Aug 7, 2012Point Cloud Index fails on Faro Scans that work in 2012???? Tools in 2013 seem better. Civil 3D and Point Cloud data.

AutoCAD Map 3D :: How To Delete Index File For Point Cloud Data
Jul 16, 2013I'm hoping this could be a quick fix without completely reinstalling CAD.
I jammed too much LiDAR data into my Index file for point cloud data, and now I can not even open it. Even new drawings are trying to open the overall index with everything in it.
What I want to do is just delete the whole thing and start fresh again, but not sure how to do that. If I could open it once I could start deleting stuff from it, but it is too large to even open.
AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Creating TIN From Point Cloud
Dec 11, 2011I have been searching for a solution to a problem i have been having. I have a point cloud, and I am wanting to TIN it to create a surface.
When I use the Create Surface tool, no dialog box appears. Everything I have found seems to rely on this Dialog Box. How to get it to display?

Is it possible to turn off the bounding box on a non-Civil 3D, .PCG point cloud that was indexed into Civil 3d directly from the Faro .FWS file using the "POINTCLOUDINDEX" command?

May 23, 2012How can I rotate my point cloud to have the front view on the top. I want to optimize the surface creation on the lateral surface of a deck and not on the ground (top) surface. I think to rotate 90 degrees on the X or Y axis.

Nov 19, 2013Civil 3D point cloud tools (ribbon) are different than AutoCAD's. Is there a way to bring up AutoCAD's point cloud ribbon in addition to Civil 3D's ribbon?I guess if the commands are the same, I can just copy the ribbon from AutoCAD's CUI and plop it into Civil 3D's CUI.
But, is there a better way or is there something I'm missing?I'm looking for the clipping tools and the point cloud display otions (scan colors, elevation, normal, intensity, etc.)
AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Clip Or Filter Point Cloud
Sep 1, 2011I am working with a Lidar dataset that is over 34 million points. It covers an area far larger than I need for our project. I have experimented with point clouds and am able to process and generate a surface from the data by applying a clip boundary to the surface. The problem with this is the surface only has about 540k points out the total dataset and it appears that the points have been greatly reduced in density. I am thinking this is due to the way C3D limits large data sets to display only 1.5 million points and thus my surface data is highly filtered since it is extracted from a small area of the dataset. I have tried setting point cloud display to 100%.
can I somehow filter my point cloud so that I can reduce the area of coverage and thus increase the density that is extracted into my surface?

May 28, 2012while i am trying to load my point cloud files the points appeared in the model but not all points
i entered to the setting of the point cloud from the toolspace toolbar , i found that there are about 32 million points but only 700000 points are displayed in the drawing. Is there a way to display all the loaded points in my drawing to show all the points since i need to render a high resolution pictures for my lots.
AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Increase Number Of Points In Point Cloud?
Feb 21, 2013I have a point cloud with 161 million points in it. This is basically fine and works well but I need to create equally high resolution surfaces from certain regions of the point cloud. No matter what size I choose my export shape, it will only create a surface from a ridiculously small 750,000 odd points, a 'feature' which has been documented on these forums before. I have POINTCLOUDDENSITY set to 100.
My question is, how can I build a surface from this high resolution point cloud data that has more than 750,000 odd points?
I'm thinking about mosaic'ing - ie. making several smaller surfaces over the required area and pasting them together.

Jul 10, 20122012 SP2. I get this very descriptive message while trying to create a point cloud: The following error occurred processing the point cloud data: An error ocurred in data processing.
I've previously created point clouds from the same data (ENZ comma delimited) without a problem. I believe this was done before applying SP2. Any problems creating point clouds since SP2?

Feb 13, 2013I might be missing somehting completely, but I am reading with Civil 3D 2013 you should be able to clip a Point Cloud, but I am not seeing the clipping panel under the point cloud tab.

