AutoCAD Inventor :: Axes Rotated On Part Creation?
Aug 26, 2013
In an assembly i created a new part and the center point wasn't on the main center point. Also the axes were rotated.
How can i rotate back the new part's axes, and how to move the center point?

I'm getting the rangebox of my assembly, but am having problems getting exactly what I need. Basically, if a part in my assembly is rotated, it's like it's getting the rangebox of the part's rangebox in its new orientation. I have included pictures to show what I am getting and what I would hope to get. In the last screenshot, I have drawn a red box to show what I would like to achieve. The black box being drawn from the rangebox was created from some code I downloaded (I think from this forum, but I couldn't find it via search, here is another link

Is there anyway to do what I am needing to do?

I derived a part and added extrusion.
The original part is rotated at an arbitrary angle and i want to align the origin planes differently.

The part isn't symmetrical about the YZ plane, you can see it in the sketch of extrusion 1.
Now i started a new sketch, sketch 24, and the part is positioned like in the picture, with the YZ plane not vertical.

I am trying to align two components together by their axis as seen in the picture attached. The small mounts are to be mated to the face of the large plate at different radii and the rods connecting the rods are to be aligned along their axis.
I want to align the cylinders together by their axes and mate the mounts to their respective plates. Can axes be aligned with a student license of Inventor and if so, how?

Problem in my Inventor Fusion: as shown in the attached image, when I try to move a feature in my model, the X axis in the 3D Move/Rotate tool is not parallel with the true X axis of the model. I don't know how it got like that, but I would very much like to change it back.

I recently found an error in my top level assembly which is that the origin axes x & z are pointing in the wrong direction (x-axis points in the negative x direction and the z-axis points in the negative z direction). how to "flip" the origin axes of an assembly?
Additional information: I have a top level lattice assembly that consists of a number of lattices (a part to which components are constrained) with the lattice origin planes constrained flush with the top level lattice assembly origin planes. This top level assembly is used in many other assemblies to constrain entire systems. Re-constraining my lattices correctly inside of the top assembly is infeasible.

What was the last version of CS to include the creation of web pages as part of Automate in the File dropdown? I've tried to reinstall the original CS on a separate machine, which fails, since it does not make nice with my current version, and the Adobe folks are ABOLUTELY NO.

I have a spline that runs through about 70 points to make the perfect line. But when I rotate the sketch the spline turned from green to black and is no longer recognised as a boundary. I then have to delete the black line and re-draw. How do I keep the spline green and usable?

I have been looking at posts on automating pdf creation but have seen a lot with programming / VB involved but would like to avoid that if possible. I have also seen one's on batch processing but would like to do them as needed / completed.
I am trying to somewhat automate the pdf creation process. Having them save to a specific spot / folder and having them 'plot' the same view to the pdf would be very beneficial that way we don't have to select print, print to pdf, print this view with these details, save to this folder location. etc.

I have a 32 page Inventor DWG file I am trying to convert to a DXF file. Unfortunately when I do a save copy as DXF,
I get 32 individual DXF files. I would like one file with 32 different pages just like it was made in Inventor or just like it is done in Autocad where you have one drawing with the tabs at the bottom. Is this possible to accomplish in Inventor?

Is it possible to automate the creation of a DXF file when you save or check-in a part file from inventor. I have already set it up to create a DWF file to a shared folder on our network but we also export to DXF files as well for use in our machine shop. As of now the only way I know of doing it, is to open the .idw file and save it as a DXF manually. How to set this up to automatically create one on save or check-in.

I have tried to create deployments on the network for my products but I keep getting a "copy function fails" error once I start it.
When you first start to make a deployment it asks for a Administrative image path which I have been point at a network location (\serverpath, etc).
I did make sure that the path length was less than 73 characters (due to a previous error).
It was suggested that I make the deployment on the local machine and then move it to the network location?
However, it does not appear that you allowed to pick a local directory for this (see attached).

