AutoCAD Print / Plot :: Changing Printable Area Changes Paper Output Size?

Sep 28, 2010

Using an HP 1050c Plus with the latest HP drivers for Windows XP on AutoCAD MEP 2009.  If I use the standard printer margins it all works fine, except that the margins are way too big and no border we have will print without cutting off at least .25" all around.  If I go to properties and change the margins to .1" all around, my 42x30 sheets will print out with 43" of paper.  If I make them .25", I will get 42.5" of paper.  I just started at this company and have never had this problem before with an HP 1050 plotter.  I have tried different combinations of the Extend margins, Inked area and autorotate checkboxes but haven't been able to figure it out yet.

AutoCAD Print / Plot :: Objects Outside Printable Area

Is there a setting that you can turn on that will ignore objects (texts, lines, ect.) that are outside the printable area? If objects are to be placed "outside the box" my titleblock  gets inadvertently shifted until the objects are deleted?

AutoCAD Print / Plot :: Paper Size Filtering

Oct 19, 2011

I'm having a problem making paper size filtering 'stick'.

For years I've configured PC3 and their associated PMP files for each of our printers and plotters. As a part of the configuration, I filter out all the paper sizes we don't use. Once the PC3 and PMP files are configured, they're copied to all the local PC's. I've never had a problem with this, until now.

On the PC where the PC3 file is configured, the filtering is correct. On any other PC, various paper sizes are added. For instance, I'll filter out all paper sizes on printer "X" except for 8.5x11 and 11x17. On a similar PC, the paper sizes "16k 197x273mm" and "8k 273x394mm" are added.

If I point the PC's to a location on our network where the PC3 and PMP files are stored, I get the same results.

We have two OS's here - Win7 Pro and XP Pro. All OS's are kept up-to-date. All the Win7 PC's use the same version of the HP Universal Print Driver. All the XP PC's use the same version of the printer specific drivers.

AutoCad :: Change Printable Area Of Custom Paper Sizes

Mar 21, 2012

Trying to change the printable area of custom paper sizes?

I've plotter that allows me to create 5 custom paper sizes for each pc3 file, however after create them, i cant always access to change their printable area, you know adjusting their margins, and the strange thing is that this error doesn’t happen all the time, sometimes after a while trying they work, but just for a couple of times, after that the problem remains.

autocad.png

To be more clear, you can see on the image that it doesn’t recognize the custom paper size i have selected, however it works from time to time, allowing me to edit those margins, and after save them, they work just fine and i can use those paper sizes with no problems.

I've tried to edit the pc3 file through windows, and a message appears saying that an unknown error has occurred.

AutoCAD Print / Plot :: Publishing To PDF Goes To Wrong Paper Size?

Aug 20, 2013

I have layouts set to print to a printer in the office, sometimes with different sized sheets. Everything worked perfect until we upgraded from Civil 3d 2013 to 2014. Where I'm gettin a problem now is publishing to PDF. It will cut off the left and right margins of the 11x17 sheets. I've tried everything and looked everywhere but can't keep it from doing that.

Is there anywhere to set the publish to PDF settings? I've played with the DWG to PDF.pc3 settings and no change.

AutoCAD Print / Plot :: Multi Sheet Plotting To Smaller Paper Size

Oct 8, 2013

This is an issue for which no one in my office has any solution.  We create all of our plan sets on E1 size paper. However, when we plot them for redlines we print to C-size to save paper. I know you can "publish selected layouts" to plot numerous tabs at a time. However, I am unable to figure out how to make them plot to a smaller size paper than what the page is set up for. Is there a way to plot all of the tabs at a smaller scale without plotting each tab individually?

We just recently upgraded to AutoCad 2014.

AutoCad :: Border Size - Printable Area Right Scale

May 18, 2011

I set a border up to be 24"x36" and it appears to be slightly outside the dotted lines for paper space when I x-ref it in. I also noticed on my plots that 3'-0" is measuring close to 3'-1" which means I have screwed something up.

I have the plot settings set to "Extents", "1:1" and I am using the Cute PDF plot driver.

Instead of creating a border that is 24"x36" do I need to create one that is exact to the printable area to make it the right scale? Not sure what the printable area is or how I figure it out though. Lost.

