AutoCAD Architecture :: Add On To Use Architectural Functionality

View 1 Repliesjust got my boss to agree today to use cad's dimensions instead of the way he's always done it... which is dimensioning everything (everything!) by hand. Clearly that's just nonsense. But what is important is that I make sure these new autocad dimensions look exactly like the ones we do by hand.
I think I've pretty much got the basics down, I just have one major problem: tick orientation. When doing horizontal dimensions, the ticks run from bottom left to upper right. When doing vertical dimensions, they flip. This would drive my boss nuts... to the extent that I doubt I could get him to buy into this if I can't figure out how to keep the ticks running in the same direction.
I understand I could just dimension with no ticks whatsoever, and then just go copy them in by hand, but that reeks of the old, laborious way of dimensioning... and it really seems like there should be an easy answer to always keeping the ticks running the same way.
I have a file that the architectural tick marks are not solid. They are an outline of a rectangle.
fillmode =1
shademode = 2dwireframe
options/display = solid fill is checked.
I am on ACA2011. It does not matter if I am in model or a viewport. It is the same.
I have another file open and that dim ticks are filled.
I have imported the dim string into the one that does not work and still nothing.
I have recently started using Architect 2012. We use Architectural Tick for dimensioning.
The problem is the Architectural Tick arrow is not coming in at the proper scale (Arrow head size = 3/32", dimscale varies). The arrow head seems to be out by a scale factor of 25.4 (found by trial and error).
If so is there a software patch or workaround. Can the Architectural Tick block be edited and if so where is it?
(using Windows 7 - 64bit)
How do you add room ID's on architectural drawings?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI've just started working for an architect and downloaded AutoCad LT 2013 today...is there some sort of menu where I can get basic door, window, etc. blocks? Or are these things I need to create myself?...I see the "tool palettes" box but it seems to have a random selection of stuff labeled "Imperial Samples" leading me to believe there might be other stuff elsewhere.

I am working in inches so I set my dimension units to Architectural. When I am dimensioning a distance that is twelve inches I would like the dimension to read 12" not 1'. I would like to set up the dimension style to report this dimension automatically without editing the text manually to change 1' to 12". Is there a way to set this up through the dimension style?
View 9 Replies View RelatedI'm having problems to transform an architectural drawings done in 2D to 3D, and also when it comes to confirm and locate their respective courts.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI received a drawing from a client where the architectural ticks display very large. The leader arrow shows as the correct size but the dimension tick does not. I went into the dimension style manager (dimstyle) and everything seems to be in order. The tick size is set up to be 1/16". I tried to dredge up out of my memory the autocad variables that mess with the size of the archtectural ticks like "dimasz" and "dimblk", but with no luck.
Currently using Autocad 2013.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have an old dwg that I used to add new data to. I also inserted a block produced by Revit to get a building elevation. I am not sure when or how it happend, but my drawing scale units are stuck on arch. I am talking about the bottom right hand corner of the screen on the status bar where there is the spot to set drawing scale. When I open by clikcing the arrow all the scales are in architectural units. I can add a custom scale of 1"=100', but it does not otherwise appear in the list. I wasn't going to wrry about it, but when I layout a plan/pro series they do not seem to be scaling correctly (and I cannot find a place to specify what scale I want the views to be at). UNITS, -DWGUNITS & -AECDWGUNITS don't fix it, they are all set to decimal, etc. Using the seetings tab to change the drawing settings, everything is set to feet, there is no place to specify arch units, the 100 scale drawing is shown as a custom scale.
This is C3D release 2012, on a 64bit Win7 Pro machine, everything is up to date.
Where I can change the units for the drawing scale?
C3D 2012 on 64bit Win 7 all up to date

I have to add dimensions to an architectural drawing in model space
The file is drawn in decimal units (1unit=1meter)
Now I have been asked to ad dimensions in feet and inches to the drawing in order to make it usable to UK
I know that the solution is to use alternate units with Architectural units format, but how mach is the multiplier that I have to use?
I have no experience in British metric system.
So I left the multiplier 25.4 as AutoCAD prompt.
2.81 meters equals to 5'-11 1/4” ?
I’m using AutoCAD 2007
I am working on an architectural drawing and for some reason when I try to "objectscale" the annotation to the same scale as the view port I am using, it doesn't appear or if it does it is a lot smaller scale than I requested.

Looking at the image below (the blue box is just to represent the relationship between the pipes):
I want to, as a simple example, rotate the UCS around the Z-axis from the end of one pipe to the end of the other. In 2011 UCS, Z would allow me to select the end of one pipe and the end of the other and rotate to the angle of the red line shown.
In 2014 UCS, Z rotates the UCS from some unrelated point.
In 2014 UCS then selecting the two ends rotates the UCS X-axis to the direct line between the two.
In a working scenario the end of the two pipes would be in vastly different positions. Drawing a line between them, flattening it then using UCS, E on the flattened line give the functionality I want, but is a very slow way of doing it.
In 2011 if I wanted to rotate the UCS around the Z-axis I would type UCS, Z then select 2 points and the UCS would rotate around the Z-axis but the X & Y axis would remain as it was. This is no longer the case in 2014, how do I do this now?
I can get the leading zeros in the architectural dim style. My problem is I cant seem to get the leading zero in the parts list format. If I edit the parts list, then format column, there is no option to include leading zeros like in the dim styles.
We could format the parts list with the leading zero before....This is in 2013, BTW..
I have a parameter length that is currently in inches and I would like to use it to populate the description but I would like it to be displayed in Architectural style (i.e. 12’-3”). I would also like to have it round up to the nearest 3”.

I need to edit properties for 4000 features. For this task I use FDO Toolbox Data Update comand and it is done in no time. How it can be done in AutoCAD MAP?
I know I can copy data in Data Table or edit in Properties Pane but these methods do not work (applications does not respond) for more than a few hundred features.
Editing a few thousand features is common task in GIS?
I have the following (somewhat philosophical) question: what is the concept of assembly sketches? As far as I can see (and what I use it for) is the following: an element of my design can be constructed from several parts, which are first machined with some margins, interfaces for welding, etc. Then they are mounted/welded/brazed together, and the final piece is constructed by post-machining the mounted (welded/brased/etc) assembly. Assembly sketches drive these features.
When I first got in contact with assembly sketches, I believed they can be used to positioning parts in the assembly: create a sketch, very easily and quickly draw lines/points/etc which serve as anchor points for the parts, and then constrain the parts to these lines/points/etc. But this does not work - whereas I would find it sometimes useful.
How to duplicate the functionality of pressing the F2 button in .NET? I have several commands that write a fair bit of data to the command line, including one that lists individual segments of civil 3d objects and I would like to make the command line appear in a similar fashion to the list command.

View 9 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to have the AutoCAD "Quick Properties" pop up functionality be transferred over after the dwg is converted into pdf or dwf?
I want to avoid clutter in the dwg file but would like to have an ability for my field crew to either hover over or click the blocks or AutoCAD objects in the pdf file to know the block attributes or properties of objects.
The desire is to have a functionality very similar to creating yellow sticky notes in Adobe Acrobat Professional where the sticky balloons or call outs can collapse or even disappear if you do not want to see them.
Using the export to DEM functionality for surfaces?
My understanding is that it is supposed to use USGS dem format, but I'm having trouble getting the resulting dem to show up intact in ArcGis. The extents are off and it chopped off the northern half of the site...?
I think this is a Coordinate System issue, but can't figure out where I can change anything...
