So I have a proposed storm sewer pipe network and 90% of pipes snap to the structures fine, with a start/lengthen snap on one end and an end/lengthen on the other, and a location/pipe diameter one in the middle. When I go to draw one of the pipes though, I draw structure to structure and it doesn't sit properly. I click on it to make sure it snapped to the structure but there is no start, end, or lengthen snaps on either end of the pipe. Only a Location/Pipe Diameter one in the middle. Therefore, I cannot manipulate it's length or where it connects, I can only move it around from the center.
View 5 Replies View RelatedWhen I'm drawing in pipe networks I like to use a user created block for structures. I do this by manually inserting the block I need (DI, MH, etc.) at each structure location. Since there are different blocks for different structures, having the structure itself display as a user block via the structure style isn't really an option since it will display the same block for all structures unless you make a style for each type of structure. So I like to have my structures set to display on a non-plotting layer via the style display layers. This way I can still select and modify its properties, but it won't show up on a plot.
My question is: If the style display layer is a non-plotting layer, why is the "object layer" (0 layer in the case) overwriting the display layer and causing the structure outline to plot?
If I put the display layers of the pipes onto a non-plotting layer, they will not plot even if the object layer is a plotting layer. The workaround so far is to select all the structures and set their object layer to a non-plotting layer, but this is not ideal.
I oftenly do conception for parkings and always need to have the calculated rentention of water volume in the pipe network.is there a way to have that information with Civil 3d ?

I am starting a Job in 2013 for the first time. Upgrade form 2011 C3D. The pipe structures are no longer updating when the surface updates. It will obtain an elevation from the surface when the structure is created but when I change the surface or even set the structure to a new surface, the Top of Casting will not update. Any thoughts as to whether or not this is a 2013 issue or if there is a new setting I need to change? This worked perfectly in 2011. I didn't use 2012.

is there any quick way to assign reference aligment to pipe network parts?
I use practise to create one pipe network and afterwards i expand my pipenetwork by editing with lots of aligments (create aligment from network part function i use). Bur there occur a problem in my profile view, when i want to represent station value of aligment and there is now reference aligment in pipe part.
I have a bunch (hundreds, so manual input not an option) of X,Y points without elevation data that I would like to import into a DWG and assign an elevation that is based on an existing surface object. Is there a way to do this for a point file? The command for inserting individual points would be the "Create points - Surface > Random" but I don't see a way to do this in a batch type method where i have my PNE formatted input file to just move the points to sit on the existing surface.
View 2 Replies View Related I'm trying to add assign a Pipe Network to a profile view Band in Civil 3D 2011. I was using COM to add profiles to bands because I couldn't figure out how to do it in .NET. But when it comes to pipe networks I don't see how you can do that with COM. How the .NET implementation is supposed to work? Here's the code I have that works for COM, except for the pipe networks. I essentially need to assign the correct pipe network to the band.

I am using Civil 3D 2013. I work in an office where we have a few different flavors of Autocad (LT, MEP, regular vanilla AutoCAD etc...) and versions (2010 LT, 2011, 2012, 2013).
For the most part there isn't much inter-office drawing coordinate that has to happen, but there is the occasional project where multiple disciplines (Structural, Mechanical and Civil Site) have to share drawings.
The specific problem I am having is when I share my 2013 Civil 3D drawing with a user using 2011 MEP. He gets the typical rectangle for the proxy objects (in my case, my pipe networks for sanitary and storm drain). We've tried downloading and installing various object enablers, but there doesn't seem to be one for a 2013 to 2011 scenario. So I setup my parts to be on layers that he can just turn off. HOWEVER... the actual pipe network (not the structures, parts, labels etc... the network itself) ends up on layer 0. For this specific project, I do the old (ssget "x" '((8 . "0")) search to select all objects on layer 0, add those objects to a selection set (pselect), then in my modify objects dialog I filter for pipe networks, then change the layer to something other then 0.
While this is a workaround that works for me, what I really want to know is if there is a way that I can change the default layer that the network (again, not pipes, structures or text, the actual network) so I don't have to use the workaround. Any thoughts?
P.S. It's killing me that I had to create a new Autodesk login and now all my AutoCAD "street cred" is lost

Need getting pipe top elevation in profile view data band? In labels it's possible to perform calculations via expressions. In data bands – not. Inablity to get pipe outside top elevation in profile view leads to dead end in my hunt for smooth workflow.

