AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Convert STP To Micro Station
Nov 25, 2013
Micro Station and using imported Inventor files?
Part of of the contract on our current job requires me to export my Inventor model out to a generic .stp format, so our client can use it at their end. Apparently they are using Micro Station, not sure what version yet.
My first attempt I was able to successfully create the .stp file, but it took about 15 hours and was 1.2 gb in file size.
I attempted to open it on another Inventor machine to check the conversion, but after 4 days it was still working on it....
Part of the problem was I just selected the default options when opening the .stp file, which have "import into repair environment" and such on. But this was in Inventor, does Micro Station have similar options? I have yet to try it with these options off. But I'm guessing it will still take way too long to open.
I think my only option is to convert several levels of detail into separate .stp files, not sure on file size of those as of yet. Even though the origins should remain the same, I will have a constant reference object of some kind so the end user can assembly everything correctly....

this into a DGN Mico Station drawing ? I am hoping to be able to list the elevations off the individual contour lines.

Implemented a CAD viewing station on the shop floor for the shop guys to use to view and measure the 3D CAD models? If so what did you use for software and how did it work?
The reason I ask is because we get into a lot of scenarios where a builder needs to see how something goes together in a machine or needs a distance between 2 parts or sub assemblies to work with set while they are assembling the machine. So instead of them stopping what they are doing walking up to the design department locating the design (now stopping him in what he is doing) and asking him to open the file for viewing or a distance they would be able to do it right on the floor.
I am thinking of making .DWFs of our main assembly IAMs and using a laptop with Autodesk Design Review to open them on the shop floor for the measuring and viewing.

Trying to make some micro ads (90x25) used on financial sites. I want to set my page size to that but can't. The smallest height the program will accept is 50pix.
Is there some way to override? Prefer to set page size so it matches the exported graphic. Less jaggies, less errors on my part.
How about a tutorial on clipview (need refresher for use with animation.. is the clip applied on every frame?)

Obviously LR seems to use some of the lens correction information it gets from Micro Four Thirds cameras. This shows when compared to results from RAW converters that don't.
I have noticed this for my Olympus OM-D and the 12-50 mm zoom. Is that the reason why there is no lens profile for that lens in Lightroom? And is this the case for all MFT lenses?

Recently bought into the m43s system because of the compact fast primes (Lumix G 20 1.7 and Olympus 24 1.8) and it looks like there are no "built-in" lens profiles for either in LR4 when I check "enable lens corrections". I thought I read somewhere that the 20 1.7 requires correction as it has a significant amount of (barrel, iirc) distortion if not corrected, yet the RAW images look fine upon import -- is Lightroom doing something that does not require a profile?

using Xara to make cartoons and illustrations for sale on microstock sites such as Dreamstime, Fotolia etc. Would the files produced by Xara be acceptable for these sites? (they seem to be fairly heavily biased towards illustrator, as far as I could make out). And is it worth trying to make a few bucks this way, or is the market already oversaturated?

Is it possible to convert a DWF to an .ipt (or .iam) file so that I can use the base DWF geometry in an Inventor assembly?
I have a dwf file that a customer sent me that is ~1.5 Mb. I asked to get it in a usable format and they sent a .stp file that is 23.3 Mb and Invetor just hangs (not responding). I let it try to load a few times for several hours without any luck.

Using Inventor 2014.
I was going to send autocad drawing to our client.
I found that converting IDW to DXF/DWG doesn't always get 1:1 scale on the DXF/DWG drawing.
In other words, some drawings are fine and the others are not.
It was set correctly in "Options..." by selecting "Base View Scale - Model Space".
There is nothing wrong with IDW files and all these files are using same template.

I have a medium sized assembly that I was working with. I decided I needed to create a weldment, so I stripped the assembly of all subassemblies, individual parts, etc and saved it as a different name. However, Inventor will not allow me to convert it to a weldment. That optoin is greyed out.
The only thing I can think of is I have a base part that I have hidden. It is used to drive the assembly. Perhaps that is causing a problem, but I cannot remove it or all associativity will be lost. I deleted it temporarily to try, but did not save it. The convert to weldment option did not appear after I deleted it.

I have some Inventor drawing files that a client wants in an AutoCAD 2007 format. Ever time I try to convert the .idw to an autocad .dwg I get this message, "Problems encountered while saving the document." So far this is what I've tried:
1. Save copy as -> Save as type: AutoCAD DWG files (*.dwg) -> error message
2. Export to DWG -> Save as type: AutoCAD DWG files (*.dwg) -> error message
I am able to save as an Inventor DWG but I need it as an AutoCAD DWG... I think. I read somewhere that Autocad 2007 won't read the DWG unless its in an AutoCAD DWG format.
I am running Inventor 2014 on a Windows 7 64 bit machine.

I'm looking for a way to convert the iproperty value "volume" into length from known values in the part. I have an assembly which consists of 20 different typs of sheets which are rolled out in certain patterns. The width and depth of the sheet are known, and I would like to use the volume to find the length. The assembly is linked to an excel file so the values will change based on certain parameters. I'm using this as a check to make sure there is no error from the spreadsheet.

A quick search of the forum didn't reveal answers to my elementary question so here it is. I'm working to get some design components manufactured overseas. The manufacturer uses Pro/E but in one of their very cryptic emails they told me to convert all files to .stp and .igs files. What I need to know is which of these file formats applies to assemblies and which applies to part file. In other words, when I open a part file, should I export it as a .stp file, or a .igs file?

A drawing was downloaded from an Architect's ftp site and placed in a directory. Drawing opened in an Autocad LT workstation displayed all layers from Architects drawing correctly.
Drawing opened in an Autocad 2012 workstation from same server location did not display all the layers. All layers were "on" & "thawed". Tried to copy into drawing but certain layers did not appear again.
Work with many different Architects over the years and this a first. opening same drawing from server.

I currently have my elevation view set up so that the x-coordinates correspond to the stationing along my structure and the y-coordinate corresponds to the elevations. I have a block that will insert the y-coordinate as it should. However, the x-coordinate requires some formatting so that it is shown properly (e.g. "10+00").
I have an attribute equal to a the x-coordinate divided by 100 with the precision changed to 0. So, if my point is 1016.123, the formula converts that to 10. This field is followed by a plus sign and then another field. This last field is equal to the x-coordinate minus the x-coordinate converted as before, then times 100. The purpose being that if my x-coordinate is 1016.123, I would get 16.123 and my block attribute would reflect 10+16.123. The problem is that AutoCAD retains all of the x-coordinate's precision when subtracting and I end up with a result of 0. See attached for clarity - I know this last bit is hard to understand if you can actually see what's going on.
I understand that I could subtract out 1000, but when my stationing is beyond 20+00, I will only be subtracting 1000 and my result will not be correct.
