AutoCAD Civil 3D :: Applying Description Keys To Points
Aug 10, 2012I have created a custom point import with vb.net into Civil 3D 2012. I would like to be able to apply the description keys to the points after I import.

View 6 RepliesI have a user that imported srrvey points and after getting all the points in and set up has discovered that the point over 100 have an extra 0 in between the letter identifer and the point number so instead of A100 he has A0100 , there are several hundred point descriptions to change is there a way to get rid of all the extra 0's without editing each one.
View 3 Replies View RelatedCan I apply a default style to points with a raw description not in the description key sets?
When I import survey points into the drawing my description keys will assign specifed styles (and therefore layers) to descriptions it recognises, and a default style (and layer) to ones it does not recognise.
Then if i change raw descriptions in the drawing I can "Apply description keys" and have the styles and layers change based on the changes I made to the raw description. This is fine for descriptions in the key set.
Can I get Civil3D to apply the default style to points that did have a description that is in the DKS but has now been changed to one that is not? As it works for me now, these points remain unchanged in there layer and style.

I want my survey symbols to come in on their own layers, separate from the point label. Lets use UPOL as an example: I have a point style UPOL*. It has assigned to it a block representing the utility pole. The size is set to drawing units, and sized to .1 inches.
The marker is on layer: V-NODE-POLE-SYMB
The label is on layer: V-NODE-POLE
The description key is as follows. UPOL*
Style: UPOL*
Point Label Style: Standard
Layer: V-NODE-POLE-SYMB
No other parameters have been choosen; scale parameter, fixed scale, or use drawing scale.
Have I done this correctly, to accomplish my task? I also noticed that I cannot turn the point label off by picking it. I have to turn the layer off in the layer manager.Should I use the description keys to scale the symbol, instead of the point style?
For some reason in my base template for field work the "Disable Description Keys" option in Points Creation is set to "true"
How can make this default to "False" in my template. I've tried changing it and then saving the template again but it reverts to true all of the time. I have to select my points and do apply desc keys whenever I import points.
Civil 3D Newbie here.
I am making a directory full of the blocks we will use for the description key file to use. My understanding is that all of these blocks (manholes, hydrants, trees...etc) should be on layer "0" and of standard size. Manholes should be about 3' in diameter, transformer pads around 4' square....etc. Essentially, 1 = 1 true scale.
Is this true?
I currently use Leica Viva Smartworks for surveying and it captures the linework codes in its own field, so when I export my CSV file my Descrition comes on with the feature code but the linework code is another field. Is their a way that using the Format field in the description Key that I can get the Full description field to read something like "V-DOMW-PIPE B", which would pull the feature code from the raw descrition field and the begin line code from the Linework field.
View 5 Replies View RelatedCreating a format to keep a number following a code.
My code is BCCD#
My format is DFL CC $+
My result now is:
Raw Desc. BCCD1 B (Bottom of Concrete Ditch)
Full Desc. DFL B CC (Ditch Flow Line and Type)
I am attempting to create a key that will create the following full description from the raw description:
Raw Desc. BCCD1 B (Bottom of Concrete Ditch)
Full Desc. DFL1 CC B (Ditch Flow Line and Type)
The reason that I need to change the description is to comply with certain standard codes from an outside entity but I do not wish to change the filed coding that we use in house. I cannot seem to find a parameter that would allow me to keep the number behind the DFL descriptor
I am hoping to bring my spot shots labels in at a 45 degree angle. I have created this Desc Key Set. For some reason the points are still coming in like this.
I double checked my label style, it is set to object. I double checked the properties where it shows rotation it says property not set. I also tried to use the rotation set to parameter 1 and assigned the point a parameter 1 at 45 D with no success.
I am trying to set up our templete and I am having issues. I have set up description keys and such. When I import our survey data all comes in (ie blocks and linework). The problem is when I try to plot the block that are inserted on what appears to be the correct layer they do not plot out. When I freeze the point layer the block disappears as well. What setting am I missing that will create the blocks according to the description key and keep them on a separate layer like it did in Land Desktop but keep them dynamic? I am not sure if the subscription service covers.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI was told that once I set up a description key that I could copy it to save time, especially on DS Keys that have blocks associated with them. Unfortunately this isn't working.
I tried copying the basic DS Key - SWMH* (I right clicked the SWMH* (code) to make a copy of it. I renamed it and, used a different block, changed the layers to zero and saved it as SSMH. I saved it, then it proceeded to change all the characteristics of the SWMH to match the SSMH.
Is there some setting that I'm missing? Is there some parent/child association that I'm missing? I know that I can proceed to create each DS key from scratch but prefer not to.
How would I create a Point Table that would allow me to have Point#, Type, Size in individual columns when I have decription keys that area like this;
GUM 6 to be a 6" GUM.
Is there any way to have the data for the Type in one colum and the size in another?

