Mar 14, 2011I try to delete one of version of the file on vault server. When i right-click and delete, it delete all version and original file too.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Can't Connect To Vault Server
Jan 23, 2013I have one computer that can't connect to the Vault Server. It use to work fine and I am not sure what happened. I have gone to the extreme of uninstalling and re-installing and still nothing. I am in the same project as when it was working. I have checked the Application Options Content Center and made sure that the Access Options is set to Autodesk Vault Server.
When I click on Vault Server, everything is grayed out except "Log In" and "Connection Options". If I click on either of them the dialog box goes away and nothing happens. No error dialogs nothing. If I go to the project amd click on the Configure Content Center Libraries button it just disappears and nothing happens. Not sure what else to do.

Aug 1, 2013I have recently set up a new PC with pretty high end specs and have noticed Inventor still doesnt perform as expected, i am using maybe 5% of my 64gb ram and 10-20% of my i7 4ghz CPU.
We are using a network vault and the content center is stored on the vault, using frame generator i have noticed significant performance problems (considering these specs)
Could it be a bottle neck in the Server?
(latest service pack for Inventor 2013 installed) 64 bit machine.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Derive Part And Save Separate Version In Vault
Jan 16, 2013I am trying to take a 3" sq 11 gauge tube that will have a pie shaped cut out of the tube leaving only one wall remaining. The tube then will be bent until the two sections are mated and welded. The tube is going to be processed on a tube laser to have the features cut out.
The problem is when I bend the tube in inventor I need a straight version of the tube for cad/cam programming and fabrication and not have it affect the bend feature that is placed in the weldment. I do no want to derive a part and save a separate version in the vault. I would like it all to be in one model.
I try to create a view representation and name it "straight" and suppress the bend feature in the new representation but it changes in both representations of the part.
Is there a way to have two different view representations of the part (suppressed bend feature, unsuppressed bend feature) that I can switch between?
AutoCAD 2010 :: ARX And DLL Files On Vault Server?
Oct 1, 2013My company is currently running AutoCAD 2012 and we have invested heavily in some custom DLL and ARX routines that really automate our design/engineering process. The problem is that these currently resolve on laptop computers and our executive managment doesn't feel that it is very secure.
Their suggestion is to run AutoCAD through a virtual machine, which none of us like, for many reasons.
One option we would like to explore is using Autodesk Vault to store our DLL and ARX files, and require Vault login in order to load/run these files.

Dec 10, 2013I started using inventor when he started the job. I have been using Inventor for about 3 years now. My question is that I have always practiced good file management at every level of a project from single parts to large assemblies; however at this new job the file management is horrible, in the last 3 years the company has been through 13 different drafters, thus each drafter was saving files in different location and names making finding parts and assemblies a nightmare.
The problem I am having is that the lead designer is insisting that we implement vault, and that it will solve our problems, However I feel that we needed to develop a universal file and naming convention first, get our file hierarchy in order before we try and implement vault. There will only be 2 of us accessing the cad files and I don't think that vault would even be a good fit for our work flow.

Aug 17, 2011Every time I open a file in Inventor a dialog box comes up that says "Updating file status from vault". In most cases it is not a big deal, but when an 1000+ part assembly is opened this box flashes for each part in the assemly causing a delay in opening the file. Needless to say this is very annoying. So my questions are what is this doing exactly and can I turn it off?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Vault Autogenerated File Names Not Working
Dec 17, 2013I thought I had found the answer to file naming nightmares with the autogenerated sequential numbers in Vault. Everything went OK until I renamed some frame generated files with the design assistant and checked those in. Vault obviously doesn't look to see if a file name is already in use because it did not go to the next free number, it just blindly continued with the sequence, ignoring the fact that those names were taken.
Is there any way to have Vault check and keep proper count when parts are added or renamed manually? Or at least manually set the counter to the next available number?

Aug 10, 2010When I try to Check files into Vault from Inventor 2011 and I have, under settings, Create visualization attachment checked, Inventor locks up. Only (1) of (4) machines with this problem. Same machine is using Vista, everyone else is using XP.
Seems to hang up the most when i try to check the .idw. Locks up 50% of the time. Tends to upload parts and assemblies o.k. then hangs up on the .idw.

