AutoCAD LT :: Xref Layers Disappearing In Both Model And Layouts
Nov 30, 2012I've been experiencing an odd problem with Xref's lately in AutoCAD 2006LT. I noticed that some of the layers in my viewports are missing. I have unloaded the xref, purged the drawing and reloaded the xref and each time it comes back up missing the majority of the layers in the external reference. I've checked to make sure that there are no xref's associated with the xref file to ensure that it's not an issue with a sub xref as well. I have downloaded a trial copy of 2013 and it mentions unreconciled layers and shows all layers in the view ports. In my troubleshooting I've checked for frozen layers, layers turned off, the location of Xref'ed files, ensured that no xref’s are on frozen or turned off layers and several other possible problems.
What seems strange to me is that I can see a few layers but not all layers associated with the xref in AutoCAD 2006LT. I've also checked to make sure that the layers are not frozen in the viewport as well. I use that feature often and depend on it for the drawing that I do.
If I start a drawing from scratch or go back several generations I can see all the layers just fine. It only seems to affect the latest generation of this current projects files.

Dec 9, 2011I'm creating/selecting plot settings and apply them to my layouts.
The problem is when I open the plot dialog, the name of the page setup is not displayed. when I select the page setup name just created from the combobox, the setup is applied but the name still missing.
But this issue only combined with the new plot settings created in program. The existing page setups manually added from plot dialog are ok.The difference between the two type of plot settings is the .ISMODIFIED property is true for new settings but false for existing settings.
How can I make the plot settings not modified.

Jul 4, 2013We have some heavy drawings with many layouts. Each layout contains multiple viewports. It takes up to 10-15 minutes to switch layout. When we insert a new xref we would like it to appear in all viewports except one. This applies to all layouts.

May 8, 2013In previous versions of Autocad 2008 and earlier you could start a new drawing xref in a drawing then switch to layout and create a viewport that would show the xref. Then you could click inside that viewport and run the FL (freeze layer) command and selectively freeze layers by clicking on them.
In my current version of Autocad Civil 3D 2010, when I follow the same steps as above and run the FL (freeze layer) command inside the viewport, the entire layer contents within the viewport freeze as if everything is on that one layer.
I notice that if I pull up the layer manager box and go down the list of xref'd layers and select the freeze in viewport option for each of the layers I need to freeze it will do what I need to have done, But I'd like to be able to be able to selectively freeze these layers visually within the viewport like I've always been able to do, instead scrolling down a long list of layer names and freezing them that way.

Nov 15, 2013I know that in ACAD you can use the xref manager to see where the actual file for the xref resides on your computer/server/etc. What I'm curious about is whether or not the inverse action is possible. Can you somehow access the file (not the output sheet where it's being xref-ed) and see what other files are using it as an xref?
I've come in on a project that is nearing completion and have been assigned the task of "cleaning up the project folder." Unfortunately, there are a ton of files in the different folders that are no longer in use on the final output sheets and I need to keep the ones still in use and archive the ones that are no longer needed. What I've been doing is going through those sheets and reviewing the xref manager for each sheet to see which files are actually put onto those sheets and making a physical checklist from which to organize my findings. Once the checklist is made, I then archive all the files that are no longer being used.

I have got a similar routine from earlier posts but it doesn't work if any xrefs inserted in paper space (works fine on model space). could change this routine allowing to change the layer of xref in paper space too.

Oct 2, 2012I am using (trying to anyway) a :VLR-xrefSubcommandReloadItem reactor. My only question is how to get the xref/block name from the 'reactor callback data' Object ID.
I am ultimately trying to pass it to (vla-get-xrefdatabase ....), but I cannot figure out how to turn the second parameter from the reactor callback data into something I can use - for example the second parameter returned may be "65" or some other number.

