AutoCAD Inventor :: Removing Attributes From An Assembly

May 28, 2012

I'm making a site layout that brings together a bunch of large file assemblies and it's bogging my computer down,

so what I'm trying to do is remove the attributes from the assemblies and make it a block with no moving parts(hope this makes sense). I just need it to look like the parts.

Remove the attributes from this block.

I just want to be left with the block with all its rotate and stretch features but with no option to add in text when I double click it.

AutoCad 2D :: Removing / Hiding Block Attributes?

Jun 3, 2013

I've just been sent some layouts by our planning team and they have attributes stating the size and name of all the furniture.

How can I quickly hide or delete the attributes as for my purposes the text is irrelevant and gets in the way?

I have tried the BATTMAN command but it doesn't seem to let me delete all of the attributes I have to leave one on each block. Currently all of the attributes are on the same layer as the lines (layer 0.)

AutoCad :: Replace / Redefine Block Removing Attributes

Aug 27, 2007

I'm working with some "dirty" blocks that contain several attributes. I've cleaned the blocks up by wblocking, cleaning, & purging the newly created block. I also removed any attributes within the file, including those within blocks within the file. I then renamed the file and inserted it into the drawing, and did a replace block with another through express tools. The problem that I have is the blocks are replaced with the clean version, yet the attributes remain. Is there a solution to this. I do not want any attributes to remain and the only way I know how to fix it is to replace them one at a time.

Also, I'm using AutoCAD 2004.

AutoCAD Inventor :: ILogic Assembly Has Double User Request At Inserting In Assembly

Sep 18, 2012

We have an iLogic assembly with to parts in it. Maybe to cylindrical parts. The iLogic rules should do the following.

1. Start a Rule after open document.

2. This Rule starts a Rule in the first cylindrical component.

3. This Rule ask the user for a diameter.

4. The assembly gives this new parameter value to the second component

5. Then the assembly calls another rule in the second component to change it with the new parameter

Everything is working fine when the following combinations are taking place:

1. I open up the assembly out of vault or from a local drive or an accessible server drive

2. I insert the assembly as sub assembly in another assembly from a local drive or an accessible server drive

It don't work with the following situation:

- I insert the assembly as sub assembly in another assembly out of vault

Then the user becomes the dialog "Choose a diameter" twice.

I don't know why, but I have the idea it has something to do with the functionality of inventor to insert a component more than once. If you insert a component in an assembly Inventor gives you the opportunity to add more than one occurence after each other.

change that behaviour? Maybe a switch to change that inventor "add more than one occurence" behaviour.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Tube And Pipe Assembly Styles Don't Translate Into Other Assembly Files

Feb 9, 2012

I have encountered a problem with the Tube and Pipe styles.

As you can see, I have a rack assembly with a custom tube and pipe style. A wire as a tube in orange, and a tube support in white. Both have their seperate colorations at a style in the tube and pipe styles editor

When placing the rack assembly into the main assembly, it reverts to the coppor coloration I changed from the original style.

Steps I've taken:

Exported the styles .xml and Imported the styles into the master tubeandpipe.iam

Imported the user created .xml styles into the main assembly file nothing seems to work

AutoCAD Inventor :: Find Interior Volume Of Assembly By Subtracting Assembly From Block

Apr 23, 2012

I am trying to find the interior volume of an assembly (when am I not?!?!) by subtracting the assembly from a block that surrounds the most of it.  Somewhere the assembly has a "leak" and I have been trying to use the Cross Section Analysis to track down where the inside lump is connected to the outside lump to be subtracted.  Is there a less time consuming way to dynamically drag a plane across and get cross sectional views?

Even better is there a simple way to animate the analysis plane moving across the block so I can hopefully just watch and pause it when I find a leak?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Make Sub Assembly From Parts From Main Larger Assembly?

Oct 31, 2011

My assembly has grown (about 50 parts) to where I need to consolodate some parts into subassemblies for reuse and alternate iterations of the basic design.

When I import the original parts into a new assembly, all of the constrains I created are not there of course.

