AutoCAD Inventor :: Gear Rotation In Planetary Gear Drive?

Jan 20, 2012

Inventor 2012

I'm not able to get the right gear rotation in a planetary gear drive that I'm working on.

If I make the ring gear stationary and rotate the sun gear, the planetary gear engages and rotates around the  ring gear

but in the opposite direction of what it should be turning.  The planet to sun gear engagement rotates backwards regardless of what I do to the rotation constraint that I've applied.

If I make the ring gear free to rotate, and the planet gear stationary, the gear train rotates properly.

I've attached a mock up of the plant gear system to share and show what I'm dealing with.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Emboss For Engraving Can't Work - 2012?

Oct 2, 2012

The subject basically says it all. I am trying to emboss two words onto a solid model. Unfortunately it keeps failing. I am copying this model off of U-Tube models "LED LAMP"

How to use emboss feature and engrave the words "LED LAMP" On the centre of the top of my solid model part. Top View reads vertically going up the way.

save it and send it back or explain why it keeps failing.

edit part 8. Then start the Emboss process. 1/64 = Depth. Flat White colour. Following the video on youtube they use engrave from face then reverse the direction the arrow points towards the model. Then OK. That's the way I am showed  it and I can't get it to engrave.

AutoCAD Inventor :: 2012 - Work Point In DXF Of Sheet Metal Part

Jul 16, 2012

We have a custom-made sheet metal punch consisting of a 5x5 matrix of 1/8" holes. We export flat patterns from Inventor as DXFs.

We normally make DXFs by creating a view of the flat pattern on a blank IDW template (no border, no title block, nothing) and export that view as a DXF. This lets us orient the view at will, unlike right-clicking on the flat pattern in the browser and selecting Save Copy As.

When the sheet metal guy assigns tooling in his software, he needs to get each punch to "lock onto" the corresponding feature in the DXF. Normally this isn't a problem, but it has been with this gang punch. The center hole of the punch needs to lock onto the correct hole in the DXF, and it can't always seem to do it. I've sat alongside the guy as he does this, and in his software the centers of the circles show up as dots/points. But on this punch, there isn't necessarily a dot in the center of every circle, and it's possible that the center hole, which really needs the dot, won't have one.

I've come up with a workaround for this: a work point in the IPT. In the attached part, it's feature Tooling1. The sheet metal guy confirms that if I include the work point in the DXF as a point (in the AutoCAD sense), he can lock onto it. However, I find that if I generate a DXF from the flat-pattern IDW, the point is lost. If I generate an ACAD DWG from the IDW and save the DWG as a DXF, the point comes through in the DXF. But that's an extra step.

Is there a way to export directly from IDW to DXF and not lose the work point? Or is this as good as it gets?

For the sake of simplicity, the attached part has no bends. I realize that if I did, I'd have to re-create the points in the flat pattern, but that's another discussion.

I'm a computer tech in a school that uses Inventor 2012. After cloning the computers, if I log in using a profile that was there before, I can access the content service but when a student logs in, nothing happen when trying to access it. I looked for the .exe.config files in the Inventor bin directory but could not find anything related to the computer name. The structure is different in this version.

With the common knowledge of Inventor having a Spur gear generator, please I need calling that Spur gear generator from my API. Note that I am using VB for the programming and I have use Try and Catch for linking my API to the inventor. So on starting debugging my API, Inventor starts just as the example in the my first pluggin.

The Only thing remaining is to link my API to the Spur Gear Generator.

But if i select, by doubleclicking, the reducer, it becomes active again. The problem is that i want to connect the reducer to another gear assembly and watch it interact.

AutoCAD Inventor :: Planetary Gear Set Constraints

Oct 10, 2013

the .iam assembly and the .ipt parts are to follow.I'm not very concerned with the teeth meshing properly at this stage. I just want to get the rotational constraints correct first.  There are two situations that I am trying to work out, and I think I took care of the first one.

