AutoCAD Inventor :: Base Model Properties On Other Sheets?

Dec 27, 2012

I know there is a way with iLogic/VB to do this but I'm not exactly sure how. Basically, I'd like to put the part number from the base view (view 1) of SHEET 1 into my title block. Easy enough with one sheet, but I want subsequent sheets to reference back to the part number from VIEW 1 on SHEET 1, regardless of what sheet it is on.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Copy Properties Vs Model Properties In Drawings?

Oct 25, 2010

I want to set up my drawings so that the title block displays properties from the model.  I want to set this up so there will be drawing properties to extract into Vault.  So I want to know what other Inventor and Vault users are doing to get model properties into Inventor drawings:  Using model properties in the title block and nothing to extract in Vault or Copy model properties so Vault has data to extract.

I want to know what the best in class practice is?  What are others doing?  I do not want to use iLogic I was out of the box Inventor functionality.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Get Sheet 1 Base View Properties

Jan 3, 2013

I'm pretty sure there's a way to do this but I am not sure on what code to use. I would like to have the "number" field on my title block template always get the "part number" attribute from the first base view (or first part/assembly) on sheet 1. This will be regardless of what sheet I am using the title block on. I could even store it as a custom property or something as I won't ever have two different part numbers in one drawing.

To clarify on that, we may have a welded assembly that has one single part number, but as I'm designing it, I just add a -1, -2, etc. to the end of the part number for each component being made. In the end when they're all welded together, it's one part number. Since no one else needs to see my -1, -2 etc, I'd like it to pull the part number from the assembly on sheet 1 for every sheet.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Create And Define Multiple Custom Properties For Individual Sheets?

Apr 24, 2013

the only property I can actually define for each individual sheet (for use in iLogic, text fields, etc.) is the sheet name. This is extremely limiting. Each sheet in my drawings has several properties of its own--sheet number (most importantly), what part is ON the sheet, the designer, the revision, etc. I would love to be able to use each of these in labels on the sheet, for example, a text box with "<Sheet #> - <Part> (<Designer>)". The only possible way I could do something like this is to use the sheet number as the Sheet Name, and then use that value in the sheet's text labels, headings, and title block. However, I want to be able to use descriptive names for the Sheet Name, plus that's just one property.

Is there any way I can create and define multiple custom properties for individual sheets? I was exploring the idea of using iLogic, using the ActiveSheet command, possibly, and "tricking" inventor into creating properties for a given sheet.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Update Drawing Properties From Model IProperties Automatically

Jul 1, 2011

I like to keep the properties of my drawing the same as those of my model. Currently I must remember to hit the "updat copied properties" button in the drawing to discard any old drawing properties and replace them with the properties from the model.

Is there any way to automate this task (perhaps on saving the drawing?) I presume an iLogic rule could be created in the drawing template, just not sure how to go about it.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Custom Properties / Model - Changing Order Of Placed Views

Oct 21, 2013

Within the drawing title block we have a 'Text' of type 'Custom Properties - Model' which pulls in a custom iprop from a model which is the models finished weight. This is a common way of auto populating title box entries.

The problem is that the sheet populates the text with the info related to the first viewport placed upon the drawing.

Whilst fine when planned for properly, I quite often encounter upon large multisheet detail drawings, that a user when detailing an IAM, will have forgotten to put the IAM view down first, especially later in the drawing series where the IAM is not required and the user is detailing IPT's.

What I am looking for is a way to change which viewport the border properties are related to ideally, so that if a user has forgotten to place the IAM but has placed 20 IPT's down, I could place an IAM outside of the maximum area, as the 21st object but fool Inventor into thinking this was the first viewport placed down, thus populating the border info correctly.

I don't know of a way to do this currently, either with current Inventor functionality, or by programmatic approach - our current fix is to have the user create another drawing sheet, place the IAM outside the maximum area, copy all his IPT viewports across from the first sheet, then delete the first sheet. Is it possible to change the object order of placed viewports with less disruption?

AutoCAD Inventor :: ILogic - Count Sheets Counts Excluded Sheets

Jun 14, 2012

shouldn't sheets marked as "exclude from count" not be counted?

I tried this in both 2013 and 2012 to see if maybe AutoDesk broke it, but it doesn't work in either one. This is easily reproducible for me, a file shouldn't be necessary. Just open up (or create) a multi sheet drawing. Go to edit sheet on one or two of them and check the "exclude form count" box. Now create a new iLogic rule and put the following line into it:

MsgBox("This is the number of sheets in the drawing: " & ThisDoc.Document.Sheets.Count, VBOkOnly, "Number of Sheets")

If there was a way to retain original object layer properties when in base view.  IE I have 4 layers, each with a different color.  I would like to create a base view, and still keep the object layer colors.  Is there a work around for this?  Or should I just do an elevation and work through VP's?

AutoCad :: Edit Xrefs To Correspond To Base Model Space Layering

Oct 29, 2013

Is it possible to edit xrefs so that the xref layers correspond to your base model space layering? In other words, when you do an xref edit in your base drawing (not separate xref file) the layering will react to your edits using base plan layering? I use on screen layer tool bars and xref layers are on a separate layer and do not respond to these toolbar.

