AutoCAD Inventor :: Mirroring Constrained Components And Patterns Keeping Constraints

Nov 28, 2012

Coming from a background of ProE, Usually a mirrored group of constrained parts would mirror with alternative constraints locking them in place. Is there a way to do this in Inventor?

Every time I mirror constrained parts through a Datum plane, the results are loose components that could be dragged anywhere. I might aswell have just placed them again, though it gives me a good idea of where they should be.

Without grounding them, is there someway of locking these compents in the mirrored position.

Also, bolted connections pick up on patterned holes and populate them, yet there is only one constraint to the original hole and the rest can rotate around it.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Constraints Components Like FixTogether Of Catia

Mar 15, 2013

I want to constrain two components in an assembly like  "FixTogether" of Catia. In Catia, when FixTogether constraint is applied to two components and one component moves, the other moves such that relative position of two components does not change.

No geometry is required to constrain components.I tried some combinations of constraints with Origin point and planes, but could do like Catia.Note that in my case two components are in Library and cannot be edited.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Semiautomatic Or Automatic Constraints While Placing Components From Library

Mar 5, 2013

I am looking for solution for my problem which concerned placing a lot of standard elements in assembly. The assembly is a frame which consists of standard profiles and those elements are standard fasteners. All from item24. I have 3-5 fasteners in library (about 200 of every kind in assembly) which are placed in standard way (three constraints). The frame is a normal assembly, not a frame generator, unfortunately. What I want is a way or functionality for placing those fasteners in fast way with ability to choose proper geometry of profiles and other parts (holes).

The best way would be to use it like bolts and washers from content center with idrop/i-drop functionality. I have never published my own library to Content Center, but yesterday I spent a lot of time reading that its hardly possible to use this i-drop for personal purpose. I found only opinions, but no examples.

Another nice thing would be the ability to have constraints preloaded at the moment of placing element in assembly and select only proper geometry of profiles and parts in proper order. I'm thinking of i-mate with only one half (I haven't use them much). Unfortunately I haven't managed to do that using i-mates - they start working only when there is another part with i-mate in assembly and pair with them. I couldn't find any materials about how to use i-mates in a way I have described. I don't want to use alt+drag.

Is there a way to speed up placing 3000 constraints in several projects?

I am using Inventor 2011.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Parametric Assembly - Control Size Of Components And Patterns

Jan 28, 2013

I am currently working on a parametric assembly using i Logic to control the size of the components as well as patterns. However, I have hit a road block in trying to figure out how to write a rule for resizing the last roof sheet in this assembly pictured below to be even with the frame. The rule below is what controls the roof sheet pattern based on the frame length. The problem I am continually running into is how do you modify a part which is in an element within the pattern without having it affect the rest of the parts in the pattern since they all refer to part. I can get since it is hard to find information on i Logic.

Roof_Pattern_Spacing = Roof_Sheet_Width
Roof_Pattern_Count=Ceil(Parameter("Length")/Parameter("Sheet Metal Roof Section:1", "Roof_Sheet_Width"))

(Note: The red line symbolizes where I would like to have the roof sheet end.)

AutoCAD Inventor :: Objects In Mirroring Of Object Change With Object Used As Reference For Mirroring

Aug 6, 2012

I got a simple question about the creation of copies of an object. Is it possible to have the objects in the mirroring of an object change with the object used as reference for mirroring?

If there is no function to do this directly is there a way to do it via Ilogics to update the mirrored objects? If possible even by deleting and creating a new the mirroring yet not manually but by i logic?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Using Parameters In Constraints - Drive Multiple Constraints?

Aug 10, 2012

I need to drive more than one constraint at a time.  The assembly consist of a hydraulic ram that pulls a cable which is routed around a few pullys and then pulls another linear moving member.  I don't really care about modeling the cable right now, I just want the cylinder piston and the final member to move in unison.   I can only drive one constraint at a time, so I figured I could relate the two constraints together by setting them equal to a parameter (variable), but that isn't working.  Is it me or is driving multiple constraints at a time something that would be very useful for a lot of applications?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Coincident Constraints Becoming Fixed Constraints

Aug 28, 2013

I'm modeling cables running through a series of cable clamps.  I'm working in an assembly with my structure as one part, clamps as seperate parts, and cables as separate parts.  I modeled the clamps first and am using them to create my 3d spline to run the sweep.  The clamps have moved several times and each time, the sweeps (cables) do not update to follow the new clamping path.  I have tried multiple ways of solving this.

I've tried to redo the splines using "Include Geometry" and running the spline through the centers of the clamps. I've also deleted the constraints (which for some reason turn into fixed) and reapplied them as coincident constraints. However, once I setup these coincidences, they always change back to fixed.

In a last ditch method, I've created 2d sketches at EVERY clamping location (yes that's alot of sketches, time and effort) and projected the circular geometry to get a center point.  This has seemed to work, but is so much work, there's no way we could use it regularly.

This assembly has piping parts that are not filly constrained yet will not move. For example a Tee that has only its centerline mated to a pipe centerline acts like it is fully constrained or grounded. I can demote those parts into a sub-assembly and then they behave normally. I'm wondering if this assembly has some kind of bug, even though no errors are reported and rebuild all doesn't work. Is there any kind of other program that goes through an assembly file and cleans up bugs? The pack n go is 65 MB.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Extruding A Fully Constrained Sketch

Nov 1, 2012

I'm having trouble extruding a fully constrained sketch. The sketch is a cross-section of a hollow cylinder that is splined on the inside surface (see attached part file). The line segments that create these splines seem to be grouped together because moving one line moves the others, however the sketch will not extrude.

I can't use the coincident constraint button to group the lines because they don't separate from each other. I also tried to use the close loop button but was unable to select all the necessary lines.

how I can extrude this sketch or make an equivalent sketch that is easier to extrude

I am trying to constrain a point(on a different part) to the sketch(yellow) on the inside surface of the triangle part. If I try the constraint like how it is now, it only allows me to select one segment, not the entire triangular shaped line. It would work if inventor saw the sketch as one single element, but it of course does not. I tried making a 3d sketch of the inner surface and then constraining to that, but it did not work.

I can achieve the same result by counting the various lengths but I'm hoping there's a simpler solution.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Constraints On Gimbal Not Working?

Nov 22, 2013

Trying to create a gimbal with a supporting frame, an outer square frame, and an inner square frame. when i insert the outer square frame into the supporting frame, i constrain it so that the axis of the hole i have drilled in my frame and the axis of the hole through my supporting frame are aligned, i then constrain a face of it to be a set distance from a parralel face of the supporting frame to centralise it. this works ok, and i can rotate this frame as i like. When, however i insert the inner frame and constrain the axes of the holes drilled through it to the axes of the other holes drilled through the outer frame, and two faces to be a set distance apart, it allows me to rotate my inner frame, but no longer allows me to rotate my outer frame! what have i over-constrained?
