Feb 20, 2013What formula Civil3D uses to calculate the average slope of a surface?
The formula I am using is S = I*L/A
S = Average Slope
I = Contour Invertval
L = Length of Contours (ft)
A = Area of parcel (sq. ft)
I just had to do four parcel calcs and the percentage I find using the formula is always 1-3% lower than the percentage Civil3D spits out. I can't find anything about how Civil3D arrives at that number, it just appears. I assume that Civil3D is more accurate but I can't give that number to a client without knowing how the program arrived there.
AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Average Level Within An Area
Feb 18, 2013I have been able to undertake this with other software and have desperately tried to find this same function in Civil 3D .
Is there a command that returns the average level of any particular surface within a specified area, for instance if we have a generated a large surface and then draw a square in the middle of the surface, can it calculate the average level within the square only?

May 16, 2013Any quick way of calculating average Parcel Area? I used to export to LandXML and do an area report in CSV. That doesn't seem to be working for me when I export out of C3D 2012.
The workaround I found was to select all the parcels in Prospector, copy to clip board, paste in excel, find and replace "_Sq. Ft._" with 0, then do the average.
AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Average Elevation For Zoning Analysis?
Nov 8, 2013We have to compute the average elevation along the front, sides and rear of a proposed building envelope to calculate the required set back.
Right now I am setting FL with elevation nodes at the required interval, assigning EG elevation and pasting from the panorama to excel to compute the average.
Is there a way I could create a toolbox report to do this? Maybe even from a profile report?

AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Map - Calculate Area-proportional (weighted) Average Out Of Metadata
Aug 6, 2012I have an acad document connected to some .shp files, which contain polygonal shapes with some meta-tags.
I want to achieve the following: draw a polygonal shape and select all the tangent areas (I already know how to do so)take a property of those areas and calculate an area-proportional [or: area weighted] average value (proportional to the partial area defined by the drawn polygonal shape). I tried to achieve this by splitting the objects and merging them again with defined splitting (area proportional) and merging (average) options. The problem is: splitting & merging doesn't work until I disconnect the data files (checking the objects out doesn't work) and even then I can't split the areas. And, more important: This doesn't create a weighted average and I don't even want to manipulate the objects! I just want to get one value out of all these steps.
I appended a screenshot of my file. E.g. I want to take the value 923.2 and multiply it with the corresponding area percentage it represents in the drawn shape. So the calculation would look something like 0.02*923.2 + 0.2*926 + 0.12*945,9 [...] until all the 100% are covered and I get one single representative value.
I use AutoCAD Civil 3D 2012 on an Intel Core i7, 12GB RAM, 64bit Win 7 Pro SP 1 PC.

Nov 7, 2013How come when you try and check a distance on an alignment, and say I try and click on one of the tick marks it will not snap to the intersection of the tick mark....it like jumps off like half a foot and will not give you an accurate measurement?

Currently working on monitoring surveys and have to show the movement of beams for the shoring walls.
The crew sets the benchmarks and every week goes back ties them in. I am currently measuring the horizontal, lateral, and vertical movement manually and then taking the numbers and typing them in excel.
is there a way to select the 2 points and it automatically insert the difference in a table?
AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Mtext Column Width
May 3, 2012Any way to make Acad C3D hold the value for MTEXTCOLUMN = 0? I am having issues with it resetting my column width to 0, even after I have formatted all the Mtext to read how I want it shown. Once I close a drawing and open it again, the formatting changes that I have previously set return to "dynamic" and column width = 0. I just want to turn off the dynamic setting so it stops messing up the formatting, but I can't get it to retain the dynamic setting. Currently running C3D 2012.

Jan 9, 2014I'm having trouble with the spacing of my text when I import a .rtf file. The spaces change width based on the width of the columns. The problem does not effect all the paragraphs only select ones. If I change the width of the column the spacing of the text will fix itself. All of the text is the same text style. I have attached a copy for reference.

