AutoCAD Inventor :: When Copied Sketch Constrained To Source File

Jul 19, 2013

I read what is in the picture in a skill builder, which is:

[URL]

When is a sketch that is copied to another part file linked to the source file?

I tried it, i copied part of a sketch, some lines, from one part file into a sketch in another part file and there was no link

AutoCAD Inventor :: Why Isn't The Sketch Fully Constrained

Aug 30, 2013

I made this sketch and the two marked dimensions were added when i pressed the Automatic Dimension and Constraints tool, because, in spite of all the dimensions i put manually, the sketch wasn't fully constrained.

Why wasn't it? it seems to me that i gave all the necessary information.

AutoCAD Inventor :: 3D Sketch Not Fully Constrained

Aug 10, 2010

It seems there is a problem with Inventor 3D Sketching. I have a 3D Sketch, with 1 fully constrained vertical line, and another vertical line with an open length. I then join the 2 lines with a line on the top. When I give the top line an angle dimension, I expect it to be fully constrained, but it appears not as the line remains "green".

See attached file.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Extruding A Fully Constrained Sketch

Nov 1, 2012

I'm having trouble extruding a fully constrained sketch. The sketch is a cross-section of a hollow cylinder that is splined on the inside surface (see attached part file). The line segments that create these splines seem to be grouped together because moving one line moves the others, however the sketch will not extrude.

I can't use the coincident constraint button to group the lines because they don't separate from each other. I also tried to use the close loop button but was unable to select all the necessary lines.

how I can extrude this sketch or make an equivalent sketch that is easier to extrude

AutoCAD Inventor :: Extruding Fully Constrained Sketch

Nov 9, 2013

I am trying to constrain a point(on a different part) to the sketch(yellow) on the inside surface of the triangle part. If I try the constraint like how it is now, it only allows me to select one segment, not the entire triangular shaped line. It would work if inventor saw the sketch as one single element, but it of course does not. I tried making a 3d sketch of the inner surface and then constraining to that, but it did not work.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Cannot Move Or Rotate Copied Sketch

Jun 14, 2011

I would like to reuse the existing sketch on the other part. Usually I did it without problems. But now after I have pasted the existing sketch I cannot move or rotate it. While moving or rotating Inventor usually prompts for braking some constraints for this action. But nevertheless it does not allow me to move or rotate. It says something about "constraint settings for sketch edit tools"  -- cannot get any hint of that in a whole phrase nor in part [URL] what else Inventor wants so I can reuse my sketches??

AutoCAD Inventor :: Converting 3D Sketch To 2D Sketch From IGS File Using Wires?

Aug 1, 2011

First we imported an ".igs" file to inventor, which produced "wires".  Then by promoting the wires it produced a 3-d sketch.

The model is in one plane and 2-D, and we are trying to use Ansys 2-D analysis, but in-order to do so it needs to be in a 2-D sketch.

The model is too large to be redrawn on a 2-D plane, how to convert it to a 2-D sketch

AutoCAD Inventor :: Changing Source File Locations

Dec 3, 2011

I have a unique challenge. I use my personal laptop for my CAD work at work. We are now setup with Vault 2012 and Inventor 2012 and we are setup to pull our Templates, standard files and content center parts from the vault.

I have become so busy that I would like to do some of my work at home on evenings and weekends. Other than the obvious problems of having no life and working for nothing, I am having the problem of not being able to access templates or CC parts at home. I can store the CC and templates on my C drive but am not sure where to set Inventor to point to the files on my drive or if there is an easy to do so depending on where I am.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Parts Won't Move That Are Not Fully Constrained?

Nov 6, 2008

This assembly has piping parts that are not filly constrained yet will not move. For example a Tee that has only its centerline mated to a pipe centerline acts like it is fully constrained or grounded. I can demote those parts into a sub-assembly and then they behave normally. I'm wondering if this assembly has some kind of bug, even though no errors are reported and rebuild all doesn't work. Is there any kind of other program that goes through an assembly file and cleans up bugs? The pack n go is 65 MB.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Nut And Bolt Constrained To Allow / Show Motion?

