Jan 10, 2013

I want to find a rectangular flat section of about 250x200cm and a 150x100cm.Is that possible?

I have the content library of ANSI,JIS,GB,ISO and DIN but i can't find anything in these libraries.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Custom Content Center And Frame Generator BOM

May 1, 2012

I am using a student version of Inventor 2012 to design the FSAE Chassis for our University team this year. I was not able to find suitable geometry for the required tubing to make the chassis. So I found a guide on setting up a Custom Content Center and publishing parts. I have followed that. The Chassis has turned out great but now I am trying to draw it up and the BOM is not populating as desired.

A Summary:

-Custom Project file with Read / Write Library added.

-Custom tubing geometry created and published to the Library.

-Chassis constructed using standard Frame Generator techniques.

Previously I had the chassis modelled using standard Content Center parts and the BOM would populate with the individual tubes in the drawing environment. Now with the custom tubes the BOM calls up each of the individual tubing sizes, ONCE only and has large quantities. The automatic "Measure" Column is also populated with "*Varies*".

In the Frame Generator wizard each tubing size has come up as it's own "Family".I believe this is because I have published the different part sizes individually. I am guessing I should have published only the one active part but with variable geometry selectable in the "Size" drop down?

I have tried forcing the assembly into the "All Levels" view with the Bill of Materials pop-up in the Assembly environment, but even this is not populating correctly.Something else I have noticed is the individual tubes are using a different naming convention in the model tree.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Custom Content Center And Frame Generator

May 25, 2011

We have invested much time in creating custom content center family tables based on exisiting  ANSI tables, etc. so that we can suppress sizes and shapes we do not use and have the descriptions and stock numbers show up both so BOM and parts lists will roll up identical parts and as our purchasing department requires.

We have just discovered, however belatedly, that while these custom tables function just fine when placing an individual part, frame generator apparently does not see these and gets it's info from somewhere else. I have seen a similar post which references an McadForums post, but the link provided is dead.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Content Center Error When Trying To Use Frame Generator

Nov 6, 2011

I had Autodesk Inventor 2011 installed for a while, and then installed some other programs (3DS, Maya and Showcase). This caused all of my add-ins to disappear from Inventor. I managed to get them back, but now when I click the 'Insert Frame' button, I get the followin gerror: [WARNING] Problems encountered while executing frame insert command. [ERROR] Failed to read data from Content Center. [ERROR] Content Center server query failed. check your Content Center configuration to make sure all required libraries are present or check Content Center connectivity to server. I've reinstalled Inventor and reinstalled the content center libraries and the error message is still there. The content center configuration in Application Options seems fine.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Frame Generator Not Using Content Center Expressions Consistently

Jun 4, 2013

We have customized the Content Center for Wide Flange Beams to produce BOM Descriptions that match company standards.  They work beautifully until Frame Generator is used.  Frame Generator just seems to do whatever it feels like doing. eg. A simple 4-sided frame made from W6X12, will produce parts with different BOM descriptions and different part numbers even though these fields are populated using expressions in Content Center. Parts of the BOM Description are formatted using the Custom Property Format in the parameters of the Family Template in Content  Center. This formatting is followed at times and ignored at times.

We are using Inventor 2012 SP2, Build 219

AutoCAD Inventor :: Custom Content Centre Shapes And Frame Generator?

Oct 16, 2012

I have been trying to add my own shapes to the Content Centre, with some success, but for being able to use them in Frame Generator. I was able to Author a new part and publish it to Structural Shapes and it works very well. However when I try to use it in Frame Generator there is an issue that I do not understand. Frame Generator recognises the family and all of the different sizes and materials, but when it come to inserting the part, i get the following message:

I am not sure what this means. The part family is in my own library in a seperate category. I don't know what/where template file needs to be and is that the same ipt file that I used to create the Content Centre part/shape? Do I need to create a new Standard rather than "attaching" it to the AS Standard?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Content Center Libraries On Network

Jul 16, 2012

First off, we're not using Vault or ADMS as it's simply not an option at the moment. Possibly down the line - we'll just have to see, but no time in the forseable future.

I had a custom library I created on my local machine, no problems, full read/write access works fine.

Turns out there are a couple of us that need to share the library. I figured, no big deal, we'll just go out on the server and create a folder and copy them all there. I did this and configured inventor to look the server for the files. All seemed OK. It saw the files and I can insert parts into assemblies, etc. Problem is, my custom library is no longer set to Read/Write. It will only do Read Only. If I create a new library to that location, it gets created, but still only lists as Read Only.

