AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Import OBJ 3D Image

Aug 25, 2013

I'm new to Autodesk Inventor. I found a .obj 3D image that I'd like to import into Autodesk Inventor 2014 Professional. I found FBX 2013.2 on the Autodesk website but was unsure whether or not I should install it. Is it compatible with the suite I have?

If it isn't compatible, is there a program/utility that I could use?

GIMP :: Shrinking Image / Layer When Import To New / Different Image?

May 30, 2011

i am trying to use it to design button badges on my new laptop. I have photoshop on my old laptop and have lots of psd files that I have been trying to use with GIMP.

I am finding that GIMP is shrinking my images when I import them to different images and when I come to print them on A4 they are smaller than they should be, and so useless to me in making my badges...

Printing the original image from GIMP gives me it in it's intended size though. How can I stop this from happening?

It happend when I import into an A4 - as I need to fit approximately 40 badge images per sheet.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Import Google Earth Image And Surface?

Nov 13, 2010

I am trying to import a surface and Image from Google Earth.  Basically my steps are as follows:

start GE and C3D find area that I need on GE and zoom in under C3D, insert GE Image and Surface (then it goes straight into select point, and rotation)

Like most discussions i've read.., the import slows down at 49%, and then it chugs for hours if I let it. So i have to cut the cord and re-start both programs.

I saw in a discussion that there are settings that we can change the rows and columns to something like 70x70.

however.... I cannot find where to update this.  I typed importgesurface, and clicked on the ribbon as well..., then tried to right click, but it does not take me to the settings. I also figured that I might have to run C3d as admin, but no luck either.

find these settings so I can change them to import a surface and image that is about 15acres?

Running:
Sony Vaio
intel core i7
8GB Ram
64bit Windows 7 Pro

AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Import Without Having To Fix The Sketch

Oct 20, 2009

When importing Acad files is it possible to imprort without having to fix the sketch in inventor? Meaning, if the Acad drawing was drawn so all the lines attach to another ("closed loop") why is it when I import and select all the layers or (no layers) that i can not extrude the sketch in inventor without always having to fix.

-Redundant points
-Missing Coincident contraints
-Overlapping curves
-open loops
-self intersecting loops

Before importing the autocad file, what needs to be done to the autocad drawing before importing for a flawless sketch so i can just extrude it in inventor?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Import DWG Preview

Oct 2, 2013

When I first install Inventor, everything works fine, I can preview the DWG when I import it, choose layers and so on. Then with time, this preview doesn't work and I don't know why nor how to fix this.

I had the problem with 2012, 2013 and now 2014. I installed Inventor from the factory design suite advanced (ultimate) and it worked at the beginning. Now I installed SP1 for Inventor and it doesn't work anymore (I'm not a 100% sure that it's related but it's the latest modification I did).

Now I'm trying to fix this. I uninstalled DWG TrueView 2014 and reinstalled it from the downloaded version (autodesk site). It doesn't work.

I uninstalled vault pro 2014 SP1, then trueview, the design review, reboot, install back vault pro client 2014 then its SP1... still not better, the import window preview is still empty and not showing layers.

As I said it's not the 1st time and it happened on previous versions as well. Is there a solution without uninstalling Inventor ? Anyway I'm afraid that If I uninstall Inventor to install it back, I will encounter the same problem as soon as I will install SP1.

DWG TrueView by itself works fine, I can open my drawings (even Inventor DWG), Autocad Mechanical works fine, everything looks OK but this import thing.

To be complete, here what I have installed from autodesk (and i installed it successively) :
Inventor Pro / MDT / DWG Trueview / AOEM View 2009
Inventor Pro / DWG Trueview 2012
Inventor Pro / ACAD Mecha / Navisworks Manage / DWG Trueview / vault pro client 2013 (FDS)
FDS Ultimate / Vault Pro (server and client) 2014

I just tried in 2009 and 2013 and the import works. Now in Inventor 2014  it tells me that the DWG was created by a more recent version of DWG Trueview and that I can't import it.

In the registry editor, the Inventor current version is still 2009 (it should be 2014). I'll reboot my computer and see if it's better.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Crashing When Trying To Import Part

Feb 22, 2013

My problem is that when I try to open the .iges file, it will sit there and try to open in Inventor for about 5 mintues and then the program will just end. It doesn't give me any sort of error message before crashing, it just dissapears. I can open the files in Mastercam just fine. I tried to open the file in Mastercam and save it as a .stp. The same thing happened when opening the .stp in Inventor. I tried to change some of the options that are available when opening these files in Inventor and that doesn't seem to work. I need to get these files open in Inventor desperately.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Import And Use Drawing Standards?

Sep 27, 2012

I'm working on homogonizing all of our various templates, making all the new features from newer templates available in the older templates but I'm getting high centered on a step.

I've exported all of the different drawing standards and imported them all into each template which makes all of the upgraded dim styles available in all of the templates. The issue arrises when I save and close then reopen the template the imported standards are missing. It appears that under Manage, Styles Editor, if the standard is not in use it is not saved with the template. If this is the case how do I put them all "in use"? Even if I activate one of the imported standards, save, close, reopen, then activate a different standard and repeat, the imported standard is deleted.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Import 2D DWG As Construction Geometry?

Dec 17, 2011

Currently I save all my 2D DWGs as IGES files and then import the files into Inventor. That converts all the geometry to Construction Wires in an IPT, which means MUCH improved performance (you don't have to wait for Inventor to convert every single entity in the DWG to a Sketch entity). I then start a new Sketch and Project those lines that I need from the Construction Wires.

Is there a way to do this directly (convert to Construction Wires) with a DWG, without having to save as an IGES file first?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Import Part Information For BOM

Sep 30, 2011

I've been tasked with looking into the capabilities of Inventor, which we (company I work for) may not be using to their fullest. Now, I am not an Inventor user, I'm on the IT side (programming), but I know the general process for how our models/drawings/documents are created. I think a good word to describe our process is "kludgy". From what I've found in searching for a handful of hours, it seems that Inventor could do what we are doing in other programs, easier and faster.

The background: We have a database and application setup for tracking BOM with costs, weights, etc. We are using Inventor 2012 as well as Vault. We already have lots of parts and assemblies drawn/modeled. Most of our drawings/documents are made in AutoCAD, though I'm not sure how much is coming from Inventor. There are some internally developed macros for exporting these to other formats (.doc).

Would it be possible to import in the data that we already have elsewhere, and match it up to our parts/assembles in Inventor/Vault? This could allow us to improve the process by taking out some of the manual work (in AutoCAD), and improve the accuracy of the information (manual data entry).
