AutoCAD Inventor :: Tangential Movement

Dec 14, 2012

I'm working on a little trackless train at the moment. I have a working model of the train going around a curve, but I cheated a bit, by constraining the center points of the axles to the curve, and then had the wheels angles based off the drawbar angles.

I have began working on a more accurate version, where the angled wheels are what drives the carts around the curve. Long story short, if you have a thin playing card in Inventor, how can you restrict motion in the normal direction, allowing the card only to translate tangentially no matter how it is orientated in the model space?

Constraints are all based on relationships between two parts. Is there such a thing as restricting a part's movement in certain directions?  The reason I ask, is I would like the wheels to follow the direction they are oriented (not being dragged in a normal direction, something resembling slip motion).

Essentially, I would like to do this without using contact friction between the ground and the wheel (which is what actually makes the wheel follow the direction of its orientation in real life).

AutoCAD Inventor :: Contour Flange On Tangential Arcs

Oct 15, 2013

I have sketched a fan casing which consists of a series of tangential arcs. The sketch is fully defined but when I try to use "Contour Flange" I get the following error:

Sheet Metal: Contour Flange Creation failed.
19-3-101-26-2.ipt: Errors occurred during update
The attempted operation did not produce a meaningful result. Try with different inputs.
Try decreasing bend radius
Feature Compute failed.

My guess is the end points of the arcs are not defined correctly but I do not know how to fix. I have attached the file.

AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Constrain Movement In Slot

Jan 9, 2013

I have one problem and I would like to get your opinion how I could solve this.

I can't share models I have problem with, but I made another with the same problem.

I have two parts - one with slot, another with "pin". How to constrain the "pin" to always move in slot?

I had some ideas but non of them worked for me:

1. Use the Transitional constrain came first in mind, but it gives unsuspected results in this situation. Pin part is jumping around and ends up contrained in another place ir should be.

2. Contact solver kind of do the job, but it works quite bad. I gives no control or accuracy (i can not control how much pin is moved out)

3. I even thought of point on 3d sketch constrain, but it can not be done

How you would suggest to constrain the movement? I hope I stated problem clear enough.

I attached model files. I use Inventor 2013

AutoCAD Inventor :: Underground Scoop - Animate Movement

Jul 2, 2013

I am have a model of a scoop that I would like to animate to show motion and check for interference and clearance.I was told by a friend the best way to create and assembly is to create it as it would be built.

Doing this, I created the cylinders and added to them to the main assembly as an assembly, but I am having trouble controlling movement. I checked off flexible for each cylinder but using the mouse to try and position the scoop bucket and front frame is undesirable. I know I could apply mate constraints to check for clearances and movements, But seeing the scoop move in a regulated motion would be need. Could possibly be used for marketing purposes as well.

Is using dynamic simulation or studio better? I have heard good things about the Wasim Younis Series - book

Does his books get into how a model should be assembled/created before trying simulations? The boom moves off yellow cylinder and the bucket moves off the red cylinderA 4 way joystick controls this movement (hydraulically), is it possible to simulate a joystick to control this animation?

The blue cylinder is controlled by a 2 way valve, that steers the front frame.I know uploading a model is the best way to get fast accurate solutions, however this model is currently over 200 parts, so I figured a .DWF export was the easiest way to give you a visual representation.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Part Movement Constraints In Assembly

Jan 20, 2012

In an assembly we can set driven constraints to drive parts etc.. or we can set the contact solver to show contacts.

Is it possible to set something like a driven constraint but so it is flexible between the set parameters?

when creating designs i like to move stuff around with the mouse to see how it works and the potential problems that might arise etc.. however  i would like to still move stuff around with the mouse but restrict the movements with constraints.

so if you have a hingy flappy thing, the constraints would be set so it can rotate round the hinge as required but also an angular constraint could be set do it would work between set angles, say 0 to 50 degrees and if it gets to the limit it stops?

Is this possible, I think it would be very useful?

AutoCAD Inventor :: 2010 - Limit Component Movement When Constraining?

Feb 13, 2013

Why is it that when you create the first constraint between any two components, the secondary component moves not only to satisfy the constraint, but also in ways that have nothing to do with the constraint.   This is not occasional behavior, it happens every time.

I always have to stop and move the secondary component back out of the way to get to the other features I need to reference to continue.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Stress Analysis Results - Movement Not Consistent

Dec 16, 2011

I have a stress analysis result that doesn't make sense to me. I have a flat plate, that is loaded with 100psi equally throughout the surface. I have an array of bolt holes that are 120mm x 109mm spacing. When I do the simulation and look at deflection, I see more movement on the ends. I expected the movement to be consistent eveywhere?

Is this an Inventor issue, or are my expectations in error?

On a side bar, is there a better way to constrain holes than on their edges? I would think that would give errors on the stress levels due to the point (line) contact.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Stress Analysis Constraints With Both Translational And Rotational Movement

Jun 13, 2013

I'm attempting to model a spreader bar that we have in the workshop to estimate what load it should be certified for.  It will be suspended froma 2 chain sling attached to the outside top lugs and the load suspended from the bottom outside lugs.

My problem is that simply constraining the inside faces of the top lugs with pin constraints results in erroneous values as the lugs can't move relative to each other.  The other method I've tried is constraining the same faces using a fixed constraint and de-selecting the z-axis.  Now they can move but I end up with large stresses inside the lugs as they attempt to resist the moment that's now been created.

Is there any way to select individual degrees of freedom (both rotational and translational) or at least set up the simulation in such a way that the constraints accurately represent reality?

AutoCAD 2010 :: Slow Jerky Mouse Movement After Accessing Block Editor Or Xref-editing

May 19, 2009

This was originally posted under 2009 - but I have this issue in 2010!

