AutoCAD Inventor :: How To Transfer Cuts From Assembly

Dec 4, 2012

I made an assembly and added cuts on parts at the assembly level, but the part files didn't reflect these changes.

How to update those files with the new cuts?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Assembly To Show Field Cuts?

May 13, 2013

I am making an assembly and some components are "over-sized" and to be prepared/cut down and welded in the field.

I would still like to have an assembly file to show the desired result, but when creating a typical assembly, the over-sized parts do not look good or show a nice final assembly.

What would be the best practice to show a visually appealing final assembly, but not have any effect on the individual part and drawing files?

Only thing I can think of it is to use Model features in the assembly environment.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Transfer Of Links To Copied Assembly?

Mar 27, 2013

I am running Inventor 2008 and have recently created a few models.  All of the models I have created have been linked to external spreadsheets at the part and assembly levels.  Everything for a complete model is in a single folder, the spreadsheet and all parts, assemblies and drawings.  With my previous models I was taking the entire folder and copying it to new locations to make slightly different models.  When I would do this all the links of the copied parts were pathing to the copied spreadsheet, not the original, which is what I want.  With my most recent model the copied parts are still pathing to the original spreadsheet.

P.S.:  I tried to get around this by doing a pack and go and ended up with the same issue.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Transfer Holes Put In At Assembly Level To Detail Drawings (IPT)

When holes are put in at the assembly level by using the 2d sketch command, projecting geometry and then using the hole command in the Model tab works great.  Is there a way to transfer the holes put in at the assembly level to the detail drawings (ipt)?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Text Box Cuts Off Leaders

Sep 13, 2012

We recently upgraded from Autodesk Inventor 11 to Autodesk Inventor 13. For some reason the text box cuts off any leader I try to put over it. I thought this might be a glitch on my machine at first till I realized that it would not work on any machine in our office. I must have clicked a wrong button or something when installing Autodesk Inventor 13 because it worked perfectly fine in Autodesk Inventor 11.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Single Line Cuts Using Laser

Jan 8, 2014

I am working on a project where several holes in a sheet metal part will need to be cut as "knockouts". In previous years, either an engineer or the laser cutter programmer would set up the machine to partially cut a circle, but leave a gap to hold the knockout in place (basically a 340 degree arc).

Now that we are using Inventor, is there a way that we can create these features so that they show up in a dwg as a single line? It must be a single line; some of the holes are very small and if the laser makes more than one pass it could affect the integrity of the feature.

The closest I have gotten to accomplishing this is a surface extrusion on the folded part. When I send it to an .idw file, the line appears in the folded model, but I need it to appear in the flat pattern.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Drawing Dimension Of Beam With Two 45 Deg Cuts

Sep 20, 2013

I have recently drawn a steel construction, and I am now in the process of making the drawings. A problem that occurs is the length of beams used for bracing. When I click the two outer points, the lower dimension in the drawing appears. This is the length of the line between the two points. To be able to dimension properly, I have made a sketch with a straight line, which is perpendicular to one side of the beam. This has been used, with the point on the opposite side, to find the true beam length (and is showed as the upper of the two dimensions in the picture).

AutoCAD Inventor :: Laser Cuts On Sheet Metal

Dec 4, 2013

I have a back plate made out of 2mm Galvanized Steel. And here is the drawing of this back plate flattened out:

You can see that the cut is 5mm between the back plate and bended out part. This part will be laser cut, instead of being punched out.

Here comes the challenge- No matter what is the distance between bended out part and back plate laser will consider there to be two lines for it to cut *one line on the back plate and one line for bended part. And laser will go there two times even if I will make distance of 0,01mm. Is there any way to make this cut as one line, so laser will make one pass cut?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Propagate Extruded Cuts To Components

Feb 5, 2012

I have two simple parts: an (almost) rectangular prism and a simple polygonal extrusion. The polygonal extrusion needs to be situated inside the prism, so I placed them in an assembly constrained the polygonal extrusion made a sketch on the extrusion with a simple 1/8 outward Offset of the profiledid a Model >  Modify Assembly > Extrude using the profile and Through All selected removed the polygonal extrusion as a participant to get the desired effect (in the photo, the offset is enlarged for clarity):

This works perfectly at the assembly level. However, I would also like this cut to be propagated to the rectangular part itself (the part through which the cut passes). When I open the part file, I still see the original part without the cut. Is there a way I can cut the part itself without recreating the shape in the part to be cut?