In searching here, my guess is it has to do with permissions, but what permissions are required on the file/directory to enable Read/Write access? I already have full access to that network folder and it's contents. Does some sort of system account need added to it? Unless it's simply not possible on a network location, i'm at a loss.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Missing Content Center Libraries

May 16, 2013

I did a (I think) standard install of product suite premium 2013 a while back and am trying my first flexible hose run.

When I hit populate I get an error message saying something like "your request cannot be fulfilled because parts can"t be fetched from the content centre"

Now I see a whole lot of libraries are not available. My only other experience with this was when the mold libraries were not part of the installation and I had to do a huge download.

As far as the missing mold libraries went, I felt that was something the vendor should really have told us about. But let me not get ahead of myself this time, even though it's midnight and I can't do at least 1 run to show for tomorrow.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Adding Content Center Libraries?

Nov 6, 2011

I installed Autodesk Inventor 2012 which I was able to download because I am a student. The version I downloaded however, did not install libraries for the Content Center. The first thing I though was that the Content Center was a feature reserved for purchased versions of the program, but when I head to the downloads section I saw a link to download Content Center Libraries.

I downloaded the ISO and ANSI libraries to try out, and placed them in the directory where Inventor is supposed to search for them. When I started up Inventor, the Content Center was still empty. How can I use the libraries? I suspect Inventor is not reading them because they are Inventor 2010 libraries, but I am unable to use the Update Tool - it appears greyed out.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Using Frame Generator And Vault

May 20, 2011

It seems to me that there is a major disconnect between using the Vault and using Frame Generator.  When creating a frame using frame generator all the parts are automatically named by frame generator.  It gives you a name such ANSI W8x13 00000001 for an I-beam for instance.  As you create more components (I-beams in this case) the number on the end of the file name increases so you have 0000002, 00000003 etc.  After I'm finished with the assembly I will check it into the vault.

The issue comes up when I go to create a new assembly a few days later using the same I-beam.  The naming convention for the I-beam is exactly the same for the new assembly file.  It will start over and give me a new ANSI W8x13 00000001 file.  Now when I go to check it into the vault I get the "cannot check in due to vaulting restrictions" error because the two files have been named the exact same thing.  It seems crazy that Inventor would be set up this way considering how vault works.  The only thing I have found is that you can click the browse button and rename the file.  This is a serious headache though because I have to come up with a unique name (or pre-fix) for EVERY part of EVERY frame that I generate.  And lets just say it's not hard for me to create 100+ new parts a day using frame generator.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Frame Generator Cut Length

The frame generator gives the wrong cut length (G_L) when using double end treatment "Trim and Extend to Face"

See attached screen shot: The correct length of the diagonal RHS should be 1852 mm after trimming the RH end to btm and rh member. As far as I remember this is an old problem never been fixed. Is a lot of work manually altering the cut length of 20-30 member in the BOM.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Frame Generator BSI Standard

May 9, 2012

I created a frame using 150 x 75 BS4 channel section in 2011/12 (can't remember which) however it was created before the BOM length fix (all lengths stated are not necessarily the lengths of the beams). In order to fix this I need to redraw the frame, which is fair enough, however I am unable to find the BSI standard channel section. In fact, BSI has seemed to vanish from my library completely, I can not even place a component from the BSI library.

I have had a look around the C:/Programdata/autodesk/inventor2011(or 12 or 13)/contenetcentre/libraries and have found parker, gost, DIN etc but no BSI. I have not used the frame generator/place component in 2013 yet so no idea if this was from install or not.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Frame Generator WorkFlow

Sep 8, 2011

Recently the company bought a single license of Inventor to test out and see if it meets our company goals and is efficient to use for what we do.  I've been working with the frame generator, which is fairly easy to use and make the initial assembly, but I am having trouble and breaking out individual sections to detail.

I am stuck with using LOD for this platform, provide a general workflow procedure of the best way of creating assemblies and subassemblies.

What I am currently using Inventor is to build a condenser platform. Generally we like to weld as much of it in the shop before it goes to the field for final assembly.  The platform consists of beam supports, grating, stairs, and handrail. In this case we would generally take sections of the handrail and weld in the shop, we would also have the stairs with the handrail welded on it as well. I would like to refrain from converting this to weldment.

I have tried promoting and demoting but this loses constraints and references. Also I cannot create a single skeleton of the whole frame at one time because a lot of the frame members depend on the other members structural sizes (flange width, height, etc.).

I've read of people creating multiple subassemblies and grounding them, but I would like to think that their has to be away that I could just build off of the base skeleton and not have to cycle through different assemblies.