Lets say you design a car and having the frame and the body you have different guys that come in and do electrical, fuel system, so on... They need to work with the frame and the body doing their parts, since thats the reference for them.
But only one guy can check it out. We try the approach that one system is an entire independent assembly inserted into the top assembly but its not perfect.
AutoCAD Inventor :: Duplicating Vault Project And Renaming Every Related File
May 20, 2013I want to duplicate & then rename a project I have stored on my vault computer, However I am experiencing many difficulties.
There are probably around 1000 + files in this project-multiple assemblies/drawings & parts. Initially i did a Pack & Go of the Project to my desktop. I then took my first top level drawings & using Design Assistant renamed all the reference parts and assemblies related too it. This worked fine, albeit a very long time to rename all the files.
The problem is that i have say 50 drawing files, some contain similar assemblies/part files which will have already been rename in the first top level drawing & some container different assemblies/parts (which are not related to the first top level drawing) & will have to be renamed separately.
Is there an easier way to duplicate & rename a vault project because design assistant makes this task extremely laborious. An great tool to add would be to 'Find & Replace' a file name & apply it too all the files. Similar to the function in Microsoft Word.
I have looked into the copy design feature in vault however, you can only copy a project within a project, you cannot copy it to a completely new folder in the vault.
The other problem is, is that you can only add a prefix or suffix to every file/related part/assembly, & i would rather replace the project number rather then add the new project number to the file names. This would be a viable option if you could rename multiple files quickly, however this just stems back to the design assistant.
AutoCAD Inventor :: Vault File And Folder Rename Taking Too Long?
Nov 8, 2012I have a vaulted project with about 1000 parts in it and a subfolder within that that has about 250 parts in it.I am told that vault does not manage references outside the project scope as defined by the IPJ which in theis case is at that 1000 part folder level.
If I go to rename the folder with 250 parts in it, it takes up to a half hour. I am having trouble believing that vault can't do better than a half hour to manage the references of a subfolder of a project with 1000 parts in it, when only 250 parts are affected.
Also, I notice a secondary ipj file is created temporarily during the renaming. That ipj appears under an inventor folder under my docs. Can't see why it takes two ipj files to manage one project. Also don't understand why there should be a local ipj file active when I am renaming at the vault level. I am suspicious that this other ipj (named after my company name, indicating a purposeful act) is expanding the scope of reference management since its parent resides at the root Vault explorer ($) separate of the projecy ipj. Also takes way too long to rename individual files.

in the vault browser is eazy to show the description from each part, search by description etc.
but when ia want to select from inventor, for example i want to replace component from vault or add component from vault. i can't see this description.

This child part is already in vault. I tried to delete the child from Vault and I thought that I would just re-generate it. But, when I try to delete the file from Vault, I am given a restriction, but no explanation.
What can I do to get this back in sync with vault?

Apr 25, 2012When working in Inventor within a Vault environment, you have a check box on the "Check In" dialogue box for "Close files and delete working copies" that once selected, it stays selected until the user unchecks the box.

Not so when working with AutoCAD....why?
Why is it that every time a user checks a file into Vault from ACAD, they have to check that box?
There has got to be a seting somewhere that this check box stays selected. Why isn't this a default? How to "lock" that down?
AutoCAD Inventor :: JPG File - Delete Third Party Image File Link?
Jun 12, 2012We have a couple parts that are linked to a jpg file, through Inventor studio. They were set as a reflection image, from what I can tell. However they are now perminantly linked to the part and anything we copy from it. I eliminated the reflection from Inventor studio, but Vault still thinks the link is there. If we delete the jpg files it causes unresolved references and as we all know Inventor will then refuse to work until they are resolved.
Any way to get rid of this link? We can make a new jpg, and resolve it, but not delete it.
Revit :: How To Lock Files To Be Able To Delete From Server
Dec 5, 2012We have set up Revit 2013 and it works fine for creating folders and subfolders. I followed the Autodesk process step by step on creating a new file in the revit server. Everything is fine, but when I hit save an error message appears saying that the file cannot be saved. When I log into revitserver i see the new file, but I cannot delete, lock it, or use it at all.
How we can lock the files to be able to delete from the revit server?
As a side note:
Unless Autodesk is planning on getting rid of revit server they should really invest into the documentation and troubleshooting.
Photoshop :: OSX / Creating Hidden Dot Files On The Server That Nobody Can Delete?
Mar 27, 2013It appears when I copy a folder of photos up to a server, it's also copying some hidden files that nobody can do anything with, causing problems. For instance, say my folder name is Photos, I just drag and drop the entire Photos folder onto the server. But if inside Photos i have a dog.jpg and cat.jpg file, there are also hidden files names ._dog.jpg and ._cat.jpg. it's those two hidden files that are causing problems when people go to work with that folder.is it something in OSX I need to change?

Nov 7, 2011One of our users, lets call him USER1, has recently received the following message when attempting to save an assembly:
"A later version of this file has been saved by USER1. Saving the file would overwrite changes which is not allowed. If you wish to preserve your changes, use the Save Copy As command."
To get to this error message, our user opens an IDW, then the IAM linked to that drawing. Changes made in the IAM are changing bolt lengths, adding fasteners from content center, things like that. After saving inside the IAM this message appears. There are multiple users on our network; but only this user is working the assembly in question when the message appears?
what makes this message appear, and how it can be avoided?

Jun 7, 2013I'm in the process of modifying our materials.xml file within the: Style and Standard Editor [Library - Read/Write]I can add materials no problem but:
* When I make an attempt to rename a material, a new material is created with the new name, and the material I attempted to rename is still there with the old name.
* 90% of the time "purge style" is grayed out. When I have the chance to use "purge style" it doesn't work. Purge style and sub-styles doesn't work either.
How do you delete materials from materials.xml?
AutoCAD Inventor :: Saving 1013 Idw File To An Older Version?
Oct 1, 2012I use a machine called a shopbot to cut wood projects. Students draw the parts in Inventor, place them into a idw and use the save copy feature to save it as a DXF file. The shopbot uses a progam called partworks v2 and it reads DXF files. This worked great for the past few years until this summer when we installed the 2013 inventor on our computers. I contacted Shopbot and they said other people are having the same problem and the solution for most of them was to save the idw file as an older version. Last year we had AutoDesk 2011 and it worked fine. how I can save a 2013 idw as a 2011 idw?

I have no problem saving new files or opening files, however, any time I try and save changes to a file, inventor crashes. Also if I try and move a file, windowes explorere gets stuck at "descovering items." Renaming a file crahses explorer.
