AutoCAD Inventor :: Suppress Component In Multiple Level Of Details
Feb 7, 2012
You are using an assembly with many LODs. Each time you place a component in your assembly , that one will be active in all level of Details. For some configurations, you would like one component to be active in only one LOD. Inc.

I often use multiple versions of components in my assemblies so I can validate the top level assy works in all it's expected configurations. To that end, if I have different versions of component A, I supress all except the version I am working with. I have discovered though, that supressing the component does not supress the contraints that component has to an unsupressed component in the assy.
The purpose of suppressing something is to essentially eliminate it from existance without deleting it from the file so it can be brought back quickly in all its glory. If I have to track down every contraint there is for a supressed component and supress them independently, that is an incredible consumption of time.

I was wondering if there was a way to suppress a component in the main assembly, and keep it from appearing in the parts list whenever I create one in the idw. environment? I am creating an iassembly, and generating different file versions from the main assembly in my table. In order for me to create different versions off of this main assembly, it is required that I suppress certain sub assemblies or components. I can't get the suppressed componenets to not show up in my parts list when I create it. I turned off enabled and visibility and it still appears in the BOM. Creating a different level of detail doesn't even solve this.
I know I can manually not have it show up in the BOM, but it becomes very time consuming trying to make certain rows not appear in the BOM table.

I have a rectangular component pattern which started out with all components. As more structure was added around it I started supressing different elements to suit, now a piece of structure has gone thru element 1 but i dont seem to be able to supress it... is there an easy way to get rid of element 1 without having to redefine the pattern? (redefining causes me other problems)

I need to suppress a pattern in an 2nd level subassembly. But is only able to do it in the same level where the pattern is placed etc:
If Length < 3000 mm Then
Component.IsActive("1 st level subassembly", "Name of pattern in 1nd level subassembly") = False
End If
But if i do it with an MakePath... etc.:
If Length < 3000 mm Then
Component.IsActive(MakePath("1 st level subassembly", "2 nd level subassembly", "Name of pattern in 2nd level subassembly")) = False
End If
If Length < 3000 mm Then
Component.IsActive(MakePath("1 st level subassembly", "2 nd level subassembly"), "Name of pattern in 2nd level subassembly") = False
End If
is it not possible to suppress a pattern by an MakePath?

In order to reflect production process, I have to create holes on the bent pipe at assembly level after 2 bent pipes are welded to the straight pipe. Now when I suppress holes, it does not suppress only at LOD or view rep but throught the whole assembly.
Is it possible to suppress features such as hole using LOD or view rep, which are made at the assembly level? or I have to use another method? See below in highlighted.

I inserted a design component of a concrete wall and the hatch pattern came in with ansi31 instead of a concrete pattern and it is filled in. I dragged another wall style from tool palette and instead of the conc pattern, I'm getting the ansi31 pattern. Also tried the 3" base course with a gravel pattern and got the same thing.

I need a way to run a rule which is saved in my top-level assembly using iLogic rule which is saved in a part file in the parent assembly.
I have even tried using an external rule in a txt file, but that gives the error "Component: This function can only be used in an assembly." - which makes no sense to me. I hope I am just missing something simple. I cant believe with all its other strengths, that iLogic would be so limited in that regard. Why is there not simply a snippet under the 'Run Other' that allows you to specify an assembly file and the rule name? (like there is for running a rule in a component from the assembly)

I have created an assembly with multiple views to show the multiple configurations of our products. However, half way down the line I realized I had forgotten to place a component. When I placed the component, I found that it had been placed in all the views automatically. Is there a way to select the views to place the components in or to prevent the component from being placed in any of the custom views except the default view?

I use a "dump assembly" of assemblies to create cut lists. I throw in multiple copies of each assembly for the job. Sometimes it can be 100 or so of each. These are not placed in any way and could be all placed at the origin. This is only for the parts list and servers no other function.
Any way to place multiple instances of an assembly at once?