AutoCad :: Delay In Selecting Object And Selecting Command?
Sep 25, 2008I am having a problem with a delay in selecting an object and selecting a command.
When I select an object the pointer has at least a 3 second delay before it starts moving around normally again. It is the same with selecting a command. This has started to get tedious. It has worked fine in the past so I don't think it is a RAM/graphics card problem.

is it possible to bind an xref, but preserve that link in the xref manager? i realize that will lead to two copies of the same object in the drawing (one xref, plus the new block). everyone's okay with that happening.
AutoCAD Inventor :: Mouse Selecting / Not Selecting?
May 15, 2012OK, today, or actually just this afternoon I've noticed it has become much harder to select items with the mouse.
Points, nodes, etc...anything where you'd typically hover the mouse over the item and it highlights for you to select it.
For example, lets say you want to project a point from another sketch, or select the center node of a line, etc.
Never really had an issue until this afternoon where now it seems I have to be right on top of the item and I cannot budge one bit or it won't select it. It is now taking me numerous attempts to select things like points (zooming in does not work, points scale accordingly).
Is there a setting somewhere? I can't seem to find such under Tools>Application Options and the like.

Aug 13, 2012I'm about ready to put together a large job that is going to have a lot of sheets. Since most of my jobs are one sheet plans, this is out of my comfort zone. I usually just have a scaled cover sheet/border that I drop into model space and put whatever I need into it there and then print it. This job has several mini jobs in one huge model space. I think It's going to be better for me to actually use paper space as its intended this time. I'm using 2010. Just a skeleton of an order of operations, so at least I have something to search for detailed instructions.

Jun 24, 2013I Can't think of what might be making this happen, but when I export a single layout to PDF (or to a printer) everything works out as normal. When I Export all Layouts to PDF, my text changes fonts and inserts squares for only some of the characters.

Jul 16, 2012When I add an object field in paperspace to report on the scale of a viewport in the layout, as I return to that layout and zoom in or out the viewport displays as hot in MS (tab reports as PS) and leaves the MS information of my previous visit embeded on the layouts neutral background and the "new" zoomed MS information is added to modelspace. The background objects cannot be selected or deleted but if I go to the block editor screen -choosing any block for my selection, when I close the block edit and return to the layout, the objects are cleared. I have installed service pack #1 for v12 and I lso have installed V13. I didn't notice this problem prior to the service pack or usin v13. I have an Intel i7 processor, 64 bit.

The .DWG came from a manufacturer and displayed 3 pages worth of content that was seperated into 3 Engineering Drawings.

If I want to trunoff/on some layers in different layouts, the best way is to use "vp freeze" column in layers properties manager. This way I can manipulate layers' visibility without altering them in MS or other layouts.
Left to "vp freeze" column there is "new vp freeze". I don't know what is this one?

Sep 17, 2013I'm doing a work where i need to copy many layouts. I can set a few at a time, but doing one at a time is faster (in the end). However, rightclicking the mousebutton on the layout, copy it and scroll to the bottom to 'place at end' it time consuming.
I rather have a lisp of some kind that can copy the current layout and place it at the end (most right) of the layout tabs.
if it is possible with some -command (commandbar) i can do it myself, but i can't find any command to do so...
AutoCad :: Unable To Add Layouts To Sheet Set?
May 10, 2012I've encountered a pretty nasty problem over the past week. I can no longer add specific layouts to existing sheet sets. I can make a new sheet set, but I cannot see the drawings that I would like to add to the sheet set.
The only "solution" I've found is to make a new sheet set, save each of the desired dwgs as newly renamed dwgs, and then, f if I pat myself on the head and spin around in 3 complete circles, I have a 78% chance of being able to add them to the new sheet set.
Obviously, this is like cutting off your hand and holding it, while your friend shakes your deadhand, instead of just shaking his hand.
I've read about this so-called dbl file, but much like Bigfoot, I have not seen one with my own eyes. We have never had this problem in our office- got a new server- had this problem (isolated to the new drive) - got it "fixed" - problem has spread to older drives.

Mar 14, 2012when I use the selection with the mouse, I can clearly see in model space the borders of the window I create. But when I switch to Layouts, it's invisible. I can still use it, but it's annoying not seeing the window selection. I've tried with OPTIONS-SELECTION and DISPLAY tabs to adjust it and it didn't work.
