I need to do a drawing in inventor ASAP and I've never used the software. I have a design drawn out on paper, and I want to use it as a template. I understand that you can import a scan into autocad... so how do you import the autocad file into inventor so I can make it 3D. Or can I just import the scanned file into inventor? How???
View 1 RepliesI recently migrated from Windowx XP (32 bit) to Windows 7 (64bit). On the xp computer, I installed the driver for my epson V500 photo scanner, and when go to File--> Import, there is an option to import via espon scanner. However, in Window 7, with Photoshop CS4 64 bit installed, the installed scanner does not show up on the import menu.
I don't know how to get it to see the scanner as it does on my XP machine. I tried copying the photoshop plugins/import-export folder from the xp machine to photoshop (64)/plugind/import-export folder, but that didn't make a difference.
I really need the scanner to be visible inside photoshop.
Am getting error message: Could not move a file to the requested location.
Scans have been saved on dvd, numbered as Scan_1 (680).tif, Scan_1(681).tif, etc.
Is it the parenthsis in the file numbers? If so how can I chance to make it work. Looking at over 1000 files.
We are looking to buy a wide format scanner to scan technical drawings into our system. We would like to be able to take that scanned image and export it into our cad software and then edit them (stretchlines, move lines, etc.).
I see where you can purchase software that will convert PDF's into a .dwg file. At that point can we do "complete" editing, just as if it had been created in our software?
I have some LeoCAD lego parts which I have exported as a 3ds file. I want to place and use these parts in Inventor. I've tried: importing into AutoCAD, exporting as an iges, importing into inventor and saving it as an ipt file but it doesn't work.
View 8 Replies View RelatedI am trying to import a ProE created STP or STEP file of a solid model into 2012. STP does not seem to be an option under format types. AutoCAD Mechanical 2012 seems to import the file just fine and it looks and act like a solid. I saved the file out in dwg format. When I try to import the dwg file into Inventor or just open it, a "styles conflict" dialog box comes up even though the dwg file being imported and the ipt file being used are the standard versions that come with the programs. If I click OK an idw file opens displaying a blank sheet. Then Inventor acts like it is done with the task.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI created a task to import (convert) a specified folder of MDT files using a specified ini file to ignore the layout drawings (tests resulted in near-useless idws with most missing drawing views - mainly due to our ignorance in creating MDT drawings). I specified a subfolder as the destination for the converted ipt files. After the task runs, the ipt files appear in the main folder (where I did not want them), while the destination folder has files with the names of <original part number>.dwg.ipt. The ipt and dwg.ipt files appear identical and have the same feature tree.
A typical entry in the Import.txt file is:
22926.dwg Get Translator Success ...InventorConvert MDT Files
dwg 22926.dwg Open Success ...InventorConvert MDT Files

So I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong here. It appears to be mainly working, but it will require cutting/pasting/deleting I wasn't expecting. The main goal here is to create ipt files that our CAM system can (we hope) work directly with, as they dumped the MDT translators a while back.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI thought I'd share a little discovery we made here yesterday. Before we upgraded to Inventor 2013, there was a lot of fuss and hesitation due to 2013 not having the AMDT import wizard functionality. This lack of functionality was also confirmed by our VAR.
I can confirm that Autodesk Inventor Professional 2013 DOES have the usual Mechanical Desktop import wizard.
I can also confirm that it still doesn't bring in extruded text :-)
I've attached a collection of screenshots as proof.
Does a process for importing INDIVIDUAL materials (saved as some_material.styxml) that had been exported from Inventor 2011 or 2012 into the 2013 Inventor Material Library?
I am not asking about converting the old libraries -- I know how to do that -- these are materials that were created for one-time (supposedly) use and exported from the 2012 Inventor file, but never saved to the older Inventor styles libraries. Operation was EASY in 2012 -- click the "Import" button on the styles manager dialog box.
No such button on the new materilas library manager, or am I missing something?
Only way I have been able to do this is create a 2102 part, import the STYXML file, apply the material to the 2012 part, then save the part & open it in 2013 & let 2013 import the style. Once the material style has been imported this way, it can be added to the Inventor Material Library, but this is a really nutty workaround that requires Inventor 2102 to be available...

I don't want to again create the Title Blocks , Border layout and Sheet information for Solid Works. How can i import or make use of ready templates created in Inventor to Solid Works. ?

98% of our work consist of creating idw drawings of complete factory's plants, large 3d plant models.
Therefore we have many subcontractors and from them we receive 3D step/iges models (size approx. 240MB), we want to be able to import these in to our models. But for the moment we are unable to import these files into inventor (due to size probably), it takes very long (over 36 hours) to convert, and most of the times we get a error... or inventor hangs.
When we are able to convert these we have performance problems because of size of our models.
So my questions are;
- why does it take so long to open,
- how can we reduce these files.
Can Inventor import files from the Maya and/or Zbrush modeling package?...

using a nikon coolscan V ed negative scanner and vuescan software. no difference in naming of files between imported ones and unimported ones. again, all files successfully scanned into My Pictures.
I am scanning a large number of negatives using VueScan. Vuescan automatically creates the digital files in numerical order (if you use the proper settings) as they are scanned and places them in the proper folder. The process of scanning the negatives takes several days. Upon opening PSE 11, all the files should be in numerical order as created, but at times, PSE 11 will put today's files (say numbers 400 - 500) near the top of the list (like 001, 400, 401 etc, then 002, 003 etc) What is wrong? At other times everything is correct. Is there a way to correct this?

I'm want to reproduce a differential housing. Therefor I need a part which is identical to the inside of the housing. In other words, I need a positive part inside of the housing.
I've tried to do this with Derived parts by placing the differential housing in a large block. But then I get a block where lining of the housing is missing. So i can't do anything with this derived part.
I have attempt to upload the file, but it is too large. Even when i try to compress it.
I am currently using a Nikon D7100 and recording my photos in the Raw/NEF-RAW format. Recently, whenever I am uploading my photos to Lightroom 5, my photos are changing to .dng files rather than staying in the NEF file. When I go and look back at my previous imports from the past few times, they are in NEF and NOT in .dng. Why is this doing this and how do I turn this feature off so that my files remain the same going from my camera to my computer through importation.

Click Home tab > Data panel > Import From Files > mapimport.
Problem is, when I do this, I do not get the dialog that the help file says I should, like a place to define an insert layer or schema. All I get is the plain dialog that asks for formatting (file format such as autodesk up loadable file), Z unit, Coordinate system, and create block.
I also want to export the attribute data into a survey point file.
I just downloaded AutoCad Architecture 2013 and I am having trouble importing DWG files. When I select the file nothing happens. I had AutoCad 2012 for Mac and it worked fine. I switched to 2013 for PC via Parallels on my iMac because I was told that the PC version was better than Mac.

I have tried using the freeware converters such as Cad tools but have no way of opening the avx file, also tried Import Shape from ABC Autocad but have hit a wall there too. This made me wonder if its even possible in LT.