I've tried using Model > Create > Derive with the intention of using Model > Modify > Combine with an operation mode of Cut, but when I Derive the part, it is placed in the wrong location:

AutoCAD Inventor :: ILogic Assembly Has Double User Request At Inserting In Assembly

Sep 18, 2012

We have an iLogic assembly with to parts in it. Maybe to cylindrical parts. The iLogic rules should do the following.

1. Start a Rule after open document.

2. This Rule starts a Rule in the first cylindrical component.

3. This Rule ask the user for a diameter.

4. The assembly gives this new parameter value to the second component

5. Then the assembly calls another rule in the second component to change it with the new parameter

Everything is working fine when the following combinations are taking place:

1. I open up the assembly out of vault or from a local drive or an accessible server drive

2. I insert the assembly as sub assembly in another assembly from a local drive or an accessible server drive

It don't work with the following situation:

- I insert the assembly as sub assembly in another assembly out of vault

Then the user becomes the dialog "Choose a diameter" twice.

I don't know why, but I have the idea it has something to do with the functionality of inventor to insert a component more than once. If you insert a component in an assembly Inventor gives you the opportunity to add more than one occurence after each other.

change that behaviour? Maybe a switch to change that inventor "add more than one occurence" behaviour.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Tube And Pipe Assembly Styles Don't Translate Into Other Assembly Files

Feb 9, 2012

I have encountered a problem with the Tube and Pipe styles.

As you can see, I have a rack assembly with a custom tube and pipe style. A wire as a tube in orange, and a tube support in white. Both have their seperate colorations at a style in the tube and pipe styles editor

When placing the rack assembly into the main assembly, it reverts to the coppor coloration I changed from the original style.

Steps I've taken:

Exported the styles .xml and Imported the styles into the master tubeandpipe.iam

Imported the user created .xml styles into the main assembly file nothing seems to work

AutoCAD Inventor :: Find Interior Volume Of Assembly By Subtracting Assembly From Block

Apr 23, 2012

I am trying to find the interior volume of an assembly (when am I not?!?!) by subtracting the assembly from a block that surrounds the most of it.  Somewhere the assembly has a "leak" and I have been trying to use the Cross Section Analysis to track down where the inside lump is connected to the outside lump to be subtracted.  Is there a less time consuming way to dynamically drag a plane across and get cross sectional views?

Even better is there a simple way to animate the analysis plane moving across the block so I can hopefully just watch and pause it when I find a leak?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Make Sub Assembly From Parts From Main Larger Assembly?

Oct 31, 2011

My assembly has grown (about 50 parts) to where I need to consolodate some parts into subassemblies for reuse and alternate iterations of the basic design.

When I import the original parts into a new assembly, all of the constrains I created are not there of course.

I've tried creating a new empty part and then deriving a new part from the assembly, but I can't add, delete or edit any parts.

I looked at using Shrinkwrap, Substitutes, iParts, Multi-body Parts, and Multiple Solids but I remain confused.

In retrospect, maybe I should have created the subassemblies between the part and assembly stage but I didn't.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Transfer Files From MAC To Windows PC

I've been doing some research on new computers for the office and my boss came to me about potentially switching from Windows OS to Mac OS. In my opinion I'm ok with whatever OS we use but I don't know much about MAC Computers. I have done some research on them and have read of customers using Inventor 2012 on Macs but that’s the extent of it.

1) Are there any issues that you've seen when running Boot Camp or Parallels and which do you think is user friendly.

2) How well are you able to transfer files from a MAC PC to a Windows PC then vise versa? (Taking work home etc.)

3) Have you had any problems transferring your library of information from Vault over to a Mac? (Checking in and out of Vault)

4) Our company use's DXF's made from Flat patterns that we transfer over to a Salvagnini machines that use's windows.
