AutoCAD Inventor :: FEA Finding Total NET Pressure On A Face

May 1, 2013

I am well versed with the FEA system,  however I do not see any way to get total pressure or load on a face.  I know the info is there,  the results let me probe points on the face,  I just cannot find a way to get the total.

I have attached an image that illustrates the situation.

I will even dive into iLogic again if it is possible to achieve my goal there.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Adding Pressure Loads To A Perpendicular Face

Nov 2, 2012

When adding pressure loads to a perpendicular face  inventor states that the pressure is applied uniformly to the selected face.As an example a disc of 300 mm dia(area= 70685 sq mm) with a uniform pressure load of 10MPa.

Is the 10MPa load input  construed by inventor as 10MPa per square mm or 10MPa over the entire disc area.which is the correct interpretation?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Merging Circular Face To Flat Face

Aug 22, 2012

All I need to do is merge a circular face to a flat face, so both faces become one continuous face. Is this possible at all?

I have a attached a screenshot to show what I mean. Face 1 needs to be merged with face 2. This is so if I constrain anything to that face it will constrain to the entire face and not either the circular face OR the flat face.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Calculating Total Volume

Apr 11, 2012

I want to know if it is possible to calculate the water displacement volume of an assembly if it were immersed in water.

In other words,  I want to create a file in which ALL hollow spaces inside structural members, valves, pipework etc are assumed to be solid so that when that assembly is dropped in water, the total volume of water being displaced will be equal to the iProperty value for volume.  I know its possible to hole patch when creating a shrinkwrap,  but this is only effective for 'circular' hollow spaces and does not fill obscure or rectangular shaped empty volumes.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Total Weight Of A Part List?

i have an already edited part list (because there are parts that come from different assemblies and other ones that don't have to appear in that part list) and i like to show the total weight of my drawing, that doesn't correspond with any assembly.

So, there is any possibility of summing up the values of a part list column.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Parts List - Generate Total Length In Inches

Jun 7, 2013

I use my parts list to generate a total length in inches of the same part that is used in several places in my assemblies.  I then export it to excel, convert it to feet, etc.  I've been doing this for some time now and it works great.  The problem I am now having is I forgot how I got this magic to happen and I need to set another part to appear with it's total length in the list.  From what I remember I set the QTY column in the parts list to show the length of the part and then I set the parts list to merge the same parts.  For the life of me I can't remember how I did this.  How this is done correctly?

All of the parts are created by the frame generator if this matters.

Does the sketch contain a fully constrained closed loop?

Does this closed loop consist only of straight lines?

What is the total number of lines in the loop?

Next fase is:

Create an excel-sheet with the following information:

For each line in this closed loop i wish to add the length of the line, and the angle to the next line (consequently on the internal side of the loop, resulting in angles from 0 to 180 degrees).

AutoCAD Inventor :: Correct Total LOD Assembly Mass In View Label Or Note

Jun 14, 2012

I am trying to get the correct total mass of a particular assy variant in a view label. I am trying to avoid using I-Assemblies due to the length of time it takes to set up and inevitable fudging of parts lists with phantom parts when things go awry. Anyway, to get around that clumbsiness, I use a combination of suppresed parts, assembly Level of detail (LOD) and View representations to switch parts on and off for various assembly variants of a theme (which works fine for me). see my "Mass of LOD's.jpg" attachment which should fully explain the parts list filtering and what I WISH to achieve. My objective is to get the correct MASS per Level of Assy and View Rep (both called the same) to be automated, correctly (as per LOD/VIEW REP), ideally, in the view label or in a leader note. I reckon I was able to do this way back in MDT? Any enhancement in Inventor 2013?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Calculate Total Length Of Multiple Doors On Single Machine

Apr 26, 2013

I use flat piano hinges on doors for many of the machines we build. I would like to be able to calculate the total length of multiple doors on a single machine. We buy these hinges so it needs to go on a buy out parts list.

So here is my problem:

To make it a useable hinge I build an assembly from two hinge halves.

This allows me to check for interference within the machine when the door gets opened.

I set the BOM structure of the assembly to purchased so it shows up on my buy out list.

Both halves of the hinge are set to normal.

There are hinges of different lengths on the same machine.

I can link a parameter of one of the halves to the assembly to show length of the hinge but I cannot set the BOM base qty on the assembly to that parameter so Inventor can add up the lengths.

When I group the items in a buyout parts list the result is  "0." The individual assemblies show the correct length because I use the "length" parameter that is linked for the QTY in the parts list. But I cant "add" the lengths and have a total whe I group them.

I need to have mixed units in this list. Some things are bought as Each and these hinges are bought in length.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Merged Frame Generator Members Equal Wrong Total Length?

Jan 21, 2013

I have a feeling this goes way back to the first release of INV we had (release 14?). Basically the merged FG member length seems to be calculated using the member centre line instead of real lengths. See the attached Pack-N-Go.

The view on the left is a Merged FG member. The view in the middle is individual FG members based on a line of symmetry in the same sketch. Both are placed using the mid point option in the FG dialogue. The views on the right are the 3 separate members used for the middle view.

The Merged length shows 722 mm whereas adding the 3 member lengths (RH view) equals 740 mm. 18 mm short, or 2 sets of 9 mm (shown in the middle view) which represents the end cuts to the middle member in the RH view.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Dynamic Pressure Simulation

Mar 20, 2012

I have a question regarding simulations in Autodesk Inventor.

For example I have such part:

It is a plug made out of brass. I want to test if it will be able to withstand specified pressure. So I set up where is it constrained - on thread.

And set up pressure from inside on the cap to be 16 bar (1,6 MPa). And also assign materials. And there goes simulation . Everything seems alright. I want to run little bit different analysis. When pressure would be variable.

For example I will have pressure going from 12 bar to 16 bar, and such simulation will be running for quiet long time (as an example pressure will be 12 then raises to 16 then goes to 12 again and then raises to 16 again). I want to know after what time will this plug fail and will be destroyed? I mean i want to know when METAL will get tired and will be destroyed? I was just wondering if such a simulation is possible to be made in Autodesk Inventor?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Finding Missing BOM Balloons In Drawing

Jul 16, 2013

We want to ensure that a balloon callout exists for every item in the parts list (BOM) in our assembly drawings.  Is there a way to easily do this?

Currently, if we have an assembly with 30 parts, we manually search for each of the 30 BOM balloon to verify that none were missed.  Since the balloons are not in order, balloon 5 could be on page 2 while 6 is on page 8.  This method is often time-consuming and error prone.

It probably goes without saying, but if ballons are missed, then assemblers have nothing to show them were the parts go and either come ask us or guess.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Find The Center Of Pressure Of Model Rocket?

Feb 28, 2013

I made a custom model rocket a few days ago and I posted some pics online.  A lot of the rocketry community gave me crap that my fins are too small, and my nose cone was not the right shape.

I made a CAD of the rocket in inventor and I would like to run a simulation so I can see what it will look like when the air is flowing over my rocket.

Here's a STEP file of the rocket, as of now I don't have the density of the parts set because I am still trying to figure out how to add custom densities.  I know that there are somethings about the rocket that don't seem right, like the nose cone that doesn't go over the sides of the tube - but that was a machining error on the actual rocket and I wanted to make the CAD as similar as possible.
