AutoCAD Inventor :: Quickest Way To Rename Files In Vault?

Apr 9, 2012

What would be the quickest way to rename files in Vault?

I have lets say 100 parts with prefix 1012.

I want to change to 1014.

I can hightlight all parts in Vault, go rename and then replace prefix manually for each part.

Seems hectic.Any quicker, more automatic way?

Adding prefix does not work since does not replaces but adds.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Vault File And Folder Rename Taking Too Long?

Nov 8, 2012

I have a vaulted project with about 1000 parts in it and a subfolder within that that has about 250 parts in it.I am told that vault does not manage references outside the project scope as defined by the IPJ which in theis case is at that 1000 part folder level.

If I go to rename the folder with 250 parts in it, it takes up to a half hour.  I am having trouble believing that vault can't do better than a half hour to manage the references of a subfolder of a project with 1000 parts in it, when only 250 parts are affected.

Also, I notice a secondary ipj file is created temporarily during the renaming.  That ipj appears under an inventor folder under my docs.  Can't see why it takes two ipj files to manage one project.  Also don't understand why there should be a local ipj file active when I am renaming at the vault level.  I am suspicious that this other ipj (named after my company name, indicating a purposeful act) is expanding the scope of reference management since its parent resides at the root Vault explorer ($) separate of the projecy ipj.  Also takes way too long to rename individual files.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Migrate Files From Vault

Nov 23, 2011

We are trying to migrate our 2010 and earlier inventor files that exists in our vault 2012 professional fully replicated environment to The latest inventor release.

We are trying to utilize the task scheduler. but when attempting to use the "Migrate Files from Vault" and select the option to add folders. we receive several pop ups, one after another. The header states "folder" and in the message box is simply "1000" then an "ok" button.

After clicking ok a half dozen times the dialog finally comes up to select the folder, but the entire vault is not available in the selection window. I have tried this on several machines and 2 different databases. Same result.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Checking Out Files From Vault?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Files Won't Check-in To Vault

Jan 3, 2012

We are currently using Inventor 2010 Professional Suite. Most of the users here are working with AutoCAD Mechanical. For the most part, it does the job. The person that previously used Inventor has moved on to bigger and better opportunities. Recently a new person was hired to utilize the Inventor software for initial designs. The original software was loaded on a new machine and everything seemed to work fine. Inventor was able to checkout files from the vault and were able to be manipulated accordingly. The issues began when the individual started to check the files back into the vault. It would appear everything works fine but the files never appear in the vault. Even if we create a new directory and attempt to check them in, the new directory is created in the vault but the files will not check-in.

If we use AutoCAD Mechanical, the files will check-out and check-in fine using the addin tools. It would appear all the rights are setup correctly. We even changed the new user to administrator and it still did not work. No one else has Inventor installed, but I am about to install it on another machine this Thursday when IT is in.

We have attempted to even drag the files into the vault just to see if that would work, even though we know this method is usually not the best. Still no success.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Task Scheduler - Using It To Get Non-Inventor Files From Vault

Nov 18, 2011

AutoCAD Inventor :: Using Autoloader To Load Files To Vault?

Jan 16, 2009

We are looking at using Autoloader to load inventor files to the vault. Problem is we do not use the default folder "Designs" in our Vault folder structure it is named differently.

So what happens is that Autoloader does not find the designs folder and creates one automatically, and files are uploaded to this folder which is exactly what we do not want.

I need to change the Autoloader settings to use the differently named folder not the designs folder..

AutoCAD Inventor :: Why Can't Move Large Files In Vault

Oct 14, 2010

I have a couple of .ipt files that are up near 60Mb. We have rearranges the folder structure in vault but these files can't be moved. It comes up with an error saying that access to the C:Temp .... folder is denied. I have full access to c: harddisk so it is something that Vault has created. It is only with large files.

Funny things is that when you try to move it (drag and drop) the file that is too large is checked out, without a version being transferred to the harddrive. So it finishes up with a check mark but no circle.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Sharing Assembly Files Without Using Vault

Nov 6, 2012

We do not use VAULT. We're using network shared folder with 3 machine.

In some cases three users opening same assembly and sub assemblies. In this case Inventor showing us an error like "You can not save file. Use save-as" But in this case it's impossible to work share files.

We're opening / using same project file (ipj).  I remember that older versions of Inventor give us to chance that not save some subassemblies of main assembly. In this case you may save newer version of assembly files..

How can I share network folder to share my assembly files with the other colleagues?

Using Inventor 2013 and not Vault. Because we're using Linux file server .

AutoCAD Inventor :: Copying Files In Vault - Copy Design Alternative?

Mar 5, 2013

I have a folder that contains subfolders, then more subfolders. All these folders contain Inventor files. There are few different models there with drawings and related files...

I need to make an exact copy of the folder at different location in Vault. To use Copy Design tool, I would need to do it few times, as there are few totally separate files in the folders.

Now, is there a way of taking main folder with its all contants and just copying/renaming it to other location? It would save me lot of time.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Rename Imported STEP Files

Dec 6, 2011

I'm currently creating a procedure to manage a standard part library.

For that, I'm trying to import downloaded STEP files from suppliers online libraries, and some of these STEP files contain assemblies.

I can open them as wanted in Inventor (1 .IAM and .IPT files), problem is I can't edit .IPT names. I can only rename them in Windows, but I would like to rename in Inventor before saving for the first time.