I would like it to work as a driven assembly or if I was to turn or spin the rod by the mouse. AutoCAD Inventor :: Mirroring Constrained Components And Patterns Keeping Constraints

Nov 28, 2012

Coming from a background of ProE, Usually a mirrored group of constrained parts would mirror with alternative constraints locking them in place. Is there a way to do this in Inventor?

Every time I mirror constrained parts through a Datum plane, the results are loose components that could be dragged anywhere. I might aswell have just placed them again, though it gives me a good idea of where they should be.

Without grounding them, is there someway of locking these compents in the mirrored position.

Also, bolted connections pick up on patterned holes and populate them, yet there is only one constraint to the original hole and the rest can rotate around it.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Insert A File Into Sketch API

May 30, 2012

I've been doing some searching on these forums for an API to insert an ACAD file into a sketch.

Is there an API call to do this? I found that I can use the command manager with PostPrivateEvent :

oCmdMgr.PostPrivateEvent(PrivateEventTypeEnum.kFileNameEvent, sFileName)
oCmdMgr.ControlDefinitions("SketchInsertAutoCADFileCmd").Execute

It works great for my purpose BUT it doesn't auto constrain the endpoints, which is essential as I need to extrude /sweep after it has inserted.

There is an option to constrain end points when you manually do the import, but the command manager mustn't have any access to options ? So two questions I guess

1. Is there an API to insert an ACAD file into a sketch ?
2. If there isn't, is there another way to constrain the end points to make a loop after the insert?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Sketch In A View In IDW File

May 22, 2012

I attached a sketch to a view, fully constrained the lines in the sketch to the PG from the lines in the standard view.

Everything looks good but when I click "Finish Sketch" and it leaves the sketch environment the lines from the sketch shift slightly out of alignment.

The dimensions I have to these lines are in the right locations so it looks like they aren't going to the sketch lines.  But if I try to "connect" the dimensions to where the lines are actually being show it gives me errors saying there is nothing there to connect to.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Sort Sketch Blocks In A Part File?

Sep 17, 2012

Is there any method to sort sketch blocks in a part file? All of our sketch blocks are numbered with a profile number. When we create a new multi-body assembly we will often derive 50-100 of them into the master file. It would be great if we could sort them by profile number.

The next best solution would be the ability to create sub-folders to place them in by type (sort of like assembly folders), but I'm pretty sure this isn't possible.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Place 2D Steel Profiles In Part File As Sketch?

Sep 18, 2012

[URL]

I am looking for the best way to place multiple columns in a single part file (as independant parts). I want to do this to accurately represent a steel structure that we purchase with a single part number. The structure is purchased and not modified so I figured a single part file would be better than an assembly file with multiple parts.

I thought the best way would be to extrude a 2D wide flange beam profile. However I would like to just pick the profile from a database (content center?) instead of going through the hassle of sketching each profile manually.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Copy Part Sketch Into Drawing Sketch

Sep 20, 2012

How do I duplicate the 2D line work from a part level sketch into a drawing level (overlay) sketch?

I started a simple 2D piping system diagram sketch by opening a new part file and using a sketch to stick draw the system schematic including some annotations.  Then I opened a new drawing file and made a base view of the part file to bring a view of the original sketch into the drawing.

I realize now that it would have been much easier to have created the schematic directly in a 2D sketch at the drawing level, which would have made editing the annotations much easier at the drawing level, and there is really no need for the part file to exist.  I have no intention of creating a 3D model or "real" part in the .ipt file, was just using it as a jumping off point to sketch.

I was thinking that I could correct my error in judgment by just copying the sketch and pasting it into a new sketch on the drawing, but it doesn't want to work that way.  I have tried copying both the whole sketch at the browser level, and the entire sketch contents (all of the lines and annotations) from the opened part sketch, but when I attempt to paste either of those into the drawing, paste does not seem to be an option.  I'd rather not have to draw the whole thing again, as in typical fashion, my once simple sketch has grown in proportion and complexity from its simple beginning.

What I'm trying to do is, once have drown the "subject" (a light blue drop, in my case), to copy and paste it in order to have other four copies of the same drop, but moved and rotated to create something like a circle..

You can find the original logo I created attached. But I'm not really satisfied with it (this is also why I'm writing here!) =)

I'd like to re-create it and put the drops as in the attached logo....