In an effort to firm up my understanding of how styles, point groups, description keys and layers collide, I followed the recommendations of an article. How groups/deskeys function together for layer visibility.
This process of Layer visibility that is supposed to make the program flexible makes it almost impossibly complicated.

How to set a default point description to match the point number. I need to match the point number and the point description as per below:
Point # = 1 - Description = 1Point # = 2 - Description = 2Point # = 3 - Description = 3and so on.
Is there a quick way to add this description once the points are already created?
Also, it seem I can't make the default style and label to work. I edited the Feature Setting on the Setting tab of the Toolspace and I made sure there's no child override. When I open the point creation menu, my default styles are there (grayed out), but when I create the points, they pick up another style and another label style.
I am building a new template for our office and just finished building my Description Key Code Set, and Figure Prefix Database. I stopped to do a quick trial run on one of our surveying files, but when I imported the file all of the figure lines imported correctly but the points all came in the default point style and label style. I went to the Settings Tab/Points/Commands and made sure my "Disable Description Keys" was set to False. This is not my first template and I have never had this issue before.

In a description key code file, I would assume that a description key code of simply * would capture all points, but it seems this code gets ignored. How do we create a key code that captures all points?
For example, if I want to take advantage of the hierarchical processing of DKC files to assign layers, point styles, label styles, etc, I can theoretically create a 'design' DKC file that makes all points, regardless of their desciptions, to be sized relatively, and then move that DKC file to the top of the DKC file list.
I know this can be accomplished through the "_all points" point group, but I want to be able to control point layers as well, and as far as I know, neither point groups, point styles, nor label styles affect the insertion layer of a point, but DKC files do.
I am trying to find a way to offset points along an alignment showing station, offset and description. This is for a plan and profile sheet see attached example clouded in red.

View 7 Replies View Relatedwe are updating fron LDD 2004 to Civil 3D 2012 needles to say it a huge change. I've got my template almost done I'm just having one problem. With LDD any point that came in with a raw descripitoin not within the description key it would be placed in the current layer with point number, descripton and elevation. How do I make that happen with Civil3D do I have to change my default lable settings? When I import points with a raw description not within my description key it places the point on Layer 0 and only shows the node no point number.

I have a large surface (over 1.5 million points and 20 000hectares)
I need to get a point file .csv from the TIN to be able to use it in another program.
-so i've extracted the points from my surface, but they are Autocad points.
-next step is to convert them to civil 3d points.
-I can not select them all when converting them or my computer crashes.
-so i select about 25 000 at a time, the converting takes roughly 10 minutes.
and i have over 1.5 million points to do.
how can i speed this up.
will more ram useful?
I have recieved a file with many points and would like to convert them into COGO points in Civil 3D. The problem is; I would like to keep the hole ID's as I convert, I've made a few conversions and lose the hole ID every time (not showing in Name or Description). Is there a seting I am missing to keep these? My aim to to organize the COGO points in different point groups.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a project that was started by leaving all the survey data inside the "All Points" group. So, I'm concerned that when I enter my as built survey points, that even if I put them into their own group, that the original surface will still look at them and just rebuild to my asbuilt data, effectively cancel out the purpose of the asbuilt survey. Will this happen?
I want to take the original points and put them into a group of their own, but I don't know if that will affect anything or not? I have several wetlands already designed on that surface with volume calcs already done too.
What should I do?
Is there a way to add descriptions to DS project folders after the fact?