The old post was: Block Editor Posted: Aug 1, 2008 7:01 PM

When I go into block editor, edit the block then close it out. My cursor is really jerky in model space. Especially bad when I go into a command and try to select something. The only way to get rid of the jerkiness is to close auto cad and restart it. Is there anyway to cure this?

I have 2010 and am experiencing this exact same problem. It is intermittent and will sometimes 'go away' after a few minutes. Block editing is definitely related as a cause. I use SDI = 1 predominantly and it seems to be session independent. In other words one drawing session is experiencing the problem but jumping to another concurrent session exhibits no issues.

Task manager shows off the chart 99% plus on process ACAD when it is occurring.

Palette transparency is off globally. I have installed the latest NVidia driver for my Quadro NVS 285 video card. I am running a 3GHz P4 with 4 Gigabytes of ram - Dell Precision 380 workstation. Block Editor background color is default.

Restarting AutoCAD does make it go away - for the moment - but it is soon back. Even closing all tool palettes has no effect.

This does seem to be drawing specific - 2010 seems to be sensitive to something in older drawing blocks - prototype drawings from hotel vendors for instance - most likely inherited from a third party DXF process exhibit the issue heavily - and blocks from these drawings to a lesser degree. I have to constantly purge, audit, and wblock/replace my drawings to keep them clean. My default file type is 2010 which 'seems' to work, but it still happens. Audits show constant drawing errors cropping up, and repeating an audit, shows the same errors until a wblock replace is performed.

Photoshop :: CS6 - Cursor Movement Locks?

Aug 2, 2013

I have just got CS6 and I am having problems with the brushes tool when drawing, moving a cursor values, moving images and so on. Although I am moving the brush, on screen it appears as if it wasn't moving at all, and the circle around the brush appear, as if the brush was stationary, and a line starts to appear around the brush cursor creating a circle, when this circle is complete, it bring the left-click menu (when using brush tool).

It's frustrating, becase a 5 min job ends up taking 20mins instead. I'm having to do really exaggerated cursor movements for the circle to not appear around the cursor and actually register movement, but by that point, the movement is so exaggerated that it messes up the drawing or piece I am working with..This didn't happen with CS3 when I was using it yesterday, but has been happening since the beginning with CS6.

Photoshop :: Cursor Movement Not Smooth

Jan 1, 2009

I just decided to try out Vista and installed the 32bit version. Following that I installed Photoshop CS3, but when using it some weird problem occurs.

When I use certain cursor types (for example the marquee tool or brush) the movement of the mouse feels a bit "laggy" or wobbly - it's difficult to describe. It's not as precise tracking as if I use move tool or the color picking tool (eyedropper tool it's called) - when I use these tools there are no problems at all and the cursor movement feels good.

This issue seems really odd to me - does anyone got some possible explanation to this?

For your information my hardware setup is like this:

Intel Q9450 2,66 Ghz cpu
4GB DDR2 memory
Asus P5K/EPU motherboard

Photoshop :: Tween Movement With Puppet Warp

May 2, 2013

First of all, Photoshop is only available at my school for the time being, so I can't provide screenshots. I'll try to explain properlly though. Basically, I'm just looking into having a man bend down to talk to someone for an animation, and to provide frames in between. I already have the timeline up, and I know how to use the puppet warp. I want to automatically have new frames created in the timeline in between the ones of the man standing and bending. These are my attempts of what I tried to do.

I duplicated the layer of the man. One of the man standing, and one bending down. In the timeline view, I opened up my layers and clicked the stop watch under the "Position" option of both layers. I don't recall what happened, but this attempt didn't work. With the two layers, I tried editing in the stop frame view. I clicked the two frames of both layers, and clicked "Tween" below. I then chose how many frames I want to have be created in between, and the result gave me frames of an opacity difference. In other words, it was fading from the man standing to bending.I had a single layer that I was planning to work with this time in the stop frame view. When I used the Puppet Warp for frame 2, I think I recall it was working fine. But when I tried tweening the two frames, I ran into another opacity problem, and I think I recall the first frame changing into the warped frame.

So is there a way to tween motion in Photoshop?

VideoStudio :: X2 Stuttered Movement In Imported Projects?

Oct 27, 2010

When importing a HD project (not rendered footage) into another HD project in VSX2, the movement of objects in the rendered AVCHD is 'stuttered' - why ?This is NOT a transition or title stutter as per one of my previous posts - which was resolved by downloading the trial version of VSX3.

In VSX2 I have cut down my AVCHD source film into smaller, more manageable chapters - each a separate VSX2 project. When assembling these chapters, I chose the "import project" (ex chapter 2 into chapter 1) as I used to do with UMSP7.0 Once BD-RE is cooked, the first chapter looks fine but the subsequent chapters have very noticeable problems with movement - especially vehicles moving accross the screen - it looks like the frame rate has gone right down to 10fps (iso 25 for PAL).

Oddly enough (I would have thought it should be the opposite), if I render each chapter to AVCHD and then import the rendered chapters, image movement is much smoother (virtually same as original). The project properties are all the same in each project (PAL AVCHD 1920X1080 25fps); I have tried activating the 2-pass render and have tried switching on and off the anti-flicker but no improvement.

The "import project" feature that I used in UMSP7 is great because it allows you to create the chapters independently but then put some uninterrupted music over the links between chapters in the final project to ensure continuity if desired.

Paint Shop Pro :: Constrained Movement Of A Layer

One feature I can't seem to find, if it exists at all, even though it really should, is the ability to move a layer while constraining it horizontally or vertically.

In PSE/PS you can hold down the Shift key when dragging layers to keep it on the X or Y axis allowing the layer to be positioned without it drifting in the wrong direction.

Can PSP X4 do this, and if so, how?
