AutoCAD Map 3D :: Identify Map Features By Clicking In 2012
Sep 19, 2011
I am using Autodesk Map Enterprise 2012 on Windows 7 Prof Win 64 bit laptop with 4GB RAM.I successfully imported OS MasterMap of UK for the City of Reading from a ShapeFile set to British National Grid using Data>>Connect. I am not using any of the Infrastructure Models. I used the Properties (pr) command to see the details associated with an object. These are the problems i came across:
a) The pr command lists exhaustive details of a map feature - Object layer, line style thickness, etc and also displays the attribute details. Is it possible to display only the map attributes by suppressing the associated AutoCAD related details of the object?
b) While the display of map features on the screen is very fast, it takes about 3 seconds to query every feature and i can see the query window getting slowly refreshed(i.e window getting repainted). Does Map 2012 make use of shape file indexes to retrieve the features? The same SHP file when used in ArcGIS ArcMap 10 (in the same system) takes NO time to retrieve attributes as i keep clicking the objects using the Identify tool. It is instantaneous. Am i missing something? I exported this data to SDF format and tried the same but it continues to take 2-3 seconds.
c) Is it possible to give column aliases for all the columns in a Shapefile ?
d) Can i selectively decide which columns to display to the end user? I have about 20+ columns and i do not want to show all the columns?
e) Finally, when i use the pr command, i have to click on an object which in turn selects it. Immediately, Map 12 puts resize handles on all the vertices of the object. I find this to be a bit annoying. Can i query i.e use Identify features WITHOUT selecting those features? I just want Map12 to display the associated details without selecting or showing the resize handles?

I have the layers tab open in my toolbox, so I can see all the layers listed. I'm wondering if there is a fast way to find a layer. I'd like to click on my image and (ideally) see the layer highlighted in the toolbox, so I don't have to search for it.

In 2010 and previous releases I recall being able to show the feature dimension by right clicking "Show Dimensions" and then being able to double click on any visible dimension and change its value. I don't see this behavior in 2012. Is there a setting to turn this on?

I'm zoomed in and am creating acomplex freehand selection. I'm now selecting stuff at the very top ofthe canvas, and I happen to miss a bit and touch the 'ruler'. Suddenly,GIMP switches to the move tool and I've lost the whole selection! How this behaviour can be turned off?
(I know I can turn off the rulers, but it's annoying having to turn themoff and on all the time since they are sometimes useful.)
Is there a way to make rulers be off by default when I start Gimp? Iknow it's just a matter of clicking ctrl+shift+r, but that's easy to saywhen you've just lost a huge, painstakingly made selection …

I have to insert a block in a paerspace layout if it is not already present in that layout. I tried the following function to identify the presence of the block.
But it returns true even if the block is not present in the particular layout but is present in another layout.
private bool checkBlockPresence()
{
try
{
Autodesk.AutoCAD.EditorInput.Editor ed = Autodesk.AutoCAD.ApplicationServices.Application.DocumentManager.MdiActiveDocument.Editor;
[code]........
Also I am using the following function to make the particular layout active before calling the above function.
public void SwitchTo(string Layout)
{
Autodesk.AutoCAD.ApplicationServices.Document acDoc = Autodesk.AutoCAD.ApplicationServices.Application.DocumentManager.MdiActiveDocument;
Autodesk.AutoCAD.DatabaseServices.Database acCurDb = acDoc.Database;
using (Autodesk.AutoCAD.ApplicationServices.DocumentLock doclock = acDoc.LockDocument())
[code].......
So my code is similar to
SwithTo("A3")
if(checkBlockPresence() == false) // this always returns true.
{
---------
}

Any way to easily identify what labels structures use? I have a plan and profile drawing drawing with 15 diferent layouts. Another guy worked on it and edited the contents on one of the profile structure labels. So now I'm going to have to go through each layout and looking for what structure labels would have been changed. Typicaly if there is a slight difference in the callout for one structure I'll just edit the label text for that one particular structure.
I would like to select (sweep) all the structures in profile and see which ones would have used this particular label style.

I did a course a few months ago and the teacher said something about how you can draw a solid and tell it to convert it to RHS (for example) by clicking on the edge and using a tool. I can't quite remember it, and can't find the tool to use either- very frustrating. I hope this makes sense- if it doesn't I'll try more of an example.
Extrude a profile to be a 1m2 cube. Identify that the four top edges and four vertical edges are 25mm RHS and this new object becomes the base and legs to a really simple, boring table. If that doesn't make sense I'll have to try again.

I work with bridges and get xrefs from our road designers containing hundreds of layers. I'd like to point at an object in these xrefs and get the layer name. Is there a simple way to do this? The way the LAYFRZ-command works, freezing a single layer, I figure ACAD should be able to just return the layer name instead. Does this functionality exist?

My coworker who does not have AutoCAD is trying to find text in a 250 page PDF that I am 98% sure came directly from a DWG. When we search for the text in the basic search command in Acrobat Pro we get nothing. Is there a way for Acrobat to identify the text or mtext as characters, not pixels again and search within those pages to find the text? And yes, it does occur at least twice in the doc that we have noticed.
I'm on Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro and he is on Adobe Acrobat 11 Pro. I have AutoCAD 2013 MEP.

I'm looking for a way to simply get a flowline elevation at some random point along a pipe (Network) in plan view without having to go through the trouble of "drawing Parts in Profile".
I have successfully added invert elevations at the ends of the pipe, but that's not what I'm looking to do & "ID" command shows the "Z" elevation for pipes in pipe networks to be "0".

The Canon 6D produces HDR photos from 3 intermediate pictures, and it discards the intermemdiates. The exif data on Lightroom (5) does not seem to identify the HDR photos, and I cannot find any other way to get Lightroom to identify HDR photos. The HDR photos are generally recognizable, visually, but it would still to have Lightroom identify them.
