In Inventor 2012, if I offset a curve and then constrain the offset to the correct dimension, it always moves the original curve and the offset curve becomes the "fixed" curve. How can I change this?
View 8 RepliesI have centreline alginement and have used the offset alginemnt command to get other alignments for other surfaces (need these as they have all different crossfalls). Now as o go along I reference the veritical profile of the new alignement (created via offset) to my previous surface. Each time i do this the vertical profile does not seem to match my original profile of the centreline alignment. Now as i have about 6 offsets and as i move along these error seems to grow even bigger. how this is avoidable or if this is output is unavoidable

I have AutoCAD (2013) set up with two anchored windows on the left-hand side of my screen - layer properties, and then anchored below it the design centre. What can I do to make sure that my layer properties manager always stays anchored to the TOP of the LHS, and the design centre BELOW it, because they switch around when I open a new drawing?
View 3 Replies View Relatedis there a way to set up the profile so it is anchored to horizontal geometry from certain point. that way when i change the alignment in the middle it won't cause profile to be shifted because station changes (length changed) while the vpi stations stay the same as before.
i can make a program in .net to specify a station and move all the vpi station by that amount which can be obtained easily by taking the length before you modify minus length after you modify.
Pretty common problem. it's not that hard to do in really the logic is defined. i have this alignment that's 60km long that's only one portion. hecka lots of horzontal curve and vertical curves. over 100.

I need an offset lisp routine to offset a selected line a set distance on each side of the selected line and change the layer of the offset lines to the current layer, and then keep prompting me to select the next line for offsetting until I'm finished.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI am trying to create a station-offset label style that will drop the trailing zeros in the offset section - e.g. 15' instead of 15.00', but if the offset is not at a whole number, e.g. 15.01, etc. it will display the entire offset.
I created two expressions: IF(OFFSET-TRUNC(OFFSET)=0,.1/12,.00000001/12)
and this one: IF(OFFSET-TRUNC(OFFSET)!=0,.1/12,.00000001/12)
I then created two offset components, one called truncated, and one called full, and assigned the heights to match the expressions.

Currently using 2013. In 2011 or 2012 when Anchoring Right (or Left) a palette Auto-hide has behavior that seems odd to me. If you click Auto-hide on an anchored palette to open it (and presumably keep it open) it detaches from the anchor. And then when you close it you lose the palette on the anchor. To me this wastes time. I'd like to keep that palette open to work a bit and not have to hassle with it by not having it open, but at the same time don't want to waste time later calling it up and anchoring it again. Is this still happening in 2013?
View 1 Replies View RelatedUsing InDesign CC, I want to wrap text around a graphic that is anchored into the paragraph. I'm able to do this if the graphic is anchored into the left side of the paragraph by choosing Inline or Above Line and adjusting the Y distance.
However, I need to anchor the graphic on the right side of the paragraph so that the right edge of the graphic aligns to the right edge of the paragraph, as shown below. Is that possible?

View 3 Replies View RelatedWhat I have is a round part with a few features. I drew it in Inventor until I got stuck with the last feature, which happens to be a hole, on the OD of the part that is at an angle (don't care what angle so long as it doesn't intersect with the hole next to it).
I have screen shot? both the mechanical 2D version and my 'so far' Inventor version, how I can go about modeling this feature?
Btw, the hole this has to connect to is the one highlighted green in the bottom pic or the only one dimensioned in the top pic.
All previous releases of Inventor before 2013 would display the name of the parameter that controls the offset value of a plane. While editing an offset plane you could see the name either in the title of the pop up or by holding your cursor over the parameter value. In release 2013 I have been unable to find the parameter name anywhere when editing the plane. I have a lot of equations in my models. Being able to track down bugs is difficult enough without not knowing what parameter I'm looking at.
Is there a setting I need to turn on/off to get the parameter name to display again?
I have an assembly that I am trying to offset surfaces from other components to create a different part. I have this part inserted into the assembly (only planes and axis exist on this part for now).
When I try to edit it in the assembly, and select "Copy Construction" from the surfaces menu it will not select the surfaces I need. First is this the correct command? This looked like the closest to an offset surface command.
If not, what is the correct command?
I should also add that this assembly has welds in it, if that makes any difference.
I edited a sketch for an emboss to move the number over. But the resulting emboss still acts like I din not make the edit.

Using IV 2013 and Frames.
When i get some frames and need to use the feature NOTCH, is there a way to put one offset on it ? like we can do using MITER ?
The solution we've found here is in every member that we use NOTCH, we enter in the frame part and then use the feature THICKEN/OFFSET, this wey i can get the standard offset of 3mm that we use here for welding.
Or, if there is other easy way instead of NOTCH, to make one frame get to other with offset.
The image below shows what i mean, i need to get this off set in the frames on Z AXIS.