I am creating sewer laterals that need to connect to the sewer main that I have already created. My problem is that I can't find a way to find out the invert elevation of the sewer main at the specific point that the sewer lateral will be tying in to. I no longer have an alignment or profile for the sewer main and I hope that I don't have to re-create them. I just want to pick a point on the pipe and have it tell me that vital information. Is there any way that I can do this in plan view?
I'm trying to create a trench with pipe corridor along the alignment.
What I've did:
-create an alignment;
-create a pipe nework based on my alignment;
-then I made a profile with my pipe network and draw profile;
-create an assembley;
-create a corridor with one baseline.
When I've checked the corridor I found some weird spotes that are linked to zero elevation.
I've created another alignment from daylight of my corridor, but it doesn't worked.
Where mistake is???

when creating a pipe network, and the slope of the pipe end is say at a 35% from start to end, the crown of the pipe is at a 90 degree angle from the invert elevation (straight up). So if I have an invert elevation of 288.3' the pipe crown elevation is at 292.5'. I need to show the end of the pipe crown perpendicular to the invert elevation so that it reads 292.0'!

View 2 Replies View RelatedI think that our file has been corrupted. We tried to adjust the elevation of a 6-inch sewer pipe in the profile and then the display of the pipe went up to a 12-inch, even though the pipe properties still show it as a 6. All the other pipe sizes seem to be working, though we did have a similar problem with 4-inch pipe the day before and fixed it with an audit. Audit does not fix this problem. It seems to apply to all six inch pipes.
The file was created in Civil 3D 2007. We are now using C3D 2012 with SP1. My machine is 64-bit but the other person working in the file has 32-bit.
I have attached the file and the pipe in question is in the sewer network and is named SP B 11.
Is there any hope for this file? Of course this is right as we are trying to meet a deadline.
PS I tried to add the file but was size restricted, then I trimmed the file down to under 1.5 MB and was still size restricted.
I am trying to create an elevation label that will give me the spot elevation followed by the letters "TC" and then on the line below subtract 4 inches from the elevation followed by the letters "BC". It's easy enogh to add the letters but the simple equation of elevation - 4 inches eludes me.

A few weeks ago I did not have this problem but once my computer was switched to the company's global server and c3d was reinstalled the problem appeared. Furthermore (post switchover), when a colleage of mine prepared a simple test drawing with just a line and a point, he was able to snap to that line without the point changing elevation. When he sent that drawing to me and I tried snapping the point to the object, the same problem occured with the point taking the elevation of the line object. I suspect it is a system variable issue
i have some existing drainage pipe and structures in a base plan that i need to change the invert (which is the easy part) and the top elevation to the existing top elevation that does not meet the minimum presect in civil 3d 2012 is there a way to change these min. to match my exisitng elevation for example i have a catch basin invert is 15.45 top is 17.56 with a 18" rcp the cover will be less than 12" and i need to change this.

View 1 Replies View RelatedOne of the things I seem to struggle with is being able to depict a single pipe when it needs to be shown in one profile as a crossing pipe, and another profile where you you show a lenghwise slice through the pipe. I end up tracing the pipe with eliptical objects where I'm cutting across the pipe and setting up more for the lengthwise/sideview of the pipe. Is there a way to have two different styles for the same pipe, one for a cross cut and one for a lengthwise slice?

How do I model (or calculate) the fewest welds/fittings required to change angle and elevation in a pipe run, as shown in Option1 below.
For this example the constants are: 8" standard steel pipe, one of the fittings is a standard butt weld 45 (12" radius), bend angle is 70 degrees, and the elevation change is 9". The custom fitting is cut from a standard 8" long radius 90.
Note: Option2 is just shown for reference, I'm only interested in solving Option1

View 6 Replies View RelatedI've placed generic Junction box structures right out of the box from C3D and when I cut a section, the section shows the wrong side of the structure. (Rotated) i.e. An inserted 60”x36” junction box inserted as a curb inlet and then rotated into position will display the 60” side even though it’s perpendicular to the section line.
I've had to go back and place a 36”x60” to get it to display the 36” side in section? Why is there a “rotation handle” on the structure if you can’t really rotate it?I really don't want to swap all 60"x36" with 36"x60" structures just so they will display properly in section.
