AutoCAD .NET :: Read DWG Extents
Jul 1, 2011
I would like to make windows service (.NET C#), which would watch directory changes and read dwg extents, if file extension was .dwg.
Is this possible to make on machine, where autocad isn't installed?

In AutoCad 2012, when I double click my mouse and zoom extents the UCS changes to about 20 degrees off of the default vert/horz cardinal directions planes. If I change my UCS back to world it is all good again, although when I zoom extents it goes back to the 20 degrees off cardinal planes.
I don't normally use a UCS other than the default, so it is probably a stupid question, although how do I stop it from doing this?

If you attach a shapefile through "Connect to Data" and try to zoom to extents by right clicking on the shapefile under "Task Pane" it zooms to a different location. The shapefile and drawing PRJ is in LL84. It works in Civil3D2010 but not in 11 or 12. I have Service pack 3 installed. Why?

I have created a new database: Database newDb = new Database(true, true) Inserted a block into modelspace and now I want to zoom extent before saving.
Can this be done working on a new database in memory? all the examples I have seen on this board use Interop on a open document.

I have an intermittent problem, in ACLt '06.
On certain drawings, when I double-click in viewports that aren't locked they will zoom to extents, even when they have been set up to a certain scale.
The annoying thing is, not only does it zoom the selected viewport, it zooms every other unlocked viewport in the layout.
Does that make sense? and more importantly, how do I stop it from doing this?

I have some users that use Solid Viewer that I am cosidering switching to Inventor LT. I use Inventor Pro. There is a feature in SolidWorks that let's them quickly display the overall extents; length, width, and height for quoting purposes. The tool creates a transparent box around the 3D model and displays these dimensions.

I am able to get the drawing extents in the database but just fine except that when I draw objects in paper space and the extents decrease the properties Pextmax and Pextmin do not change accordingly. When I make objects larger everything is fine, I capture the change just fine. Where else to look or if there is a method to update this properly?

Is there an easy way to get the geometric extents of a profile view and bands? It appears that in Civil 3D 2013 .NET the Geometric Extents returns the extents of the profile excluding the bands. I don't like the prospects of either doing the math for all of the bands assigned to the profile view or exploding the profile view to get it and the bands as a block and getting the extents that way. My C3D 2013 just started doing this last week... I first noticed that it would zoom to extents when I operated the center mouse button for panning. It was random, about 1 out of every 15 to 20 pans using the center button.
But then I noticed that it's not just the panning. It will randomly zoom to extents when I type in a command. Earlier today, it did it when I did a REGEN, then again when I did a MAPWSPACE.
The other notable thing is that there is no "zoom" command anywhere in the command history when this occurs.
Besides changing the mice, I also tried rebooting and running a repair on C3D. I have Win7-64.
The problem seems to coincide with when I started using Autodesk 360. Not saying it's related, but it's fishy.

I have unfolded a 3D model into a flat plate, however the bend lines/extents do not appear in ISO.dwg
I doubled clicked into the view to access 'Display Options'. However, I cannot tick the box to display bend extents as this option is shaded out (refer to attached screen dump).

I am using IV ultimate 2013
just found about this add-in:[URL]
But its not working for me:
I ran the installer, created a sheet metal part and hit rebuild all, it did not create any proeprties, also tried to manually create the properteis then hit rebuild, no go.
I also did a search on my hardrive for the ApplicationPlugins, and placed the sheet metal folder in all of them(there were 3) tried again noto.
The add-in also does not appear in the add-in manager.
Or is there different what to get the flat pattern dimensions in 2013

I'm currently marking up some electrical items on a building plan.
At present, when I enter the zoom | extents command, the entire drawing is represented as a microdot in the bottom left corner of the screen.
I assume that upon entering the zoom | extents command, my drawing should appear centred on the screen and zoomed such that the entire drawing fills the screen.
Do I need to move the drawing origin? Do I need to rescale?

When I use Zoom Extents, my map becomes a tiny dot near the edge of model space. This happens will all of my drawings and they are not "zooming" to the same area in model space. One might be a tiny dot hidden in the left corner under the geomarker and the next might be in the upper right corner 1/4" in size.

