AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Updating Surface To Recognise Modified Point Cloud
Dec 13, 2012
I have a surface based on a point cloud. I decided to add a few more tiles of data to the point cloud and was expecting that the surface would update (after rebuilding) to include the new extents - but there was no change. The surface doesn't have any boundaries or breaklines but does have edits.
Do I need to add points to surface again? Will this duplicate the orignal point data or would it just add the new data. I didn't want to lose my edits if possible.
I know that there is a limitation on the numbers of points added to a surface from a point cloud. But I'm curious how Civil 3D determines which points to exclude from the surface. Is there a special alorithm/criteria the software uses?
I created an alignment in one file. Then in another file I data shortcut that alignment in. From there I created an existing ground profile using that alignment. Later I modified the alignment. When I go into my profile drawing containing the existing ground profile, it did not update. I have had this happen on several projects and I can not figure out why it is not updating. My station range on the existing ground profile is set to automatic.
I used to do this all the time in 2012 and never had this problem. I am using 2013 with the latest update..
I have a point cloud of an excavation surface, i want to create a surface from this points. 3d civil can do it but im not 3d civil user, is there any way to do it in autocad or in 3ds max.
I have a DXF and a skip file of a room i'd like to convert to surfaces i can use in inventor 2010. I hear this can be done with inventor 2013?
The files are too large to attach. _____________________________________________ Inventor 2012 Pro Windows 7 64 bit Core I5 2410M processor | GeForceGT 525M graphics card | 8G RAM
Using Civil 3D 2013, Faro Scene 4.8.2.25521, Kubit PointCloud Pro 8.0.4.7.
Is it possible to turn off the bounding box on a non-Civil 3D, .PCG point cloud that was indexed into Civil 3d directly from the Faro .FWS file using the "POINTCLOUDINDEX" command?
How can I rotate my point cloud to have the front view on the top. I want to optimize the surface creation on the lateral surface of a deck and not on the ground (top) surface. I think to rotate 90 degrees on the X or Y axis.
Civil 3D point cloud tools (ribbon) are different than AutoCAD's. Is there a way to bring up AutoCAD's point cloud ribbon in addition to Civil 3D's ribbon?I guess if the commands are the same, I can just copy the ribbon from AutoCAD's CUI and plop it into Civil 3D's CUI.
But, is there a better way or is there something I'm missing?I'm looking for the clipping tools and the point cloud display otions (scan colors, elevation, normal, intensity, etc.)
I have a drawing with some cross sections of road showing the Proposed road surface and Existing ground surface. Now we have received a new ground surface and we have to supersede the old ground surfae with the new one. is there any way to swap the surface in the existing cross sections?
I am working with a Lidar dataset that is over 34 million points. It covers an area far larger than I need for our project. I have experimented with point clouds and am able to process and generate a surface from the data by applying a clip boundary to the surface. The problem with this is the surface only has about 540k points out the total dataset and it appears that the points have been greatly reduced in density. I am thinking this is due to the way C3D limits large data sets to display only 1.5 million points and thus my surface data is highly filtered since it is extracted from a small area of the dataset. I have tried setting point cloud display to 100%.
can I somehow filter my point cloud so that I can reduce the area of coverage and thus increase the density that is extracted into my surface?
while i am trying to load my point cloud files the points appeared in the model but not all points
i entered to the setting of the point cloud from the toolspace toolbar , i found that there are about 32 million points but only 700000 points are displayed in the drawing. Is there a way to display all the loaded points in my drawing to show all the points since i need to render a high resolution pictures for my lots.
I created a surface in 2013 for an old project by importing a TIN from LDD, which worked fine, but the survey crew recently went back to the same site and did an update (asbuilt) with updated elevations. A good portion of the survey is still accurate and has not changed, but there was an area of new construction. My question is what is the best way to remove the old TIN lines (that are actually still connecting some old, incorrect survey points) and incorporate the new elevations that will now reflect new TIN lines in certain areas. Basically, I need to get rid of some old TIN lines and replace with new and updated survey. The surface in LDD used a point group, which was fine then, but now some of those points in that point group are incorrect.