I need a pit configuration, and I use the offset command to offset a base polyline to first 10 m and then 3 and so on.. is there a way to do this in an automatically way, that you can choose the lenght of the offset for each "offset" (i.e. 1st 10 m, 2nd 3, 3rd 10 m, 4th 3 m, and so on. I am actually using civil 3D.

When I import audio (.WAV) it works fine, but if I offset it to a later frame the waveform moves to the right frame but when scrubbing the audio stays at 0. Making if very difficult to lip-sync. I have tried re-caching, playing the scene all the way through and all other options I have seen online.

This sheet metal model was working fine, until I decided to check it against the original AutoCAD drawing. Once I finish the "Side layout" sketch, the two thicken features had exclamation marks.

I have created a user parameter in a assembly, then creating a member with FG i use that parameter as member offset. The same with other members.
Changing from Parameters that parameter no update happen, I have tried rebuild all, refresh..no working. The only thing that works, is to use the "change" command , select my member(s) , change nothing, than ok.
Then it update.
Is it a software limit? A bug? An error in the workflow?
I am having an issue in trying to get my hole axis to offset in the opposite direction. In the image below I want the slot to be centered on the hole. I can get it to offset moving the slot to the left, but can't get it to go to the right. I have tried a negative number, but both positive and negative move it to the left.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI need a creative way to do something I know can be done in SW and Pro-E but as far as I know can not be done in Inventor to date
I am using the origin center line and semitry to control a box and its associated geometry and want to control the position or offset of a second box relitive to the first using a center line associated to the second box with a dimension. Problem is that the dim will only control its off set position relitive to the initial side from which the dim was placed. I.E. if the dim is placed when the CL of the second box is to the right it can not be moved to the left (what would in essence be a -dim condition) understandably Inventor does not like that but SW and Pro-E can use there little wheel and roll it down to 0 and then back up to a + dim in the opposit or in this case Left direction.
I know that I could place a dim off the interior wall of my first box geometry and associate it to the CL of the second box but the math to that may or may not be appropreatly effective in other words in condition A it may need to be 1/3 of d1 and in condition B it may need to be 2/3's of d1 or some other dimension.
I would love to be able to do this via iLogic or perhaps something to do with the placement relitive to a construction geometry utilizing a circle but so far I have not found a viable solution.
How can I thicken/offset an entire part without having to select all the faces individually? The 'chain select' option is not good enough for selecting all faces/surfaces that meet and form an edge with no fillet.
Is there still no way of doing this in 2012?
In an assembly, you can type in offset values for a part or assembly via the properties occurrence tab. Why is the x y and z offset angle entries grayed out? Is there any time that these could be used?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI am having trouble creating an extrude-cut from an offset ellipse. It seems that when the ellipse is offset, it becomes an associative spline. I need it to remain associative with the original ellipse.
But, when I try to extrude a profile using the new spline, it won't recognize the edge.
I can't just create a new ellipse, as it's profile won't quite match the offset one. I tried tracing over the ellipse with a spline, but it then requires a vast amount of dimensions to constrain it all together.
I'm trying to extrude-cut the red outlined profile (including the elliptical part of course)..
Here is the part. I am working in Inventor 2009.
I am currently working with an elliptic profile that needs to be unfolded. The part consists of two sketches, with each sketch having two ellipses. The ellipses on each sketch then forms a cross-section where the thickness of it is supposed to be 8 mm (the first ellipse is offsett).
My plan is then to generate a mold for the inner and outer sides of this part by using the "Lofted flange" function and Rip, since I want the flat pattern of it. However, I've found that I can not select my offset ellipse when using Lofted flange, only the original one. I'm thinking that this might be caused due to the offset ellipse not actually being an ellipse but a spline (I read somewhere that there are two ways of offsetting an ellipse. One generates a mathematical ellipse and the other a spline). Creating an new ellipse and then saying that the a and b distance should be 8 mm less than the other ellipse will work, but that will not give me a constant wall thickness of 8 mm along the circumference of the elliptic cross-section.
The problem: a complex curvy part will shell 0.5 mm but not 3mm - some of the surfaces fall inside the others.
A work around : Offset each surace (individually - not quilt) then stich & sculpt.
A program: To offset an enclosed surface, individual face by face, internally. Then manually stich to identify any errors & patch accordingly.
Note these parts have 100's of faces so the code would be useful - not sure how to always offset the surface to the inside of the volume.
