The following is the problem: I have an assy with multiple different frames. If I make a parst list in the IDW all the frame members are shown seperatey, I just want to show only the frames in de parts list. I tried grouping, but when two assy's are the same that doesn't work any more.
View 3 RepliesI come across this problem from time to time and generally either just ignore it, if the detail is destined for in house manufacture, or alter it in autocad if it's destined for exterior suppliers.
Our guard frames are manufactured from extruded aluminum section (made by a company called palletti) I have when needed created a new frame generator frame member for each new x-section that we wish to use. I then draw a 2d sketch for the base frame skeleton and then a 3d sketch for all the frame work above. This I then use in an assembly to create the framework. This framework assembly then goes into a second assembly where the framework is then adorned with all the accoutrements that make up a guard frame that we can then order as an assembled frame, panels feet, hinges et al.
When placing the views for the detailing of the second assembly sometimes the view will show the wrong length for one or some of the frame members.
;note how the left and right views are different and how some of the frame members are elongated on the lh view.
I'm guessing its because of the home grown frame members but all seems to work well other wise and this only happens infrequently.

I'm trying to generate frame members around a combination of 2D & 3D sketches, the preview is fine however when I click apply and OK it magically vanishes
Everything is set up fine in the 'Insert Frame' dialogue box and the previews look spot on.

Can i create a custom size frame member and publish this custom size metal frame member for use with the Frame Generator?
Also is it possible to publish the frame member with a particular color?
I've created a frame out of tubular steel using frame generator. When specifying sketch lines for the members, i indadvertently selected two adjacent, co linear members, instead of going from point to point.
i.e. frame members are A to B and B to C - what I am after is a frame member from A to C.
I want to merge the two, to have a continuous piece of steel, however i'm afraid that deleting them both and replacing will delete mates which i have in place to each of their faces.
I've made a number of frame generated assemblies with standard ISO 30X30X3 L-beams. Now they wanna change it to another dimension still standard just 40X40X4 instead.
I'm pretty new to this but shouldn't I be able to do this for an assemble in one go with frame generator?
With all the service packs and updates installed 2012 still fails to sometimes recognize frame members properly. Not only is the frame mitre being ignored, the frame was never as long as the idw is showing. It was only as long as the edge. I have spent hours deleting and re-created the frame, views and even completely re-created the drawing but why it's doing this. 2010, 2011 & 2012 have all had frame generator bugs.

This can be difficult because I need to zoom in on the screen while having the section of the browser visible on screen at the same time. Is there a way that I can individually select each member in the assembly without using the browser?

I have made a simple rectangular frame made of structural angles. I need the 4 corners to be mitered and to be able to change the dimensions of the frame, so I used frame generator.
I need a pattern of small clips welded to the inside face the frame. I did this by mating the back face of the clips to the inside face of the angles. This worked fine for resizing the frame itself, but when I changed the members to a different size, I lost the constrants holding the clips in place.
Is there a better way to attach the clips so that they will stay intact when switching frame members?
I am attempting to make a frame that includes a couple bent members.
This is a side view of my frame. I am trying to make it so that the outer members are simply one piece of angle iron that is notched and bent at the angles. I have not been able to figure out how to do this and as it stands right now, that piece of the frame is made up of 5 seperate lengths of angle iron. Is there any way to get it as one piece in the frame generator or any other way for that matter?

I made a table in the file and also split the part into 2 solids.
In the drawing, when i choose the first table mamber it shows both. when i choose to show the active member it shows the first member only (as i want).It didn't happen before i split the part.
My zip program doesn't know to include only the subfolder with the generated table files, only the whole path. i hope you will manage to generate the files, if not-i will add them with the whole path
I have a feeling this goes way back to the first release of INV we had (release 14?). Basically the merged FG member length seems to be calculated using the member centre line instead of real lengths. See the attached Pack-N-Go.
The view on the left is a Merged FG member. The view in the middle is individual FG members based on a line of symmetry in the same sketch. Both are placed using the mid point option in the FG dialogue. The views on the right are the 3 separate members used for the middle view.
The Merged length shows 722 mm whereas adding the 3 member lengths (RH view) equals 740 mm. 18 mm short, or 2 sets of 9 mm (shown in the middle view) which represents the end cuts to the middle member in the RH view.

How do i show and close the parts list iso-main menu with code?
View 1 Replies View RelatedOn the main sheet of my drawing I have the overall Parts List. Shows almost all parts except for the few that we don't want to list. On the second sheet I inserted a Parts List to show only parts that are shown in a detail on that page, made the rest non-visible.
On the main sheet there is an item (#13) that has a QTY of 3. Two of those Three are optional parts. What I'm trying to do is insert a custom part into the Parts List, give it an item number of 13A and put in the description "OPTIONAL", then do an Override in the balloon to show 13A.
I get it in the Parts List, Apply it, close it, save the drawing. Looking at the Parts List, item #13A is there, but item #14 is gone. I go back into the Parts List and 13A is there and there's a blue box around the item # and the description. I uncheck Static Value and number 14 shows up (item # and the description).
Then I go over to sheet two, open that Parts List and it lists 13A at the bottom with all the info I added in sheet one and it's non-visible. Go back to sheet one, open the Parts List and there is no 13A to be found.
My parts list on my idw do not update when I make changes to the model. Specifically, I have deleted a bolted connection on my design and replaced with a different components but the parts list table does not update - all I see is a lightning bolt in the browser next to the parts list but I cannot update it here.

