AutoCAD Map 3D :: ESRI Information Into DWG
Oct 9, 2012
Client is using straight up AutoCAD.
Wants to bring ESRI information into a DWG (actual data not just linework).
I know MAP and C3D does this with no problems and you can go open the file in AutoCAD. Problem is the data is not visible when you open it in AutoCAD. Switch back to C3D or MAP and you can see it again.
Just want to make sure I cover all resources before I tell them it can't be done without scripting something for AutoCAD.

I am a AutoCad drafter for telecommunications and I have utility pole points (long/lats)
I can insert the poles via long/lat and all is great, my issue is I would like more information in those points.
For example, pole number, class, HOA, Make Ready. Currently I create a survey data store and import ASCII Points using PNE(comma delimited)
So with my Excel file (this is where I get my pole information from) I get a point/northing/easting to enter into the formatting section.
I would like to add more information to these individual points, like ploe number, class, HOA...
If I view the point table I see that there are a lot of other columns, can I use them or customize them? is there a quick tutorial on this issue?

I'm working with many geometry like closed polylines, mpolygons and topology; in all cases, exporting to esri shp, 95% of exported geometry has a kickback point (always first and last point).
Doing map clean solve the problem in the dwg file, but the issue come back again when export.

I've got a drawing that shows the site boundary for a planning application, its just a polyline drawn round xref mapping. A client wants us to export this to a shapefile, or as ESRI format I've heard (its all a bit vague). I believe they want to have it as a Mapinfo layer.
The client has sent through some 'instructions' that are I've never even heard of ESRI format before.

I am currently using AutoCad Map3d 2013. I am trying to export some features to esri shape file. When I use the export command it does not export all the features, only a few of them. I tried each different way point, line, polygon (treat closed polylines as polygons). I just did this the other day and worked out fine.

I'm new (again) to using AutoCAD and am a GIS user. I just wanted to know if there was a way to import an ESRI shapefile (.shp extension) into AutoCAD 2011. This is the only version I have and don't really have any extensions with it. Can I do this or do I need different software?

We maintain most of our GIS data in either personal (.mdb) or file (.gdb) geodatabases. I have AutoCAD Map 3D 2012 and want to be able to connect to these geodatabases. Where can I find the FDO provider to connect to these types of geodatabases and what is the process for updating the providers list for AutoCAD?

Using GPS Pathfinder to export to shapefile to load into AutoCAD. I've done it before, but I messed up the Pathfinder software this time. Using Pathfinder version 4.20
Opened Pathfinder, went Utilities (top tool bar)...Export and the Export popup came up. Then accidently deleted "Sample ESRI shapefile" from the "Choose an Export Setup" drop down list. Clicked the New button at the bottom. Selected a new ESRI shapefile set up, clicked ok.
What do I enter in the Export Setup Properties tabs? (tabs are Position Filter, Coord. System, ESRI Shapefile, Data, Output, Attributes, Units) What were the values in the original "Sample ESRI shapefile?". I tried not entering anything...the points can be exported to a shapefile, the shapefile can be loaded into AutoCAD map but there is no coordinate system (even if coordinate systems is edited in AutoCAD) so the points are always shown at (0,0).
Also tried uninstalling Pathfinder on my computer and then using the original CD to reinstall. Still not showing Sample ESRI Shapefile after reinstalling. How does the CD not reinstall clean? Have turned the computer off and on between deleting and reinstalling.

At present I am needing to export a large number of ESRI shape files from AC Map 2011 for use in a GIS application. I know that Map 3D has the export features but after completing 50 exports its does get repetitive and is time consuming.
Is there any way of specifying the name or names of the layers you wish to export and apply attributes to them without having to use the Map 3D Export process?

I am not an ESRI user... strictly in the Map World, so I dont know..
Do ESRI shapefiles store layer color? If yes, can this be harnessed and remembered upon Map Import?
I have always just changed the ACAD layers upon import, but I have a client who is trying to import hundreds of layers and says that changing their colors would be incredibly time consuming, yet if he imports these files into ESRI, they remember what color their layer is supposed to be.

I am transforming water system components from Autocad dwg files (created in Civil 3d 2013 I think) to a personal (or file) geodatabase in ArcGIS 10.1. I am not familair with using Civil 3d.
I would like to know if there is some way I can export (as ESRI shapefile) AECC alignment objects (waterlines) as lines/polylines and preserve associated data (flow direction and station label info) as field attributes associated with the lines/polylines. I am not sure if there is elevation data associated with the alignments, but would want to preserve that data too if it is available.
Currently working with water system asset inventory mapping and geodatabase design
using Autocad Map 3d 2014 on Windows 7
using ESRI ArcGIS 10.1 on Windows 7
using ArcGIS 10.2 on Windows 8.1

I have a Civil3D file with Drawing Settings = WGS84 UTM-Zone44 North Map3D coordinate system = WGS84 UTM-Zone44 North a USGS DEM from HYDROsheds data set (tile = N40E80) also note this DEM is a folder of multiple ADF files when using FDO provider the DEM comes in just fine but it lands in the wrong location thousands of kilometers away.
When I load the same shape files into ArcMAP10 with spatial reference as WGS84 UTM-Zone44 North everything lines up perfectly.
The header prj.adf file is this:
PROJECTION GEOGRAPHIC
UNITS DD
DATUM WGS84
PARAMETERS
so how do I make it come into Map3D correctly?