AutoCAD Print / Plot :: Can't Rotate Plot To Fit Paper

Aug 3, 2009

I am trying to print a tall, thin window, auto-scaled to fit on 11x17 paper using a Windows PC3 driver. I want the image to be essentially 17" tall. No matter what paper orientation I choose in the printer Properties (Portrait or Landscape), the image is rotated automatically the wrong direction. (The print preview shows the paper rotated as Portrait or Landscape correctly, but the image is always rotated to fit the 11" dimension of the paper). I'm using AutoCAD Electrical 2008.

AutoCAD Print / Plot :: Different Output With Same Page Setup

Jul 11, 2013

I have created a bunch of Page Setups (for both Paper and PDF) that work great when plotting from the plot menu. Lately, I've convinced my people to start using the sheet set manager and the publish command. However, on some computers, (not mine) plotting (to PDF) from the Publish dialog box outputs a file that seems to ignore the page setup. Using the very same Page Setup, the file comes out perfectly when plotting from the regular Plot menu. I don't understand how:

1- I get the same result with both methods on my computer (the one used to create all those page setups);
2- I get page setup to apply perfectly on my computer;
3- I get the expected result on the problematic computers when using Plot;
4- But I get different results on the problematic computer when using Publish.

*Note: In the publish dialog box, I use "Publish to: Plotter named in page setup" and then I select the wanted page setup for all my selected layouts in the list. My page setups are using "DWG to PDF.pc3", so the "plotter named in page setup" in all cases should be "DWG to PDF".

I've been doing tests with PDF files set on A1 format (841mmX594mm) and the output is perfect on my computer. Then on another computer, strangely, I get a PDF with these dimensions: 863.6mmX558.8mm (34"x22"). On the second computer, doing the very same steps, I get 431.8mmX279.4mm (17"x11"). Three computers, three different outputs with three different values. One works, two miss. I'm stoked.

Keep in mind that all three computers output perfect files when using the standard plotting menu (using the same page setups) so I doubt the page setups are incorrect. Does the Publish command deal differently with page setups than the plot command ? I would have assumed that both commands would react the same. I 'd like my team to be able to batch plot like I can on my computer.

AutoCAD Print / Plot :: How To Make TIFF Output Higher Than 100 Dpi

Oct 22, 2012

Our local agency has come up with a requirement that CAD-generated drawings be submitted to them as 200 dpi TIF files, of between 300kb and 900kb. They do not accept dwg, dwf, or even pdf.

When we create a new plotter in AutoCAD, using any of the raster file formats, setup for the format only allows 100dpi. You can create larger numbers of pixels, 1024x768 vs 1600x1200, for example, but that is not translating into higher resolution.

We have tried the route of printing to pdf, then converting to TIF, but the file sizes are coming out far too large.

If we are unable to find a solution, I guess we can always print to hardcopy and then scan to tif. In 1996 I would have been happy to do that, but not now.

Our specific version of AutoCAD is AutoCAD Civil 3D 2013, but I am sure this is more a generic AutoCAD issue.

I am trying to plot  a layout sheet 24'' W x 18" H. The frame on my sheet is 22''W x 16''L (inside the dash lines limits we see on the layout). I believe I prepare the print correctly:

- Select the printer (HP DESIGN JET PS)
- I use the window fonction to select the printable area ( left upper corner and then the opposite corner).
- Select Paper size Arch C (landscape)
- Paper orientation: Lansdcape

The preview shows that the upper and bottom lines of my frame will not print, and they do not, even if I try (see the attachement below).

Is this a driver problem?

AutoCAD Print / Plot :: Plotter Prints DWGs Sideways - Wastes Paper

Oct 24, 2012

I made an attempt at drawing out what I'm trying to say in MSPaint. At my office we use an HP Designjet 800ps to plot our drawings, most everyone uses AutoCAD 2010-2011 and I use AutoCAD LT 2010. All of our drawings are ANSI C size (17"x22") and we use paper rolls that are 24" wide x 150' long. For some reason our plotter always prints our drawings sideways causing us (read 'me, the assistant') to have to trim the excess off of every single print. Not only is this time consuming but it is a huge waste of paper! If I can get it to rotate we will get 19 MORE plots out of every roll of paper!!!

I was wondering if there is some way to change settings somewhere so that our drawings are printed the correct way, saving me lots of time and saving our company lots of paper? Is it normal to plot this way?