Situation 1: Blue carrier is grounded.
Input: Rotate purple sun gear.
Result: red planets turn the orange planets which turn the green sun(green sun to purple sun ratio = 1:1 but in the opposite direction)
Situation 2: Purple sun is grounded (Blue carrier is released)
Input: rotate the blue carrier

Result: I want the planets to still be able to rotate, and basically be driven by the purple sun which is being held. This should then drive the green sun to rotate in the same direction as the blue carrier gears.

The issue here is clearly that the red planets will not rotate since the purple sun is grounded.  What should the constraints be instead of a simple rotational motion constraint? In a perfect world, I would like to not have to ground the purple sun, and only have the purple sun rotate when I specifically rotate it. The main input to this system is rotating the blue carrier gear. The purple sun is simply a control/variant.

I have tried in vain to construct a planetary gear train in Inventor 2011 & the spur gear generator hasn't work much since the results are far from good, I have problems getting all the gears to fit together. The Internal gear has a diametrical pitch of d=120mm & the smallest gear a diametrical pitch of d=20mm, the outcome should produce a 6:1 gear ratio. The 3 other gears only offer stabillity, but I still need to know how I get it all to fit together with my measurements?

Problem is, I put a helical gear drawing on the shop floor and they machinist wonder why I have two rows of teeth on the gear (since it shows the front face and the helix'd gear teeth).

Any way to remove said offending gear teeth?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Planetary / Cyclical Gear Systems

Apr 19, 2013

I'm trying to create a few sets of planetary gears and I'm running up against a wall here.

Both sets, for simplicity, need 1:4 ratios which makes the planet and sun gears the same size. I was using 20 teeth for the planets/sun and 60 teeth for the ring which based on my understanding of the ratios, should work. My problem arises when I attempt to get all of these gears(sun, four planets, and the ring) to mesh and rotate.

I can't figure out how to make sets of more than two gears using the Spur Gear tool. When I make the other gears on their own and add them to the system, they don't inherently mesh and pass through each other. Obviously I'm missing something here because I clearly need more than a two gear system.

As a side question, is there a method(Derived Parts, maybe?) through which I can add to a gear made with the Spur Gear tool to create a new part that will still function as a proper gear?

AutoCAD Inventor :: Create Spur Gear In Autodesk

Apr 9, 2010

I am trying to create a spur gear in Autodesk Inventor 11 using the Spur Gears Component Generator in the Design Accelerator. I have been given diminsions for the Spir Gear as followed but don't know how to enter them because there is only a limited amount of values:

Number of teeth........10
Diametric pitch.........9.6
Circulator pitch.........0.32725
Pitch diameter..........1.0416
Outside diameter......1.25
Root diameter...........0.8006
Addendum...............0.10416
Dedendum...............0.10416
Clearance................0.163541
Whole depth............0.22466
Circular thickness....0.163625
Fillet.......................0.03125
Pressure angle........9.00

I enter in the Addendum, Clearance, and Pressure Angle and it says that the values are Ambiguous Inputs. Is there any way that I can create this gear? it doesn't matter about the Loads, Material Values, and Inputs in the Calculations tab.

AutoCAD LT :: 2012 - Insert Text Into Block That Contains A Field

Apr 26, 2012

I want to insert a text into a block that contains a field.  The field I want to look up the value of an attribute that is also contained in the block.  Now when I have this complete and then change the block attribute the fields do not update to the new value of the attribute.  An example file is attached.

Now I am open to creating the block in a different way, so any way to make this concept work?  I want everything to be contained in the block.

I already tried to work around my problem by making 2 separate attributes, where the 2nd attribute contains the field that looks up the value of the 1st attribute - this did not work.  Another thing I tried was after the block was made, I edit the 2nd attribute by inserting the field and this worked fine - the down side is that the field is not the default of the attribute (so the block must already be present in the drawing model space and that instance must be copied to make more).
