AutoCAD Inventor :: 3D Viewing Station On Shop Floor
Apr 3, 2012
Implemented a CAD viewing station on the shop floor for the shop guys to use to view and measure the 3D CAD models? If so what did you use for software and how did it work?
The reason I ask is because we get into a lot of scenarios where a builder needs to see how something goes together in a machine or needs a distance between 2 parts or sub assemblies to work with set while they are assembling the machine. So instead of them stopping what they are doing walking up to the design department locating the design (now stopping him in what he is doing) and asking him to open the file for viewing or a distance they would be able to do it right on the floor.
I am thinking of making .DWFs of our main assembly IAMs and using a laptop with Autodesk Design Review to open them on the shop floor for the measuring and viewing.

I'm using AutoCAD 2010, working with a drawing created by someone else. I'm completely green with AutoCAD -- never used 2D CAD of any kind before. (I do have 15 year of experience with 3D CAD, but that's not much use to me now!)
The drawing is a shop floor plan, with each piece of a equipment as a block. I am moving or copying these blocks, sometimes to new layers. Sometimes, after I've moved a block to a new layer, I can no longer rotate it. The rotate command seems to work, but nothing happens.
Here's what I've tried so far:
* Checked if the layer is locked. (It's not; no layers are locked.) * Tested other blocks. (They behave normally.) * Toggled ortho mode on and off. (No change.) * Closed and re-opened the file. (No change.) * Closed and re-opened AutoCAD. (No change.) * Rebooted. (No change.)
One guy took my drawing, "exploded the blocks" (whatever that means), and gave it back to me. The blocks would then rotate but, as soon as I started working with another one the same thing happened.
I'm having an issue with layers not opening properly. I have a file that is a .psd, and when I open it initially, the layers are there. Then, if I save it, it pops up a box saying "because of the limitations of the specified file format (and possibly the save options you have selected), group data will be converted to raster data. Would you like to continue?
If I hit "yes", when I reopen the file, it only has 2 layers. What do I need to do in order to save it with all the layers in tact?
Running Win7 HP 64 bit, PSPX4 SP1- cannot view psp thumbnails in windows explorer. I've downloaded thumbnail handler from Bot Productions, but when I try to install it, Win7 tells me " this installation package is for Windows XP or newer, x64 edition. Go to the product's web site and look for a version for your operating system."
I'm working with PSP XI version on Windows XP machine.
I have been successfully editing many jpegs without issue, reviewing in slide show "Quick review" and doing one step correction "Quick Fix" in some cases. But now in one batch of photos whilst editing one picture an error message occurred (did not note it down) once during slide show preview; application locked; and having restarted PC / application this one file cannot be edited. Error message does not recur, Organiser tray simply shows grey box for this file.
When selecting this image in Organiser tray whole application still locks. Working with other images is fine.
Windows Explorer says that this one jpeg file is corrupt and copying and renaming does not fix.
Other preview software cannot recognise the jpeg either.
I am new to the PrintShop ProX4 family. I just purchased my first PSPX4 software, even though I have been using AfterShot for quite sometime. My question is, how do I prevent PSPX4 from being my default program for viewing images and or pictures attached to my emails.
Prior to purchasing and installing PrintShop ProX4, all my pictures attached to my emails would open up under my Windows photo gallery. But now, they open up under my PrintShop Pro X4 program and since I am still learning the PSPX4, I would like to convert back to the Windows photo gallery.
I don't think that my PSP X5 (or X4) is presenting the images the way the tab had intended. I've done several complete re-installs and the remainder of the program seems to be working, except for the Manage tab. I can see the images displayed in the tray portion of the window and the highlighted image name shows above the large preview window, however there is no image in the preview window.
The area becomes populated with images if I switch to the Thumbnail view, but the small preview window palette is blank. If, while in the Preview mode if I click on one of the effects, the effect is created in the tray. Another thing that I've noticed is if I use the Magnifier tool in the empty area (where the preview should be) I can actually see the magnified image in the tool.
I'm a new user of PSP X3, having upgraded from X2 and previously from X. When I used earlier versions, I could have numerous images open in the workspace, re-sizing, comparing, cross-cloning, etc. Now with X3 I can't seem to find any setting that will allow that same multiple image viewing. I've looked at the documentation but can't find any mention of this issue.
Am I just missing some checkbox or did Corel abandon this capability?
How to solve this problem of 'Flattening a large 3d model (hospital ground floor) to a 2d floor plan drawing'. The 3d model was made in Rhino and I saved it as a .dwg file because Rhino kept crashing with the command 'make 2d' (file too large maybe :/).
I don't know AutoCAD 3d so now, I'm trying to just change the line layers and eventually plot it all, but sometimes when I save the progress.... AutoCAD will delete sections of my work sometimes :/
Part of of the contract on our current job requires me to export my Inventor model out to a generic .stp format, so our client can use it at their end. Apparently they are using Micro Station, not sure what version yet.
My first attempt I was able to successfully create the .stp file, but it took about 15 hours and was 1.2 gb in file size.
I attempted to open it on another Inventor machine to check the conversion, but after 4 days it was still working on it....