Jun 7, 2012I see that the Point Cloud Feature Extraction is now part of the Productivity Tools for Civil 3d 2012. Are these tools available in 2013? I am not seeing them anywhere. It seems goofy that there would be more tools available for the old release - what's the incentive to make the switch? Would you expect they will be available for 2013 sometime soon? I'm not complaining, I really like 2012

Nov 1, 2012See pic. Top pic is 2013 point cloud properties. bottom pic is 2011 point cloud properties. 2013 has a new 'point cloud adjust' option in properties.
Both drawings have same 'Lidar Classification' Style, but 2013 is all gray. I tried changing some fields inside the properties for 2013 under the point cloud adjust to no avail.
why this is like this and what I need to do to see the different colors for the different classifications.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Updating Surface To Recognise Modified Point Cloud
Dec 13, 2012I have a surface based on a point cloud. I decided to add a few more tiles of data to the point cloud and was expecting that the surface would update (after rebuilding) to include the new extents - but there was no change. The surface doesn't have any boundaries or breaklines but does have edits.
Do I need to add points to surface again? Will this duplicate the orignal point data or would it just add the new data. I didn't want to lose my edits if possible.

May 30, 2012how to match up certain points. I have imported 2 point clouds and have tried to use the 'align' tool to specify three points from the source object (cloud) and three points from the destination object (cloud). When doing this, it does not properly align them. The point cloud makes it difficult to select the exact point I would like to align, since there may not be a point at that exact location, but close to it. Does AutoCAD require the points in alignment to match up perfectly or is it capable of doing a best fit?
Also, is AutoCAD capable of creating a solid 3D piece from the point cloud? I would like to take all of my points and make a smooth object.

Nov 9, 2012i need to know if there is any way to control the points in the point cloud.
1. either only import the point cloud in a polyline area i specify
2. add all the points within a boundary not limited to the pointclouddensity = 100, freaking default is 15 almost cost my job today. extremely stressed out right now.
i am talking about extreme lidar surveys. 1km 1km LAS/0.5m contours/xyz files times 355 of them. covers a 2km wide corridor. but i only need 100m wide after i define the road alignment. no need to have all the extra points.
right now i densify the heck out of it and end up like 5-12m points. decent but not good enough because the geotech is bitching about that accuracy is not good for some feasibility study. or is there any software i can do this besides civil 3d.
what i want can also do is automate the 'add points to surface" under point cloud and have the software do multiple boundaries without having me baby it over the night. right now every click is 5 minutes and adds like 400k to 1 million points. Civil 3D 2012

Mar 8, 2011I can get my stylised map from Promap into Map3d 2011, and I have tried importing the point cloud data which I have as a esri ascii grid file, it is basically 3 columns of numbers:- for north, east and height.
Unfortunately when I choose to format as nez (when importing) it turns the whole lot round by 90degrees ...
I have tried importing it as enz but no joy, and also in niether case will it align with my map (have tried using coords and not using coords).

AutoCad 3D :: Snapping With Point Cloud
Jan 3, 2012I am trying to trace part of my point cloud, which has been aligned according to a new UCS I set. Drawing on the top down view, a poly line works fine out in the black ether or the model space, however when I attempt to trace over the point cloud it shoots way off in the distance.
My node snapping is turned off of course, but this only happens when I click over a part of the point cloud, as if it was snapping to the cloud and getting confused.
When I turn snapping off completely I can click anywhere I want and I'm fine. This suggests to me that it is a snapping issue, although I was under the assumption that "Node" was the only snap setting that related to point clouds.

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Creating An Index Of Sheets?
Mar 18, 2013I created plan and profile sheets using the P&P tools. Then I created a new drawing and attached (XREF) the dwg with the viewframes in it. Then I set the viewframe layer to Plot instead of non-plot and I changed the color so that it would be heavy (we use CTB).
Then when I went to my PSPACE layout to try and plot, the viewframes are NOT there. The layer IS turned on, because there's a PLINE that I drew on that layer and it DOES show up. When in modelspace, the viewframes are there and the color did change as expected.
So why do they disappear when I'm on the layout tab?
The goal is to create a plottable sheet that identifies where each sheet is (I want to point to each viewframe and lable them C-101, C-102 etc).

Nov 22, 2011I was wondering if there is a way to select specific 3D points out of a point cloud (.pcg). I am new with Autocad and handling of point clouds .
I can think of various things that you might want to do, as in clean up a bit the data or even delete some areas that you are not interested with. additionally, one might want to do some calculations, so selecting points first and the running a list script to use that points can be handy as well.

Mar 7, 2013I'm working with a point cloud in 2013. The color comes in when I convert to .pcg and import into Revit. But I can't get the color to display in CAD. I've heard it may be a visual style problem, or a setting in my hardware acceleration, but nothing seems to work.