So I have been going round and round in circles on this one iam trying to use replace component within ilogic which is fine with switching one part for another but I want a drop down of parts so it replaces which ever one is active the problem I am having is establishing which one is active. So below is what I have so far but the problem is you cant seem to reference a part that is not in the assembly so I keep getting the error
The component named "Flange 1" was not found for example. I just need a way of establishing which one is currently in the assembly but with out referencing components that are not there.
If Component.IsActive("Flange 1")=True Then current = 1
If Component.IsActive("Flange 2")=True Then current = 2
If Component.IsActive("Flange 3")=True Then current = 3
If part = 1 And current = 2 Then Component.Replace("flange 2", "Flange 1.ipt", True) End If
If part = 1 And current = 3 Then Component.Replace("flange 3", "Flange 1.ipt", True) End If
If part = 2 And current = 1 Then Component.Replace("flange 1", "Flange 2.ipt", True) End If
If part = 2 And current = 3 Then Component.Replace("flange 3", "Flange 2.ipt", True) End If
If part = 3 And current = 1 Then Component.Replace("flange 1", "Flange 3.ipt", True) End If
If part = 3 And current = 2 Then Component.Replace("flange 2", "Flange 3.ipt", True) End If

We are having an issue when we replace a component in Inventor Pro 2012. When we replace a component, the name in the browser does not update to the new component. We've even tried to close and re-open the Inventor assembly and that does not work. We end up manual double clicking the name in the browser and type in the new component name.

II need a way to tell if a component occurence is a virtual component.
I'm using a For Each loop to cycle through all of the components in an assembly, and if the component is itself an assembly to set the LOD to "Custom". I'm using the definition document descriptor object for this. It all woks fine until the loop comes across a virtual component which doesn't have a definition document, so I need a way to check if the component is virtual and needs to be skipped. Here's the
Option ExplicitImports Inventor.LevelOfDetailEnumSub MainiLogicVb.UpdateWhenDone = TrueDim doc As AssemblyDocumentDim oLOD As LevelOfDetailRepresentationDim oAsmCompDef As ComponentDefinitionDim oComp As ComponentOccurrenceDim oComps As ComponentOccurrencesdoc = ThisDoc.DocumentIf.
[code]....

How you can have multiple details on one sheet but there are several different scales. Some are 3'-0"=1'-0", some are 1 1/2"=1'-0'. Then when you set up the sheet you just make different view ports. But i don't understand how you can draw them all in model space in difference scales.

I am trying to make port rims for pipes that can be swapped in and out of an assembly. However, the ports will all be different sizes and located differently so I need the cut to be part of the port rim component, but affect the entire assembly it is part of. I've been trying to get this to work for the better part of a day now,Here's a picture of what im talking about. I'm running Inventor 2008 by the way.

I have an assembly which has a few components suppressed.
My end results is another copy of the assembly (with copies of the all the parts) in another directory
Now i am able to create copies of un-suppressed parts using; (this allows me to SaveAs assembly components which are not suppressed)
DocumentsEnumerator = ThisDoc.Document.AllReferencedDocuments
And save a copy of the assembly using
ThisDoc.Document.SaveAs
I also added the fllowing snippet (which I am not sure what is does), but it does not work for me
Component.SkipDocumentSave = true
When I open the newly created assembly, I still see the suppressed components in the model browser
I want to either;
Skip saving the of the components in the model browser (i.e. the Assembly)
OR
Delete the suppressed parts in the Assembly, so that they do not save altogether

I am trying to make a way that suppress the flange features of all the panels that will be insert in the assembly so i can suppress all the features at ones in a assembly and don't have to do that for each panel separately.
I have a assembly with parameters and i have a part with no geometry but have linked the parameters from the assembly. In my panel part i link the parameters to the part with no geometry.
When i use the parameter in the assembly to suppress the flanges that works the way i want it. But when i insert the panel part into that assembly it doesnot work.

given I do a foreshortened view. Is there a way to fit the shortenings parameters to a view in a different window with a different reference file?
If not it would be a little awkward to achieve exactly the same result with a different file. As replacing references does´nt work with single view representation I´m stuck with manual- non constrained alignment of view details... which can´t be right I guess.
if there was a way to do it "right" without the need to switch to AutoCAD.

Would there be a way to make an array 1-100 and just say suppress/unsupress "KepsNut" & array list of numbers. To basically add the two strings and find all the components in that array and turn them off or on.!