I just installed the trial version of Inventor pro, 2013. I'm having a problem with the view changing on creation of a sketch. It goes to the home position. The "Look at sketch plane on sketch creation" is un-ticked in options.
Click on Component->Create. Once the Component is created, click 2D Sketch. View spins to the Home position. This is really annoying. I learned Inventor 2010 in school. I don't remember this ever happening.
If I select a plane from the browser prior to clicking the Create 2D Sketch, the view remains the same as expected. This is only a problem if you want to create the initial sketch using a face of another part as the sketch plane. Is there an option I'm missing?

I've been making iLogic assemblies with hints of VB for about 6 months now. My Boss has asked me if I can write code that will effectively create drawings automatically.
What we would like to create is a rule, which when run, creates a new drawing file, places the active assembly in a base view, then place a Left, Right and Top view of the assembly and place a parts list in the top corner. Dimensions are not really important at the moment, as the sizes of the parts are in the description field and the drawings are used for assembling the product only.

I set up our company log which gets embossed on most parts as a sketch block in an .ipt. The .ipt contains nothing but the sketch block. To use it, the designer only needs to derive the Logo.ipt file into their part and then use the scale setting to set the derived block to the desired size for that part. The result is a scalable set of line geometry that can easily be used for extrusion or emboss that is standard for all users. It works beautifully, that is until you try to use it in a sheet metal part in 2012.
For some reason, when this same part, which works perfectly in normal parts, is derived into a sheet metal part an error pops up stating that, "Selected part does not have any geometry that can be derived." Say what?
I was able to find a workaround by directly copying the block into the sheet metal part, but you no longer have the ability to go back and scale it if needed. Even more strange, when the block was copied over, it could not be deleted from the new part.
Is this just a bug with 2012? Why does it work in a normal part but not sheet metal?

I`m looking for the iLogic code that can change one parameter (user defined) for each (ipt) part in assembly (iam)
The one below doesn`t work.

I would like to simplify this assembly into one seamless part for FEM calculation:The assembly consists out of parts that, in reality, will be welded together. Due to their form, there is no way to place them exactly onto each other, therefore there are slight gaps between the parts:
Now when I try to merge the assembly into one part via "simplify" --> "create simplified part" and choose "single solid body with seams between planar faces merged", Inventor does not fill these gaps (even though it displays only one part in the bottom right corner of my window). Unfortunately, the remaining gaps brings "contact" problems in the FEM simulation.
how to close the gaps and really merge the assembly into one part?

I have a part that has protrusions. When i mate that part up to another part that second part needs to have cutouts/holes to receive those protrusions.
i mainly use it in sheetmetal parts. and use the rectangular protrusions on de contour to mate up with corresponding cutouts in the other sheet. this works with positioning and also makes for a nice weld spot/area.
But also for making holes to accommodate a mold pin used in custom punch dies. I want the intervening part to receive a corresponding (propperly tolleranced) hole automatically. Much like a bolted connection does.
same for parts like circlips. i want them to automatically generate the seat in the part it's mated to. Rather than using the axle generator.
Ofcourse one can place the parts and do an in assembly interpart projection and go from there, but i want the part to generate the (predifined) modification to the other part. It would save time and also reduces problems as the parts are moved about or even removed.

In previous releases (2009 i think) when i converted a standard part to a sheet metal part i could recall all the sheet metal styles by linking back to the sheet metal template (i can't remember exactly how this was done, but it was possible with one operation)
In 2011 i canot find a quick way of doing this, it looks like i have to open the sheet metal template and export each different style (about 40 of them) and then import each one into the converted part. am i missing something? is there a simpler way similar to how it used to be done? Why have Autodesk made this more difficult?
As it stands at the moment it would be quicker for me to remodel the parts from scratch using the sheet metal template. I know this is the obvious solution, but seems strange to change something that worked well to something that doesn't!