I would like to have something like that, with "Assembly" the assembly name:

Assembly.IAM
Assembly_1.IPT
Assembly_2.IPT
Assembly_3.IPT
...

How can I do that without renaming in Windows?

I attached the STEP file I'm using, downloaded form McMaster.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Rename Content Center Files?

Jul 12, 2013

I want to rename all bolts, nuts in all my families in Content Center. Is there an easy way to do this without messing up content center and assemblies?

Before we started using Vault we had to define the filename and include the description in the filename to be able to find and resuse the part. The filename was combined with article no and description. We would now the filename to be only the article no.

Example:

   100056 - Bolt hexagon head M5x16 A4 DIN933.ipt

should have filename:

   100056.ipt

AutoCAD Inventor :: Quickest Way To Create Part That Starts Off As Basic Extruded AISC Shape?

Dec 10, 2013

I am new Inventor user (2014 version) trying to get up to speed on best practices and the most efficient work flows. I find myself designing individual parts that start off as base AISC shapes (angles, square tubes, rectangular tubes, etc.).  These are parts that start off as base extrusions that then have multiple machining operations performed on them.  In most cases, the parts are stand along parts that aren't involved in any type of frame.

In these cases, I generally sketch the profile from scratch using my AISC book and then extrude.  I'm sure this is silly.  Frame generator already has the profile data built in- so why am I sketching these profiles from scratch?  But using frame generator in an assembly environment to make a single member part seems silly to me also.  Why should there be an assembly file at all?  I just want a single part that starts off as some length of some standard profile.  Using frame generator in an assembly environment seems like overkill.

What is the best practice for starting off a part with some length of a standard ANSI, ISO, or other profile?

AutoCAD 2010 :: ARX And DLL Files On Vault Server?

Oct 1, 2013

My company is currently running AutoCAD 2012 and we have invested heavily in some custom DLL and ARX routines that really automate our design/engineering process.  The problem is that these currently resolve on laptop computers and our executive managment doesn't feel that it is very secure.

Their suggestion is to run AutoCAD through a virtual machine, which none of us like, for many reasons.

One option we would like to explore is using Autodesk Vault to store our DLL and ARX files, and require Vault login in order to load/run these files.

AutoCAD 2010 :: Vault Environment - Close Files And Delete Working Copies

Apr 25, 2012

When working in Inventor within a Vault environment, you have a check box on the "Check In" dialogue box for "Close files and delete working copies" that once selected, it stays selected until the user unchecks the box.

(see below)

Not so when working with AutoCAD....why?

Why is it that every time a user checks a file into Vault from ACAD, they have to check that box?

There has got to be a seting somewhere that this check box stays selected. Why isn't this a default? How to "lock" that down?

When I move my mouse over the status icon, it says "vault not open". There is no response when I try to log into the Vault within Inventor.

I upgraded from 2009 to 2010 Inventor and Vault two weeks ago. Everything worked fine until today. Vault Explorer seems to be working fine. The ADMS console seems to also be working fine. I can do all the routine tasks in both programs. The problem is only in Inventor.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Changes Not Being Checked Into Vault

Aug 17, 2012

We have a user that has been experiencing problems when checking files into vault.  The problem occurs when he copies a design (the drawing and part file) in vault then checks out the files to make changes, saves it and checks it back in, Inventor doesn't check in the changes.  The preview window (i.e.. dwf that's generated on check in) is correct however the thumbnail is wrong and when you open the latest version none of the changes have been made.

This is taking up a lot of time because he has to make the changes twice and also has to be constantly looking back in vault to files he has just checked in to make sure they are correct.

AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Add Raw Material To IPT - BOM / Vault

Oct 26, 2011

We are a mid sized company the builds our parts from raw materials. Steel Coils, Steel tubing, Steel plate, etc.

We are have been migrating from MDT to Inventor over the last few years. We are now trying to implement Vault and integrate that data into our ERP system. We would like to model a part and assembly and check that into Vault then pass the BOM into our ERP system.

It all sounds good up until I looked at how our part files were structured. There is not BOM in an ipt that I have found phantom or referential. Here is my problem

It takes 1 lb of a .0625" thich steel sheet that is 6.5" wide. We stamp our product in a 200 ton press producing a finish componet.Problem 1- Part1.ipt (model of my stamping) does not have a lower level it is a component in Inventor there is no BOM that I have found.Problem 2 - Part2.iam uses part1ipt but we punch a hole in it and push material outward to create a lip so we can lap weld the next part. When I try to extrude this feature I can only cut the part I cannot add material or deform it in any way.Problem 3 - We also manufacture bent tubes. We consume 1.5 ft of part C to make part D. I cannot insert 1.5ft of a part that is 20ft long as we buy it. then we bend it. I cannot insert a 1.5ft part into an assembly and then bend it.

Major problem - even though I can change the dwg file or idw file to add a parts list Vault does not put this information in the Item master BOM.

AutoCAD Inventor :: IAssemblies In Vault

If I activate a different member in the main assembly factory, Inventor wants to update some of the various children. For some reason, vault won't prompt me to check out the children. I get a variety of errors, unless I manually check out the children.

There are at least 20 iAssemblies involved at different levels of this thing, not to mention all the iParts thrown in as well.