Jun 26, 2013Let's say I have an assembly called Original, as shown below with a 6m wide lane. Now I want to target it to 8m wide for some road widening. Now, will it stretch along the slope of the subassembly (Case 1) until 8m width, or will it just shift laterally to 8m (Case 2)?
I know that we can set the default slope of it, but I'm not sure if it gets overriden due to the Target-width process.
AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Sidewalk Not Following Target Width Alignment?
Mar 26, 2012I have a variable sidewalk width and would like my corridor to follow sidewalk as defined by Target Alignment for Sidewalk width (polyline). My sidewalk is merging at ends with roadway however my corridor feature lines presenting sidewalk is not following/merging with target. In all other locations, it follows the target width however where sidewalk merges with road, feature line goes straight.
Attached PDF should hopefully explain what I want to say. Could not attached dwg due to size issue.
I am using Basic Curb and Urban sidewalk assembly wherein my Blvd targets are set to 0 (none).
How can I make my corridor follow sidewalk width target exactly.
I am using C3D 2010 , Win 7 Pro.

Aug 1, 2012I have an "ultimate" profile that has be set for a proposed roadway the first 1500' of the roadway will be constructed at this final profile while the last 900' will be constructed for an interim design not at the full depth pavement. So my typical for the final is 9.25 inch of pavement over 14" of stone and the interim is 4" over the same 14" of stone when we transition from the 4" to the 9.25" we are using a 20:1 taper the question is how to model this taper condition and have you had any success.

Sep 13, 2013I have a survey symbol for a tree that is created using two polyline arcs with width to make a solid circle. It is scalable in the desc key by tree size.
Sometimes when I plot a drawing the tree symbols plot (both paper and pdf) as "spokes on a tire", like a line with a polar array. (Even though the style is created with 2 polyline arcs with width)
If I explode the point object (not anywhere near ideal) then it plots as a solid circle as it should.
I don't maintain the template, I just use it, so modifying the point style isn't really an option.
I have not been able to nail down when it occurs and when it doesn't.

Oct 4, 2012I can make a small subassembly that can vary it's deltaX and deltaY based on a 3d polyline (or alignment / profile) in the drawing. However the subassembly does not get put in with default perameters outside of the areas where the targets exist.
I have been trying to come up with a decision tree to tell the subasembly to use default values where there are no targets to use, but I have not been able to find the correct syntax that works for those true/false decisions. My VB language knowledge is clearly lacking.....

Nov 5, 2012I am trying to model a DOT project in a fashion that allows a corridor surface creation for not only the finished surface, but also the datum surface. This is a machine control project currently under construction. One of the DOT's typical sections includes a shoulder subassembly with a grade break in it. This particular assembly varies in width at the grade break. I would like to have the option for a target width alignment at the grade break.

Mar 5, 2014Trying to use the width tool, I ran into the following problem. I would like to have a smooth transition of the stroke width between two width points while keeping the original stroke width unchanged outside of that line segment.
There are four width points here: two end points and two in between. The original stroke width is 200. The two on the left have one side set to 100 while the two on the right have one side set to 50. I would like to eliminate the distortion of the line width occuring in the first and third line segments. The only solution that I have come up with so far is to place two additional width points very close to the two middle width points: one with a 100-unit side to the left of the second point in the picture and one with a 50-unit side to the right of the third point in the picture. Yet there will be a small distirtion in between.
AutoCAD Map 3D :: Measuring Areas In 2012?
Jul 15, 2011I've tried to measure the area of a road layout (that includes curves) and it is giving me a completely unrealistic answer (310,000m2 instead of 41,000m2). If I de-curve the lines, the area is about right, but the lines MUST remain curved for me to get the most accurate measurment. why curves aren't being measured properly, and is there a setting I can use to make sure this doesn't happen again?

Dec 8, 2011I use the "M" measure command a lot, Is there any other good ways to dimension in assembly? I often need to know the distance between the edge of a part and another based on a fixed view, which if the two edges are straight and on the same plane works ok but I need to measure the height of two parts which are on different planes or the distance between arcs and curves as these tend to always work from the centers?
I need a command that will basically fix the plane to the current view to get the required dimensions, is there anything available?