I have a point cloud with 161 million points in it. This is basically fine and works well but I need to create equally high resolution surfaces from certain regions of the point cloud. No matter what size I choose my export shape, it will only create a surface from a ridiculously small 750,000 odd points, a 'feature' which has been documented on these forums before. I have POINTCLOUDDENSITY set to 100.
My question is, how can I build a surface from this high resolution point cloud data that has more than 750,000 odd points?
I'm thinking about mosaic'ing - ie. making several smaller surfaces over the required area and pasting them together.
2012 SP2. I get this very descriptive message while trying to create a point cloud: The following error occurred processing the point cloud data: An error ocurred in data processing.
I've previously created point clouds from the same data (ENZ comma delimited) without a problem. I believe this was done before applying SP2. Any problems creating point clouds since SP2?
I might be missing somehting completely, but I am reading with Civil 3D 2013 you should be able to clip a Point Cloud, but I am not seeing the clipping panel under the point cloud tab.
I see that the Point Cloud Feature Extraction is now part of the Productivity Tools for Civil 3d 2012. Are these tools available in 2013? I am not seeing them anywhere. It seems goofy that there would be more tools available for the old release - what's the incentive to make the switch? Would you expect they will be available for 2013 sometime soon? I'm not complaining, I really like 2012
See pic. Top pic is 2013 point cloud properties. bottom pic is 2011 point cloud properties. 2013 has a new 'point cloud adjust' option in properties.
Both drawings have same 'Lidar Classification' Style, but 2013 is all gray. I tried changing some fields inside the properties for 2013 under the point cloud adjust to no avail.
why this is like this and what I need to do to see the different colors for the different classifications.
Im experimenting with C3D2012, and found an issue... (Same issue is found in C3D2011)
When I change a points Raw Description to anything that isn't listed in the DescKey, the Full Description does not change. It will only change/update the Full Description if the new Raw Description is contained within the DescKey file.
Original Point Raw Description as "EP" - DescKey format for "EP" is "Edge Pavement" - Full Description = "Edge Pavement"
Change Point Raw Description to "X" - No listing for "X" in DescKey - Full Description stays "Edge Pavement"
Change Point Code to "GS" - DescKey format for "GS" is "Ground Shot" - Full Description updates to "Ground Shot"
While most of the time any updated code SHOULD be in the DescKey file, I can see times where that may not be the case, so it should update even if it doesn't find the Raw Description in the DescKey file.
I am starting a Job in 2013 for the first time. Upgrade form 2011 C3D. The pipe structures are no longer updating when the surface updates. It will obtain an elevation from the surface when the structure is created but when I change the surface or even set the structure to a new surface, the Top of Casting will not update. Any thoughts as to whether or not this is a 2013 issue or if there is a new setting I need to change? This worked perfectly in 2011. I didn't use 2012.
It was in Feb - March 2012. I was then using AutoCAD Civil 3D 2012. I had faced a problem of getting ground data for a large surface by using satellite imageries processed by some government wing of USA (NASA?), have lost track of it.
I have a point cloud dwg. Is there a way to increase the number of points displayed? The properties of the cloud say there is 14,000,000, but it only displays 34,000. Is there a way to increase the 34,000 number? See Image.
I have got a csv file and want to add to the surface but it says error in adding point file.....don't know what to do. Size of the csv is 13MB and contains about 0.2million points.
how to match up certain points. I have imported 2 point clouds and have tried to use the 'align' tool to specify three points from the source object (cloud) and three points from the destination object (cloud). When doing this, it does not properly align them. The point cloud makes it difficult to select the exact point I would like to align, since there may not be a point at that exact location, but close to it. Does AutoCAD require the points in alignment to match up perfectly or is it capable of doing a best fit?
Also, is AutoCAD capable of creating a solid 3D piece from the point cloud? I would like to take all of my points and make a smooth object.
Am I correct in assuming that if Surface Labels by One Point is chosen, the slope as shown is the maximum slope of the surface triangle where the point was chosen??

I'm working on a topo survey and the contours are crossing each others (See attached pic) and what I did was edit the surface by adding points. I know that these points are fake, but how does this affect the terrain surface for design point of view? I did try swapping edge and deleting lines but makes it worse. Also as you can see in the pic, I don't see the added points like it did back C3D 2008.