Revit :: View Sheets From A Linked Model?

Dec 18, 2012

I have created a big and complex Revit model, in Revit 2013. It's now time for me to print the sheets - I want them in PDF and DWF. But I really have some problems doing that. When I print to PDF it takes about 20 minutes for it to print 1 drawing - and it will not be complete - elements are missing compared to the original view. Often Revit stops working - and it's the same story when I try to save a DWF.

I think the reason why I have the problem is because of the complexity of the building's geometry. Have modeled it by importing SAT. files from Rhino - to create the form. The result is great but the file is now 370 Mb. I'm trying to link the model in to a new Revit project to minimize the file, and hopefully get the drawings printed in PDF and DWF. In the the new project I can't see the sheets from the linked file though.

Is there a way to link the sheets to another procjet?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Convert Surface Model Into Solid Model?

Jan 15, 2013

My problem today is that I made a Model of a Part of a ship using surfaces rather than solids because the engineer thought it would be easier to bring into ANSYS program for analysis but he is now having a problem with it and I am looking into converting my current model to solid. I can do it but the method I thought of using is quite long winded and we are working to a tight deadline.

1.open up the surface part

2.use "Offset/Thicken"

3.any clashes between parts make a sketch and cut away.

the problem is the amount of plates I have and the time it takes to sort them out.

I want to make some points in 3D sketch base on the Coordinate System that I defined (UCS).Is there any solution to make these points in 3D sketch just by inputing their coordinates in my UCS?

Example:  the new UCS origin has (x,y,z) coordinates from the origin.and one of the points has the coordinates of (x',y',z') from the UCS.

So from the origin it has the coordinates of (x+x',y+y',z+z').Is it possible to just use (x',y',z') from UCS directly to get my point?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Dimension Styles To Different Sheets In IDW

Apr 3, 2013

Is there a way to assign different dimension styles to different sheets in an idw.  I have idw drawings with several sheets and use a couple of different dimension styles depending on what is on each sheet.  I've created the dimension styles I want to use but I don't know how to assign a dimension style to a specific sheet.  For now what I am doing is dimensioning, then as needed for the dimensions that need a different style,  right click on the dimension and select new dimension style to changes its dimension style.  I would like to assign dimension styles to specific sheets, is there a way to do this?  Even though borders, title blocks, etc. are the same throughout the sheets, do I need to create different sheet formats to do this?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Balloon Renumbering Across Sheets

Jun 15, 2012

I am trying to modify the code Brian Ekins posted on Mod the Machine to renumber balloons across sheets. [uRL ....

It works great unless the item on the additional sheet is a sub-assembly.  I believe it is because PartDef is declared as a PartComponentDefinition and there is nothing in the code to handle an assembly.

Dim partDef As PartComponentDefinition
Set partDef = drawBOMRow.BOMRow.ComponentDefinitions.Item(1)
partInfo(I - 1).ReferencedFile = partDef.Document.FullFileName

The Set partDef line was giving me a runtime error when it came to an assembly in the BOM until I added

"On Error Resume Next" at the start of the loop.

I tried changing the declaration to ComponentDefinition.  It compiled fine, but didn't do anything.  I think I'll have to add some duplicate code to handle an assembly in the BOM.  Is there a better way to do this?  Am I even on the right track?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Layer Visibility On Different Sheets?

Jun 12, 2013

I am trying to control the layer visibility on different sheets of the same drawing but have not quite figured it out yet.

We add a DXF sheet to drawings with flat pattern views to export to DXF for our laser.  I wrote a VBA macro that adds the sheet, copies the flat pattern view and removes the dimensions to clean it up before creating the DXF.  I am having a problem turning off the visibility of the bend lines on JUST the DXF sheet.  I can turn bend lines and hidden lines off with this:

'Turn off bend lines and hidden linesFor Each oView In oSheet.DrawingViews 'Set the layers collection Set oLayers = oDrawingDoc.StylesManager.Layers 'Turn off all bend lines and hidden lines For Each oLayer In oLayers If Not InStr(oLayer.Name, "Bend Centerline") = 0 Or Not InStr(oLayer.Name, "Hidden") = 0 Then oLayer.Visible = False Else End If Next Next

but it turns them off on all sheets.  I want to only turn them off on the DXF sheet.  How would this be done?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Reference To Drawing Sheets?

Jun 21, 2012

We often have drawings with multiple sheets.Usually the first couple of sheets are devoted to identifying components and where they should be placed. The remaining sheets provide details on specific components (dimensions, tolerances, etc.).

It would be nice to be able to reference (associatively) other sheets, so it is easy to find information on a component when looking through the drawing package. For example, add a note that says "See sheet 12", and have the 12 update if that sheet (or drawing view?) changes location in the package.

If I wanted to link the base view to a different model, would this be possible.

When I double click on the base view it shows the file path for the model that is currently chosen; however, it is all grey and I am unable to edit it or choose another file path.

How to change this? Is this even possible? Is it because I have annotated the drawing view that I am unable to change the model path?