I've tried creating a new empty part and then deriving a new part from the assembly, but I can't add, delete or edit any parts.

I looked at using Shrinkwrap, Substitutes, iParts, Multi-body Parts, and Multiple Solids but I remain confused.

In retrospect, maybe I should have created the subassemblies between the part and assembly stage but I didn't.

I want to be able to control the location/position of a component in an assembly. This is easy enough through the iProperties/Occurrence tab and then adjust the location of the X,Y, and Z offsets. Is this possible using iLogic? I have been unable to find a function to access via iLogic. Ultimately I am trying to translate a component about an axis not a pattern.

I need to rotate several blocks at once with PROPERTIES, because I don't have time to rotate each one separately.

The same thing happens when scaling blocks, but this was resolved using the command BSCALE in the command line.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Using VBA To Access Attributes

Oct 7, 2011

My company has an excel program that extracts data from AutoCAD title blocks, processes it, turns it into printable spradsheet BOM's, and uploads the data to our ERP software.  We're currently starting a transition form AutoCAD to Inventor.  I've been asked to figure out how to make our excel program work with Inventor.

I'm hoping (but not expecting) to be able to change some lines around in the section that deals with extracting data and get it to work that way. I'm pretty sure of what needs to change, but I'm not so sure what it needs to change to. Does anyone know of any resources that someone who just started programming a couple weeks ago (me) could look at to learn more about how Inventor interfaces with VBA?

The other possible route I see is to export drawings from Inventor into AutoCAD.

The excel program reads block attributes. I've read that Inventor's version of attributes is prompted entry text, however, when I export Inventor drawings with prompted entry text lines that match the attribute lines from the old AutoCAD block they come in different.  They're not editable inside of AutoCAD and the excel program doesn't see them.  I haven't the slightest idea what's happening here.

A third way would be to use Inventor's iProperties, but there again, I don't know where to find information for the coding side.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Attributes On Border Definitions

Aug 23, 2013

I have been having trouble storing attributes on border definitions.  I have multiple borders which need to be used for different types of drawings.  I have developed a tool which will use the desired border pragmatically and it works as planned.  Currently the logic selects a border based on name, but since this can be edited by the user I need a more dependable way of retrieving a border.  I had thought attributes would be the answer, but I'm running into problems.  The attributes just won't stick.  I've tried to add them manually through the API and with the Attributes Helper tool released.

See below for the code I'm using to add the attributes

Dim oAttr As Inventor.Attribute Dim oAttrSet As AttributeSet Set oAttrSet = oBorderDef.AttributeSets.Add("TestAttributeSet", True) oAttrSet.Copy = True Set oAttr = oAttrSet.Add("TestAttribute", kIntegerType, 12345) Debug.Print oAttrSet.Parent.Parent.Name & " " & oAttrSet.Name & " " & oAttr.Name & " " & oAttr.Value

It will print information leading me to believe that the attribute was added, but if I try to retrieve it either through the attributemanager or manually cycling through the border definitions no attributes exist.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Appearances Attributes In Library

Nov 15, 2013

Is it possible to save an attribute to an appearance then save it to a library? I would like to store some finish data that can be accessed later from the api. I can apply the attribute to all the necessary renderstlyes and use the SaveToGlobal() method. It seems to work great in the part the program is run from, but when I go to the next part and apply the same appearance it does not contain the new attribute. I have also tried creating a copy of the appearance in the document then save that to the library, but any appearances that I edit or create programmatically will not save to the library even if manually drag it within the appearance editor. My project show the material and appearance libraries set to read/write and if I create an appearance thought the editor I can move it to the library without any problems, it's only the items created/modified through the api that will not move. I am running Inventor 2013 SP2.

AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Hide Components Without Removing The Associativity

Dec 23, 2013

I have an assembly I'm working in, and it would be useful to hide some of them because I'm still adding parts to it, and I cannot see. When I turn off visibility to some of the parts, I get a dialogue asking if I wish to remove associativity. This is because I'm driving the location of some holes off of other parts in the assembly. Is there no way to hide some of these components without removing the associativity? I just want to be able to see inside of here, not get rid of the components altogether.