When you create your own template part file and change the "Initial View Extents" setting in Document Settings on the Modelling Tab. Does this affect the behavior of the initial view extents when re-opening a part file created from this template?
FYI - I recently created a new template part file so that the sketch gridline spacing was more relevant to the size of parts I create. I like to use gridlines while in sketch mode because it is a good visual indicator that I'm in sketch mode. On opening a new part file that referenced to my new template, I noticed that the initial view extents meant only a couple of gridlines were visible due to the zoom level. I therefore tweaked my template file by increasing the initial view extents by a factor of 4 (400mm x 200mm).
The problem now is when opening a part file created from this template, the zoom level seems to snap to the customised view extents and not to the physical extents of the part. Right clicking the View Cube and re-setting the "Fit to View" has no effect. This feature seems broken now that I use modified initial view extents.

Using Full Autocad 2013, no extensions.I have a directory full of 25 drawings, P&ID's to be exact. I've done all the drafting on them, and I need to publish the set. I used to publish them 24x36 to our plotter, but we have started sending out large plot jobs, so I need to publish to PDF. This normally isn't a problem at all. I set up the first drawing's layout tab to print. Everything is good. Preview it, all is good.
I open the publish box, add all the drawings layouts, use the page setup from the first drawings layout, select publish to PDF, set them to go to my normal folder, and publish. The drawings all publish, and everything is correct except that they all, instead of centering on the page, they center horizontally but go to the bottom of the sheet vertically. So I have a two inch margin on the top of the drawing and .5 inch or so on the bottom. I'm assuming this means that the publish can't find the drawing extents (we use plot to extents, center plot). So I go into all the drawings, zoom extents in all the layouts, and still it publishes the same.
Is there a variable I'm missing? If I plot just one it works and the plot is dead center of the page, publish more than one and it doesn't work.

Once you have multiple layout tabs its very easy to zoom in on a tab make some changes jump to another tab zoom in make some more changes, then save the dwg.
You then open the drawing to say plot and have to zoom e the layout as a glance to see if its correct, etc.
So I wrote this tiny lisp that will very quickly zoom extents on all layout tabs and then I would normally save.
; goes through all layout tabs and zooms all
(vl-load-com)
(command "_.pspace")
(setq curtab (getvar "Ctab"))
(setq this_dwg (vlax-get-acad-object))
(foreach d (layoutlist)
(setvar "CTAB" d)
(vla-ZoomExtents this_dwg)
)
(setvar "ctab" curtab)
(princ)

When I use the exportpdf command from within a layout, the resulting PDF is off-center. In the autocad layout, it appears centered within the layout, but when exported it's shifted down and to the left by about half an inch. I can resolve this by changing my page setup from plotting LAYOUT to WINDOW and creating my own extents, however I would like to understand why exportpdf isn't handling layout extents correctly.
When I plot to pdf using Adobe PDF as my plot device, I get the correct layout extents, but when I use the exportpdf command, the layout extents are not correct.

I am having some difficulty figuring out how to get the extents to a civil 3d label object. I want to be able to select a label, and draw a custom polyline around it (in dragged state) and draw a leader or multiple leaders from that new polyline. I just can't seem to figure out how to get at the label data itself.

I am drawing ordinate dimensions in blocks and then I am getting the geometric extents of these blocks, if the block contains the dimension, the extents are much larger than expected. What may be the cause?
See the attached drawing, the lines are connecting geometric extents MinPoint and MaxPoint. For the blocks that don't have dimension in them, the extents are correct.

Every example I've seen for writing a .NET version of ZOOMEXTENTS shows the Document.Database being updated with UpdateExt(true). why, after executing this line, my Extmin and Extmax values remain unchanged?
My process is something like this:
* Inside Drawing1.dwg
* Make sure I'm in Paper Space (which contains a 36x24 border)
* Zoom Extents -- At this point, my code attempts to do a SetCurrentView using the new ViewTableRecord and I get an an eNullObjectPointer exception.
I'm assuming the exception is because the HUGE or maybe ununderstood extents (the defaults are (-1E+20, -1E+20, -1E+20))... why the Extmin and Extmax aren't updating
