AutoCAD Inventor :: Read Derived Parts And Assemblies Using Apprentice Server (2011)

Jun 24, 2013

I´m trying to access ComponentDefinition.ReferenceComponents.DerivedPartComponents using Apprentice Server but it tells me "Not implemented". Is there any other way to figure out whether a component is derived or not?

AutoCAD Inventor :: BOM Parts And Assemblies Are Read Only

Oct 30, 2008

I have some BOM parts and an assembly that are read only and I need to be able to enter information in the bill of materials under the status column and the comments column. The BOM parts are i-parts and the assembly is an i-assembly. Is there a way to set them to read or is this a limitation?

I have changing the parameters of an inventor document using the inventor API by create an instance e of inventor and open the document, but it  take more time .is it possible to use Apprentice Server to change the parameters of the document.?

My code is

Dim oPartDoc As PartDocument = inventorApp.ActiveDocument Dim oParameters As Parameters oParameters = oPartDoc.ComponentDefinition.Parameters() Dim oLengthParam, oWidthParam, oHeightParam As Parameter oLengthParam = oParameters.Item("d0") oWidthParam = oParameters.Item("d1") oHeightParam = oParameters.Item("d2") oLengthParam.Expression = TextBox1.Text oWidthParam.Expression = TextBox2.Text oHeightParam.Expression = TextBox3.Text oPartDoc.Update()

how can achieve the same method using ApprenticeServer?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Changing Display Name Of Components Using Apprentice Server

Jan 10, 2014

I'm using Apprentice Server to change the display name of components.

My

objInvDoc = objapprenticeServerApp.Open(strFileName)objInvDoc.DisplayName = strDisplayName

Something odd happens: I have two parts, last saved with exactly the same Inventor-Build (2011 SP1 (Build 150282100, 282)). After changing the display name of these two parts, the debugger shows the correct value for the DisplayName-Attribute. But when I open the files, Inventor displays the correct value for one file, but not for the other. In the corrupted file, the old value is displayed.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Filter Files For Copy Process With Apprentice Server?

Jul 24, 2013

I'm trying to Copy an Assembly via the Apprentice Server functionality.

But I don't want to copy all files with the filesave as feature. Some of the files, has to be used again as the source file. For Example Content Center files should not be copied. Or maybe also some specific defined internal standard files.

Is there a possibility to get this work?

In the moment, I got all these files via:

[...] For each Element As Inventor.ApprenticeServerDocument In doc.AllReferencedDocuments [...]

maybe it's possible to say something like that:

If Element=ContentCenterDocument then BlaBlaBla

I know, there's an "Inventor.ObjectTypeEnum.kContentCenterObject", but I don't know, how to use it, to check the ApprenticeServerDocument with that.-

AutoCAD Inventor :: Promoting Parts In Assemblies From Stock Sub-assemblies Or Component Groups

Oct 3, 2011

I am working in an Inventor Assembly .iam, I have about 250 fasteners (screws) that are constrained to a flat washer and lock washer. I would like to put them in as a single unit (sub assembly if you will) and then promote or explode them in the top level so that my bom has 250 screws, 250 washers, and 250 lock washers all at the same level, not associated to one another except thru the constraints that were entered in the original assembly. I have tried Promote but that doesn't work because it removes the washers from the original file and I end up with only 1 instance of the assembly. Am I approaching this incorrectly? Is there a better way? I run across this scenario with different components quite often.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Assemblies Showing In Parts Only Parts List

Jul 10, 2012

I have an assembly with a lot of purchased parts. I need to create a buy out list for purchasing. I've done this many times in the past and have a template set up for this purpose.

So now the problem, In this assembly, I have subassemblies showing up on my parts only parts list.

One of the subassemblies cinsists of two purchased parts. Both parts are set to purchased in the Bill of materials. If I do a parts only list on this assembly, it works as expected, showing two purchased parts. However, if I put that assembly into a higher level assembly, A parts only parts list shows the assembly instead of the individual parts.

AutoCAD Inventor :: 2011 - IProperties And Edit Derived Part Dialogs Not Appearing

Feb 18, 2013

I've occasionally run into a problem where when I right-click at the root of the browser tree and select iProperties, the dialog will not show. The application acts as if the dialog is active (in particular, Windows makes an annoying ding every time I try to click somewhere on the Inventor UI) but I cannot see it. If I recall correctly, this only affected some files, and I could usually get around it by opening the dialog from the main menu rather than from the browser.

Now I am experiencing something similar with the Derived Part dialog. After I select a part file to derive from, the dialog for selecting individual elements never actually appears on the screen, but Inventor seems to think it's there, as the part I am deriving from is displayed in the viewport and the browser tree is locked out. Again, it seems as if the dialog is active but invisible: If I press Enter, I get a derived part, and if I press Escape, the preview disappears and nothing new is put in the browser. Of course, I can't choose which elements of the base part I want to derive from. Right-clicking the derived part entry in the browser and selecting "Edit derived part" produces the same result -- evidently, an invisible dialog box.

I am running Inventor 2011 SP2.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Derived Parts And Mass

Aug 23, 2012

have one assy comprising of a valve, made in steel, an actuator made in aluminum, total weight combined is 36 kg.