I was using virtual parts to add nuts and bolts to a drawing in 2013
I can make a VP bolt in the assembly, no problem, set it's size, weight, etc.
In the VP itself, there is no option for number of bolts I want it to emulate. For arguement's sake the weight was 1 pound per bolt (they are big bolts).
I can go into the BOM and say quantity 60, hit done and save the assembly.
If i open the drawing, the parts lists shows 60lbs for the 60 bolts total - which it should when summing the weight.
The problem is the BOM/assembly. If the weight of my assembly (without bolts) is 10,000lbs, the assembly sees the VP weighing 1lb and says the total weight is 10,001 lbs. Am i going to have to pattern a fake part to get this to work right? Shouldn't the total weight take into account the quantity set in the Bom??
Is there a way to display the density of materials that are assigned to varius parts in the parts list on a drawing? I don't need the mass of the parts I just need the material density to show up next to their respective parts.
For example, if I have a part with [steel mild] material assinged to it (no matter the size) I need a column in the BOM on the drawing to show: 490.684 lbs/ft^3. "Worry when there's something to worry about."
I have an assembly with a lot of purchased parts. I need to create a buy out list for purchasing. I've done this many times in the past and have a template set up for this purpose.
So now the problem, In this assembly, I have subassemblies showing up on my parts only parts list.
One of the subassemblies cinsists of two purchased parts. Both parts are set to purchased in the Bill of materials. If I do a parts only list on this assembly, it works as expected, showing two purchased parts. However, if I put that assembly into a higher level assembly, A parts only parts list shows the assembly instead of the individual parts.

Been working over an idw MANY times due to project lag.Today I opened it up and tried adding balloons to an already ballooned assembly.
The parts list has not changed, and is "structured".But, if I try adding balloons, they tag each part, not the entire assembly.
Also, I verified this by trying to add another parts list, which defaults to "parts only".
I can't show my data set, b/c it's HUGE, plus it's proprietary.

I have a .idw that I'm trying to make a parts list on. I select parts list and highlight everything. There are two screws that are not showing up on the parts list. I cannot select them manually either. It's acting like they are not there. Even if I do a complete parts list (adding the assemblies parts into one big list), they still don't show up.
How can I select these parts? What is wrong with them that they do not show up in the parts list?
I am new to Inventor and am trying to model a hopped safety ladder in Inventor. I have gone through the stages of creating the 2D sketch then adding to assembly and creating the frame which had worked ok for the standard straight run. I am having problems however with the hopped safety cage section which is slightly more complex. I have created a basic circle in sketch part and managed to add a frame to this but I can't copy the component or modify it to create the hopped cage or add it to the main frame.

I've been using the "Phantom" BOM Structure to roll up duplicate .ipt's when I have more than one sub-assembly within a higher .iam and it has worked well.
Question - is it possible to adjust settings so that the .iam that I "Phantom" itself remains as a visable line item in the Parts List while still rolling up like .ipt's?
I have a drawing and I need to get a list of parts. I see *most* solutions use the parts list on the sheet itself. I will not have access to that. Is there a way to get a list of parts WITHOUT accessing oSheet.PartsList[1] ?

What would cause my frame generator parts to rotate when I change a completely different part on my frame. they seem to be off by a very small amount. they seem to rotate everytime a change something else in the frame and can change them to be correct.. I believe my main sketch is constrained.

Having an assembly, modeled in the frame generator, then with some additional parts (ribs, plates, etc) added to the assembly as parts and constrained with assembly constraints.. which is the best way to do a frame analysis with the frame analysis enviroment for considering the all structure (frame generators parts + the additional enforcing parts) ?
The assembly look like for example, to this (modeled in autocad).
I am on inventor 2010. never really used the frame generator much before. so I may be doing soemthing wrong.
But I just make #d sketches, and add members as i need them.
But I have this assembly, made of I-beams and HSS. I noticed eventually some parts will get twisted.
(Not really sure when and why it happens. I Usually notice just by chance.)
The only way I found to correct the problem is to delete the member and re-add it.
As an academic interest I was trying to convert Brian’s code for exporting Parts list with thumbnail to VB.net 2012. I just modified the below code to remove the vb6 support. I am using VS 2012 and Inventor 2014. The end result on the word report thumb nail for some parts are not visible. It goes to the error code and putting the text instead of thumb nail. At the same time Brian’s code as it is (used the exe file to install it) works fine on the same parts list with all thumb nail.

We would like to put barcodes in a parts list. To create a barcode we use a special barcode font.
It's impossible to have two types of fonts within one parts list, but is there an other way? Is there code (VBA) to generate a table with an extract of the bill of materials and a barcode generated
with a special font on the fly. We would basically need a parts list with an extra column for the barcode.

is there any way to make all the rows in the BOM/parts list on an IDW the same height? I did a search on this and saw nothing new on this. the reason we need this is for a program we use after export to dwg. it is a program we use in autocad that is a txt copy lisp program to populate attributed customer title blocks.

Want parts to be sorted from 1 ascending. Add a part number in custom properties as a number. Asks the part list to sort - ends like this: 1, 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16,......, 2, 21, 22, 23, .......,3 , 31 and so on ?????
Is this a bug or how do I change this?
