repairs, but that they could generate a similar model by a different method.

What they did is shot many survey points then manually drew lines between them to give the outward appearance of the the normal deliverable. To the surveyors credit, he drew 3,800 lines to generate this wireframe.

My problem is that I normally have to slice the scans to provide planar outlines to our design engineers... and I can't slice lines.

Any way to generate these surfaces automatically? Is there a lisp out there for this? Essentially I would like to shrinkwrap it.

Working in AutoCAD 2000, but also have MicroStation V8 and MineCAD. MineCAD has a Tessellation function that is partially successful, but tends to join points together incorrectly and "fills" my cavity with random surfaces.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Intersection Lines Between Two Surfaces?

I wonder how to get intersection lines between two surfaces in Civil3D API. It seems that the "MinimumDistBetweenSurfaces" command in Civil3D can do this work. But I can't find corresponding API.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Feature Lines / Surfaces And Object Viewer

Jul 19, 2013

When I use Object Viewer to look at just feature lines and surfaces, the feature lines do not appear at the same elevation as the surface as I shift the view around.  Why is that- especially since I am looking at the surface I created from those same feature lines?

is that a feature, intended to make it easier to discern the feature lines in Object Viewer?  Or a quirk of my video card?

AutoCad :: Create 3D Drawing With White Background - White Surfaces And Black Lines Only

I would like to draw parts in 3d view which look very basic, i.e. out of a book.

Example:

white block with black lines so you can see it is 3d.background should also be white.

How do i set autocad (2012/2013) to do this. I would like the model space to be the same and not just for printing.

How do i get rid of jagged lines?

Circles and diagonal lines look rubbish when i am in hidden view which i use for simple 3d black / white (i think this is the best way?).

I have tried:

- viewres (1000, 5000, 10000, 20000 sightly better)
- regen

See examples.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Surfaces Appear Transparent In DWG

Sep 26, 2011

How to get surfaces in a dwg to display correctly in inventor 2012? (just upgraded after SP1) I keep getting random results. I have a seat from our supplier translated from solid works brought in as a composite (converted in inventor 2011). I have assigned colors to faces and in the part/assembly environment it is fine, as soon as it is in a DWG it goes randomly transparent! Some times it is completely see through and others you get an odd face displaying correctly! Even in different views on the same sheet different faces appear normal.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Volume From Surfaces

Sep 6, 2012

i'm jumping into 3d late in life...playing with volumes. i've created surfaces from aerial surveys and have saved the surfaces as separate files. i would now like to run volumes of the two as they represent the same quarry site from different years. it appears (?) i need to have both surfaces listed in prospector to run volumes. each separate file has its own surface listed. question...how do i get (import?) the second surface drawing into one of the files so i have both listed and can run volumes? i see where i can create a surface from importing a .tin file...but i don't see how to export the surface as a .tin file.

How to get rid of the surface associativity for good, like purging or something like that?

It seems that if it is still in operation it is adding extra size to the drawings...

AutoCAD Inventor :: Revolve Between Surfaces

May 16, 2012

I am attempting to revolve a sketch between two surfaces in Autodesk Inventor Professional 2012. The problem is that the extrusion is being created on the opposite side of the two surfaces that I want.

For example, I have two flanges on a cylinder. I would like the feature to be created to stretch on the lower side, the larger angle, where the sketch is. Instead, it is creating the feature on the upper side, the smaller angle.

I have adjusted everything I can within the revolve feature options, including unchecking "minimum solution" and switching the starting and terminating faces.

In the attached file I am attempting to revolve "Sketch 7" about the x-axis, between the two flanges closest to the "top." The sketch is centered on where I want the revolved feature to be created.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Surfaces Are Not Updating

Feb 5, 2013

I am having a problem with my data shortcuts for my surfaces not updating. I have 2 surfaces (one ex and one prop) both are on auto-rebuild.  Both of them are in separate files and data short cutted into my profiles files (I have one for water, one sewer and a third for storm drains). Any time I make a change whether I add or subtract data the file the data does not update in the profiles. As a work around I have been creating a new data short cut and adding it to my profiles files. What am I doing wrong that would make them not update?

AutoCad 3D :: Transfer Different Surfaces To Same Plane

Jun 2, 2012

I'm making a car model on autocad 3d and I have to make all of its differents surfaces flatten on a same plane (similar to papercrafting). I must get the "real sizes and dimensions" of all rectangles and triangles that compounds my model.

This is about 20 differents planes defined by the lines of the car. The idea of this project is to make it possible to build the car from a printed paper.

Ive tried to use UCS making the "new xy" plan on the diferents surfaces but it would take like a day to make this in the whole model. I've also tried rotating the surfaces, but inst accurate enough.

The car is not yet solid; I just used the normal line commands. I'm plannig to use 3DFACE to create all the surfaces.

The only thing I could come up with was to define various UCS and then use 3DALIGN with a previous rectangle made on the WCS. But this is not very efficient.

Any way to "transfer" the differents surfaces to a same plane so that I can get the "real dimensions" (the real area, line sizes) of them? I'm not sure being clear enough..

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Creating Two Surfaces Do Not Interact

Jun 14, 2013

I'm trying to create a surface under my 'existing ground' surface. There is shallow rock where one of our projects is located and using geotechnical data I want to create a 'rock surface' at the known rock elevations. I just want this surface for visual reasons and do not want it to interact with the existing ground or pipe network.

I have 4 places along the roadway where I know the rock elevations. I created new points around each known point with the same elevation so there would be more than just four points on the surface and so I could make it the width of the road allowance. But when I look back to my profile of the road, it shows the existing profile drop to the rock surface at each place that I created points for the rock elevation. Not sure how to make it so the existing ground surface doesn't pick up the new points I added for the rock elevations.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Defining Surfaces And / Or Materials - BOM

Jan 24, 2013

I have successfully opened a STEP file from our Engineering group and saved it away as an Inventor Assembly. I would like to define Materials and/or Surface finishes for all parts. Why wouldn't the Surfaces and Materials synchronize between the Styudio's Surface Creator and the BOM Materials Control in the Assembly area?

I have found the way to define a new Surface in the "Inventor Studio" Interface and saved it with a unique name. Now, I would like to assign that Surface as a Material to the parts in the assembly ... and of course I would like to define numerous other surfaces and materials for assignment to all the parts throughout the assembly. Finally, I would like these surfaces / materials to follow the model into Showcase for presentation purposes.
