AutoCAD Inventor :: Display Part Origins In Assembly?
Aug 10, 2013I'm on inventor 2012 and I've not used it in a whlie. I thought I remembered in an assembly there was an origin indicator for each part in an assebly or a way to turn it on. I know I can turn planes and axes on in the origin folder but it would be quicker to just glance at a triad at the part origin. There's a similar command in MAYA called display local rotation axes.

Mar 21, 2013I noticed when creating assemblies, applying a positional constraint, the parts don't move. In order to get the parts to "move" to their constrained position I have to try and drag them with the mouse then they snap into place. Also updating the assembly works as well.
What setting could I have changed so that once I press apply on a constraint it moves the part immediately?

AutoCAD Inventor :: IV2012 API - AddCircularPattern Doesn't Work With Axis From Part In Assembly
Feb 26, 2013There are two cases, that should behave the same, but they don't.
First program works normally. Inventor generates a circular Pattern with the given Part.

Now, the second case, I try to take the Work Axis from a Part, that is placed in the Assembly,
but Inventor does not generate the Pattern. If I set the Axis visible, or even rename it, it works. But the AddCircularPattern does not work.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Imported Excel Sheet Display Half Of Parameters
Jul 18, 2012I'm trying to link an Excel sheet to a new assembly but it is only listing half of the sheet parameters. I have done this before with no issues. I've also imported another sheet and it works fine. I copied and renamed a sheet I know that works deleting the data from it and coping the data I want and I get the same results. This lead me to believe there is something wrong with the sheet. See attached file.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Delete Fillet Without Deleting Half Of The Part At Same Time?
Oct 10, 2011I made a fillet earlier and then continued to work on the part. Now when I try to delete the fillet (to replace it with chamfer) Inventor gives me a box: "delete features" and the middle box can be selected which says "dependent sketches and features". If I check the box and hit ok, some of the unreleated holes and chamfers gets deleted and the fillet I wanted to delete doesn't get deleted. If I uncheck the box, different chamfers and threads dissappear, fillet I wanted to delete stays in place again and yellow box appears on the corner of the part. So what should I do to just delete the fillet and keep everything else?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Simplified Part - Assembly Won't Merge Into One Seamless Part
Dec 11, 2013I would like to simplify this assembly into one seamless part for FEM calculation:The assembly consists out of parts that, in reality, will be welded together. Due to their form, there is no way to place them exactly onto each other, therefore there are slight gaps between the parts:
Now when I try to merge the assembly into one part via "simplify" --> "create simplified part" and choose "single solid body with seams between planar faces merged", Inventor does not fill these gaps (even though it displays only one part in the bottom right corner of my window). Unfortunately, the remaining gaps brings "contact" problems in the FEM simulation.
how to close the gaps and really merge the assembly into one part?

Mar 29, 2012I have a part that has protrusions. When i mate that part up to another part that second part needs to have cutouts/holes to receive those protrusions.
i mainly use it in sheetmetal parts. and use the rectangular protrusions on de contour to mate up with corresponding cutouts in the other sheet. this works with positioning and also makes for a nice weld spot/area.
But also for making holes to accommodate a mold pin used in custom punch dies. I want the intervening part to receive a corresponding (propperly tolleranced) hole automatically. Much like a bolted connection does.
same for parts like circlips. i want them to automatically generate the seat in the part it's mated to. Rather than using the axle generator.
Ofcourse one can place the parts and do an in assembly interpart projection and go from there, but i want the part to generate the (predifined) modification to the other part. It would save time and also reduces problems as the parts are moved about or even removed.

Jan 10, 2013Is there a way to have a view in a sheet that displays a few specific components of an master assembly? There is a motor/gear-box assembly within my master assembly that I don't want to make a separate assembly for BOM purposes, but I want a .ipn view with the motor/gear-box "assembly" exploded. I tried making everything else in the master assembly "not visible" for the particular .ipn view, which works fine, but if I add or replace anything in the master assembly, those additions appear in the motor/gear-box .ipn and screw up the view.
I could just make a whole new assembly for the motor/gear-box and use that for the exploded view, but I would rather the view update to reflect slight changes I make in the motor/gear-box "assembly" from within the master assembly.
So can I create a .ipn view and say, "I want these particular components of an assemly to appear in this view but nothing else"?

Sep 25, 2011The model I have been working on has been trying to change it's colour all day. Finally I had a crash 'graphics adapter stopped working' and when I re-opened the model it had gone all blue. The top level assembly is all blue but the subassemblies are the proper colours when you open them.
I'm updating my graphics driver which should maybe stop the problem re-ocurring but in the meantime I need to get my top level assembly to display as per the colours in the sub assemblies.

Oct 22, 2012I have an assembly that changes daily and drawings made at each step of the way using .dwg format. The problem is, that when I add something to the assembly, it addes it to the drawings already made and as a result losses dims and notes that I made. Is there a way to set the dwgs so that all new items added to the model automaticly are no visible in the drawings that were already created. I spend a lot of time changing old drawing to what they used to be.

Oct 6, 2012I am capturing a book-case design that I made long ago into Intentor. I am almost finished, and I want to produce .dwg files and a bill of materials of parts that can be held.
For various reasons, almost all the items in the existing design are assemblies, and the underlying parts correspond more or less to half of physical parts that are contained inside a repeating cell. I will almost certainly continue using this approach.
A simplified design that shows this is at [URL]..... in the file Display.iam
I created the file Slat.ipt by using derive (Slat.iam).
If I replace the Slat assemblies with the file Slat.ipt, the bill of materials will show parts that correspond to physical parts that I can hold in my hand, or list on an invoice. I can do this with many, many mouse operations.
To make this modification quickly, I attempted to do Component -> replace on the Slat assembly. I use this operation a lot to replace one version of an assembly with another. When I do it with a .ipt file, the system pauses for some tens of seconds, then crashes.
A brute force work around is to use the mouse to do the replacement, essentially rebuilding the entire project in place.