I make this assy a derived ipt.. i have tried all the output options, single solid, multy solid and the weight is not the same.. since its a new ipt has its own material, ok makes sense.. .. So i use composite, i get the correct weight (yay), but now i cant turn the visibility off on the 2d drawing, in certain pipe spool view representations.

What is the correct procedure for turning multi material assys into an ipt.. to get the correct weights and get the drawings to work properly?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Changes To Derived Parts In 2013?

Jul 9, 2012

Most of my part files contain at least one sketch which is derived from another part file. These derived sketches do not update like they did in our previous versions of Inventor.

If you change the geometry on a sketch in the base component, the updates will flow through to the derived parts. If you add geometry, it also works. However, if you delete any geometry from the sketch in the base part, it will not be deleted in the derived sketches in the second, third, etc. parts. The 'deleted' sketch geometry remains in those parts until you go into all the parts which derive from the base part and manually delete it. This is a significant problem for for our workflow.

Is there an option I have missed that changes this behavior so that deleted geometry in a sketch will also be deleted in any derived sketches in other parts?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Creating A Cutout With Derived Parts

Jul 31, 2013

I am using Inventor 2012.  I have a part that has 3 different inserts of a different material that I have to cut out.  So I create 3 different assemblies with the part and the the 3 different inserts.  Then I create 3 parts to derived the cutouts. Then 3 new assemblies to create the final assembly with the part and its insert.

Does Inventor 2014 have a way to do this with an i Assembly?  I can't seem to derive a member of an i Assembly now. In my old CAD system I was able to create a table with one assembly that contained one part, three different inserts and 3 different cutouts.  Right now this seems like a lot of work.

AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Suppress Link To Derived Parts Inside Assembly

Dec 4, 2007

I am having some trouble with this quick VBA app, I want a utility that can traverse all the parts in a top level assembly and suppress the link to each derived part (multiple) in all the parts in the assembly.

I have played with the following

Public Sub SuppressLink()
Dim partdoc As PartDocument
Set partdoc = ThisApplication.ActiveDocument
partdoc.ComponentDefinition.ReferenceComponents.DerivedPartComponents.Item(1).SuppressLinkToFile = True
End Sub

Which works, but only on one part file, and only on the first derived part. Is there any easy way to make this work on ALL the dervived links and every single part inside an assembly?

AutoCAD Inventor :: 2012 - Parts Derived From Assembly Lose Color

May 17, 2011

Concerning Inventor 2012...

We do a good bit of deriving parts from assemblies. We have a workflow that works well for us, we create PARTS, put them in an ASSEMBLY, then create new PARTS DERIVED from ASSEMBLY. We use Boolean to add/subtract and disregard parts as needed to create these parts. These parts are now given color and reassembled in an yet another final ASSEMBLY as needed and put into a drawing.

Through Inventor 2011 this worked well.

In Inventor 2012 the color is disapering as soon as any change is made on a source part.

1 Changing the color does not work.

2 In the derived from Assembly, opening up (in the browser) the individual .ipt's and right clicking and clicking properties and changing the color only stays until the next change to the source prt.

3 Changing EACH individual face by right click, properties and setting the FACE PROPERTIES from "as feature" to "as part" does work, but is ridiculous to change hundreds of faces on each part. (especially considering we did NOT need this step in 2011)

Is there a switch in the registry (to turn off the standard “as feature” to the parts face).

AutoCAD Inventor :: Derived Parts Exporting As Empty Step Files?

Jun 11, 2012

I've created two similar but different base files.

I've derived each into parts that have a few different features.

In both cases, step exports of the base solid are fine but exports of the unique parts are empty.

Step exports of their assemblies are complete except for these parts.

Sat exports work fine for both parts and assemblies.

It happens in 2012 SP2 and 2013.

AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Link Parts (IPT) And Assemblies (IAM) To Each Other

Apr 3, 2009

how the file structure works and how to link parts (ipt) and assemblies (iam) to each other. I converted a large file from Mechanical desktop to inventor which was a two day process. All parts and assemblies for the main assembly were dumped into one directory. I would like to move all the part files to one location and the assembly files (sub assemblies) to another location and then tell inventor to go there and pick the items from those two locations. I have set up the project telling inventor where to go and look. I moved all the items out of the original directory and now when I open the main model assembly I have to resolve the link to each part individually. This will take forever, is there a way to have inventor go and look for the parts and assemblies without me having to resolve each one?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Parts List Of Sub Assemblies

May 31, 2012

I have one main assembly with two seperate sub assemblies in it.  I need to make two drawings showing the installation of both sub assemblies (one drawing for each).  I need to insert views of the main assembly into each drawing, showing the overall view of the install, but I need the balloons to represent the sub assembly BOM.

I tried making the sub assembly I'm not currently showing, Phantom, and I have a design view set up to hide the information of the sub that is not part of the current drawing.  That seems to work fine for the first drawing, but when I change the BOM (of the main assembly) to suit the next drawing, it affects the first drawing.  How can I use one main BOM to suit two different drawings, showing only certain components?  Or can I "tell" the balloons which BOM to reference?  (I have the BOM of the sub assemblies set up the way I want them as well)