As the heading says - my Map 3d 2011 rearranges object data fields upon import. If I open the coverage in ArcMAP they are in one order (the correct order), and importing to Map mixes that order up. I have around 125 object data fields for each of 2700 objects. Even if the capability existed in Map, rearranging back to the proper order "by hand" is not an option. Is there a setting or something I overlooked that will tell Map to import the data fields in the same order that they are in before the import?

I want to create an application that intensively uses dynamic blocks, cross checking any new or changed block entity with existing ones.
It needs to be almost instantaneous but the only way I know will be impractical.
Looping through the property collection of each block reference, searching for each parameter then checking for a match.
Is there some sort of database functionality I can use to quickly compare block information?

I have a problem importing text information from shp file to dwg. Using a command “Add to Map” I can see that shape file consists of Map Feature(s) objects and under Feature Properties there is an information that I need to move to Autocad environment (IGDS_TXT_;TEXTSTRING; TEXT_ANGLE). I’ve tried “mapimport” command but in result I’ve got only acad point objects with no information in it.

Since we switched to AutoCAD 2010 we have been having trouble with things disappearing when we plot to PDF. I can not find a pattern with the things that are missing (i.e., area on page, layer, linetype, etc.). When I do a plot preview everything appears the way it should and then after the PDF is made items are missing. Typically after a couple of trys of rePDFing the drawing everything appears and works fine. I am using Vanilla AutoCAD 2010 and Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro.

I want to add a sort of legend / information box to my drawings, in a manner where it can remain constant and in the same place every time I print but I can edit the information therein. I guess that means making up a template, but I'm stuck beyond that.
Having robbed this picture from the Google image search:
I want to make that table at the top. Maybe add a company logo, the title, scale, author, etc. I'm sure you know the score. But I was hoping I could do it in such a way where I've only got to draw it once and all future drawings I can simply edit the specifics and add it to all drawings, regardless of size or scale.
I normally draw things with a pencil and drawing board and believe me during this learning process there have already been too many times where I'm tempted to go back!

once I've set an origin, how do you get the geometry info in the properties to show the coordinates from that origin? what I want to do is set an origin and then find relative points from that origin. What are the ways to do this? On ProgeCad I would just set an origin and then if I viewed the properties of say a circle, it would tell me the x,y,z coordinates from that origin but I can't seem to do it in AutoCad.
As you can see from the picture, what I did was set an origin at the on point. Then I selected the arc for which I want to know the coordinates. But as you can see in the properties it says the x,y are like 566,567mm, but clearly if I draw lines to that point and measure the lines it is only like 1.00,0.70mm.

When I export an .las file, I loose the contents from the description column. Is there a way to retain this information? I periodically update a drawing prepared by a different department that includes up to +500 layers. I would like to include descriptive information as part of the layer state that includes directions how to change/modify individual layers. Can this information/tags be saved directly in the .las file? Is there a different method to do this, short of preparing a separate spreadsheet?

I've found a number of articles outlining the process of extracting data from AutoCAD to an Excel file, but I'm wondering if it's possible to do the reverse. For my work I have a number of databased already established in Excel and am able to create information tables rather quickly that access these databases. Currently, after creating a table in Excel I then copy, paste, scale to the right size in AutoCAD.
There's gotta be a way to create a table in AutoCAD that simply accesses this information in Excel and just updates automatically. I produce a number of CAD drawings off of a template daily so this process has become quite the bottleneck.

I tried to get the XML-Information of a weld. But the string that should contain this information is empty. Did I make a mistake?, or is this feature not supported by Inventor 2014 anymore. Even the helping page "More XML Weld Info..." doesn't exist anymore and leads to an error.
This is my VBA-Code to show the XML-Info string for each weld within the assembly in a message box:
Sub WeldInfo()
'is the active document an assembly?
If ThisApplication.ActiveDocument.DocumentType <> DocumentTypeEnum.kAssemblyDocumentObject Then
Return
End If

if there is a way to get detailed file information. I'm teaching a course this quarter and need to review about 300 dwg files/week for homework and labs. Obviously, cheating is a major issue (copying other files). Students are getting a bit more clever and can get around windows data (accessed/modified/created stamps). I think AutoCAD has more detailed information related to the dwg file that I can extract to compare files.

What i want to do is popluate a Listbox with with the area of previously selected Objects. This is what i have at the moment:
i = 0ListBox1.ColumnCount = 2For Each ssetOBJ In sset objarea = ssetOBJ.Area i = i + 1 With ListBox1 .AddItem .List(.ListCount - i, 0) = "Fläche" .List(.ListCount - i, 1) = objarea End With Next.
But the code only writes the area of the last Object in the first Row of the Listbox.I think in the FOR EACH Expression the variable "i" pass always "1" for the Row Number.