Part of the problem was I just selected the default options when opening the .stp file, which have "import into repair environment" and such on. But this was in Inventor, does Micro Station have similar options? I have yet to try it with these options off. But I'm guessing it will still take way too long to open.
I think my only option is to convert several levels of detail into separate .stp files, not sure on file size of those as of yet. Even though the origins should remain the same, I will have a constant reference object of some kind so the end user can assembly everything correctly....
I have an assembly which consists of parts and holes, when I open a part the holes are not visible as they were created in the assembly - how do I display the holes for these parts that were created in the main assembly when opening a part file ?
I am sure that you must be able to do it...surely..but how can you see images side by side, so that the original is on the left and the edited on the right?
Any information about using the floor command within iLogic. i have written the rule ok and it does not come up with an error. However the rule doesn't actually activate, as the component pattern it is set to gives it 7.6 ul. Inventor then automatically rounds this up, the floor rule should counteract this but does not.
I am trying to figure out how to see the first floor in a five floor building. This model is a 3D Cad file imported into Revit. I need to look inside the building and place equipment on the first floor.
A drawing was downloaded from an Architect's ftp site and placed in a directory. Drawing opened in an Autocad LT workstation displayed all layers from Architects drawing correctly.
Drawing opened in an Autocad 2012 workstation from same server location did not display all the layers. All layers were "on" & "thawed". Tried to copy into drawing but certain layers did not appear again.
Work with many different Architects over the years and this a first. opening same drawing from server.
I currently have my elevation view set up so that the x-coordinates correspond to the stationing along my structure and the y-coordinate corresponds to the elevations. I have a block that will insert the y-coordinate as it should. However, the x-coordinate requires some formatting so that it is shown properly (e.g. "10+00").
I have an attribute equal to a the x-coordinate divided by 100 with the precision changed to 0. So, if my point is 1016.123, the formula converts that to 10. This field is followed by a plus sign and then another field. This last field is equal to the x-coordinate minus the x-coordinate converted as before, then times 100. The purpose being that if my x-coordinate is 1016.123, I would get 16.123 and my block attribute would reflect 10+16.123. The problem is that AutoCAD retains all of the x-coordinate's precision when subtracting and I end up with a result of 0. See attached for clarity - I know this last bit is hard to understand if you can actually see what's going on.
I understand that I could subtract out 1000, but when my stationing is beyond 20+00, I will only be subtracting 1000 and my result will not be correct.
finding out the process from start to finish, with the finishing product being in autocad. Would a architect provide you with a drawn floor plan and then you would draw it up in auto cad?
I've just started creating layers for different parts of my drawing. I have 2 layers so far. One for the floor and one for the walls. When I switch between the layers both the floor and the walls are in the same layer. How do I keep the floor in one layer and the wall in the other?
Im trying to draw this floor plan, Actually I don't understand the dimensioning thats why im having a hard time . I also want to know how to draw the walls on the plan.
Within my road corridor, I have one section where the excavated material cannot be used as fill elsewhere. I see a place where I can specify a factor for reusable volume when I compute earthwork materials. But it looks like I can only use 1 factor for the whole corridor. Is there a way to say from Sta XX+XX to Sta XX+XX the reusable fill factor is 0, but the rest of the project it is something else?
All I can think to do is copy the quantity report to Excel and manually change the reusable volume in that station range to 0. But, since the report comes in as just numbers (no formulas), I then have to enter all the formulas to recalculate the volumes.
First - the alignment station label text size when viewed in model space is fine but when viewed in paper space it comes in way to big. How do i adjust this so i see things in paper space as they are in the model?
Second - Would like to adjust the station label style from the defalt 0+00.00 to 0+000.000
When an alignment needs to have stationing modified, what is the best process for this when a proposed grade line and corridor have been established? I know the proposed grade line can be edited via edit profile geometry>profile grid view.
But what from I have found each station has to be modified individually, which is cumbersome. I would hope to be able to modify the proposed grade line by changing only the beginning station and the rest would update, similar to the alignment.
I have a problem with some station labels I have, when I open the drawing(s) the labels display ??? instead of the station. After I manually sync the alignment in prospector, the drawing switches to the model tab with the ? now showing correctly.
Like entering a station and going there?I've used the 'SO with Zoom C. That is not simple.12+ miles of a single road alignment with 3 equation stations makes for a LOT of panning.
Im trying to make a label that will call out pipe replacement in reference to an alignment. I know how to call out from multiple alignments, but I need multiple stations from the same alignment, such as sta xxx to sta xxx.
Windows 7 x 64 bit NVidia Quadro 2000 Dual Monitor 6.00 GB RAM Intel Xeon W3550 @ 3.07 GHz Civil 3D 2013 SP 2, Civil 3D 2012 SP2, Civil 3D 2011 V3, Civil 3D 2010 V3
I have an alignment that starts at station 1+00 and runs through 20+00.
By right clicking the station labels and editing the label group, I have updated my major station increments to 200' and my minor stations (ticks only) to 100'. The problem is, I want the 200' increments to begin at my starting station (1+00), so that the labels would read 1+00, 3+00, 5+00, etc.
As it is now, the above settings make my labels read: 1+00, 2+00, 4+00, 6+00, etc.
